Set control
Set control
/joy.
I can do legover, atw and pixie consistantly and occasionally mirage on strongside, yet whenever I try something flipside, I keep screwing up.
I know. You're going to say that I need to school it on both sides and that it's difficult and needs to be done, etc. I understand that much, but I have figured out that the reason that I keep fucking up flipside is because my left leg can't set for shit. Actually...it can. But it is EXTREMELY unreliable and hard to place where the bag is going to go. Another interesting thing is that I can throw the bag up maybe 3-4 meters with my right foot. I can't do half of that with my left.
It just doesn't feel right when I set from left. How would I get more control via setting from left?
Suggestions?

Support leg? My support leg does nothing while I set. At least while I'm not trying to do a hop which I still can't do rhythmically.

Along the same lines as Tony said, you have a great tool at your disposal: the fact that you have two legs. If you can do something well on one side and not as well on the other, look at the two motions and see what's wrong. Only too recently have I discovered the power in that.

mikhal you should come out and play with the NYFA if you live in brooklyn. We normally meet Saturdays during the winter at a dance studio near Union Square (manhattan). There is no better way to learn footbag than from someone else who knows what they're doing. If you are interested I think we are kicking from 6-8pm this coming Saturday. PM me for more details or have a look at nyfootbag on yahoo groups. Good luck with those flipside sets.

There'll be some kicking on Thursday at Dick Shea's at 6-8 pm, I think. I'll be there.

A lot of the confidence in your flipside comes from how comfortable you are using your flip support leg. If your right toe is stronger, practice standing on your right leg. Focus on moving your weight onto that leg.
You could also work on what proportion you set by raising your toe and by pushing against the ground with your support leg. The less you jump off the ground the quicker you can get your set foot back on the ground to do the rest of the move.
