Choosing an LCD monitor help.

Post by Sergey »

Hey guys, my ex-girlfriend is asking me to help her choose a good LCD monitor and I was wondering which ones you'd recommend and it would be great if you could provide links where I can check them out and probably read a review.

Thanks alot in advance,

Sergey.

Depends what you(she) want exactly.

Size of the monitor is directly proportional to price.
High contrast ratio is a plus. Something on the order of 500:1 is basic by now (I think...). Something in the order of 700-800:1 would cost much more in general.
Response time is not important unless she plans to be doing gaming, so don't bother with that.

Other than that, only extra things like cup holders, stereo speakers, and cigarette lighters will increase the price. I've yet to see the last one in a monitor though. >_>

I'm actually a ViewSonic sorta guy. Have had only one or two monitors back in the day that weren't ViewSonic and I've never had problems with the ones that were, so I can say that their stuff is good...Still solid research beats anything else.

Ya if you don't want games make sure you don't pay extra for a good response time. Greater than 12ms response time should be good if you don't want gaming.

Mookay. More info you may like to use.

If you are in North America, then look on {H}ardForum.com in the {H}otdeals section. The guys on that forum are really good at finding really really good deals. Generally the stuff they find is reliable and usually dirt cheap.

Also, check NewEgg.com. They have good prices...great ONE-DAY SALES...and post a nice consensus of reviews. So far have built one computer will all parts with exception of case(too much shipping $$$) and RAM from there. Along with small things here and there such as hard drives, KVM switch, various network equipment and cabling (good luck finding 50 meters of Cat6 cabling anywhere local). Only had to RMA anything once.

Generally, it is the reseller standard that one dead pixel or less is a good monitor. Two dead pixels in a monitor you ordered is RMAable. Anything more definitely has to be RMAd. I've gotten a Fujitsu 17-inch monitor from them around 6 months ago...which still has no dead pixels. So they are reliable.

In general, a 17-inch under $200 is an awesome deal, but check the reviews first.

And if you are in Russia, then enjoy the international shipping rates...or get one from a local shop. Just make sure it has no more than one dead pixel.[/url]
