December in Chicago - New Year's Jam

Whoa! I just caught up on everything.

First off, sorry if I upset anybody. I didn't mean to belittle the Rochester Jam by calling it a backup - that was my honest opininon when I first heard of it,

When I read that Chilly Philly had been cancelled, I saw this as a great opportunity to bring the Northeast Shred Scene together in Rochester.

This statement (along with the fact that it was the first time it was being held) sounds like "Alternative to Chilly Philly" to me. Alternative doesn't mean backup or less-than, so sorry. And even if I still considered it as second rate, I should have kept it to myself.

I don't think that Chicago would have had more people come if no other jams were happening; I think 0-4 more people would have come if anything - this year that is.

It's also being stated that, "yeah, Rochester was great, good job and all, but it would have been nicer if everyone could have been together, so please don't schedule your event next year in such a way that it will again prevent everyone from being together."

Sorry again if I gave you guys this impression. I don't think Rochester prevented everyone from being together in chicago - not at all. As I said b4 - not many more people would have come this year; I'm again thinking about the future. Sorry if I made Rochester out to be the bad guy who ruined what would've been the everyone-together-jam-extravaganza.

Why should event planners as far away as Rochester, with a group of completely different potential attendees, plan around your event?

This is a very good point. There are plenty of people that couldn't or wouldn't go to chicago, and I'm glad they went to a great event instead. However, I think that the group of potential attendees are not completely different (at least in the future).

Scheduling

Chicago needs some love, everywhere else has had big events like sjff,css, chilly philly

This is what I hope for.

..there are limited slots of time in which a successful event can take place, and new years is one of the big ones. So there will always be conflict between events at this time of year because everyone is off work/school at the same moment and want to be able to use it to get together with everyone else. The only way to avoid this is to have only one place to be at that time...The Rochester Jam could grow into a monster of an event considering the turn out on its first year, and more power to it if it does.

People have to decide where to go. I know Chicago's NYJ is great, and I'm not worried about competition much. Like I said above, I want Chicago's NYJ to be "the place to be" every New Year, like the other big name events.

I honestly didn't fret much over the Rochester jam cause I felt like they have potential attendees that won't come here for sure, and that's awesome for them. Some people mentioned to me, "that competition kinda sucks," but I didn't see any big deal. I suppose I'd slightly take it as a slap in the face if someone was trying to compete with our event knowing that we've had it for years, and now have an opportunity (sans Chilly Philly) to head toward our goal of making it the must attend New Year event.

Even if there was or will be other New Year jams that compete with us, I may feel frustrated, but I wouldn't or shouldn't expect them to plan around us (though I may hope for it). Competition is fine - capitalism reigns, and all you can do is have the best event you can, and hope you achieve your goals.

I hate that this all turned so ugly. I wish that the positivity for both events wasn't tainted. I wasn't thinking about other jams that much, but I suppose the random joke posts, and my thoughtless post are to blame. I'm going to edit my previous post after this. Hopefully, I've cleared up any misunderstandings on my part. I dunno if that will make people feel better, but feel free to PM me if anything.

Dat, your pictures are the bomb. I'm surprised and very happy at how many you have. Post the link up here...if you like, or maybe wait for all argument to be over, so people to have to look for it within.

i got lazy and didn't rotate some of them the right way.....i'll leave that up to those that are really saving them to do.

you may notice a lot of pictures of the wv crew, welllll thats because lisa is a good friend of mine and we hung out most of the time with her. she got a few in of others though, so enjoy!

So I figured out how we could all go to the same tournament. Everyone must move to Californ I A. Emily and Mike and Chad and Chris and some other peeps are already there, she can give us the word on places to live. We could all live in the same hood and take over! We'd be able to get a ton more people to come to events too cuz we'd know everyone in that town. It'd be a HUGE scene!

re-reading what i put before, sorry if i sounded like a jackass. I just like everyone i know to be at the same jam. i read the rochester thread and a lot of people seem to really enjoy it. so i apologize.

thanks to everyone who came the event and made it happen, i know that this event motiviated me to play harder and more often than i ever have and its already paying off.

last time i was at this event (2 years ago) i came home really not wanting to play because i was bad compared to everyone else, even though im still no johnny or jorden its nice to see how i have progressed.

so many people were so nice at this event and helped me push my game, telling me to try new tricks and new combos
