Wall Cutting Tutorial??

Post by Skippy! »

I checked the sticky up at the top to see if there was anything, and there wasn't!! I suppose I should search to see if there are any, but if anybody can post one here, that'd be cool too. Wuaaahsf!

EDIT: I meant for cutting toe walls...in case...I wasn't....clear about that...

Are there many shredders who're cutting the wall out? Is that a good thing?

In north america I would say that over 50% of players have cut off their sidewalls.

Just cut off the bottom 2 eyelets and lace ur shoes like normal, if u want a really deep toe stall cut off the bottom 3 (6). Taking the top layer of canvas off of the toe will help with control.

IN all seriousness, can somebody explain to me how anyone could follow and learn shred, without being able to figure out how to cut the walls off their shoe ?

It just seems like an obvious thing.

use a razor blade w/ a triangular edge... i leave a very thin leather edge remaining to keep my shoes from falling apart

I didnt want to cut the hole wall off so I just cut off close to half until I have better control, I would say it's probably smarter to cut half way first to see if you like it, that is if you havent done it before

For Lavers, it's two eyelets. For Gs, it's only one. And for Climas... well, it's not really needed! :)

And if you ask me about the whole pixie/fairy arguments about cutting off toe walls, it's an illusion (not the move ). You can do proper pixies/fairies even with the walls on - it's just timing and the convention of your set. If you can't do pixies or fairies with the walls on then there's something wrong with your set basically. Really, the whole point in cutting off walls IMO is comfort issues when wearing the shoe.

For my Gs I cut off the toe walls because I cut off a layer of the tongue and it felt kinda of weird to have toe walls on. Lacing it felt awkward, and didn't feel as snug as with the same lacing methods I would have for my Lavers. Really, it felt like there was a gap when opening the walls for my Gs, and thus cutting them off to expose a decent toe AND having a pretty snug fit for me. At least that's what I felt on the issue. :?

I did not cut them but I am thinking about it.
How many of you have cut the inner layer of their lavers at the toe?

I cut the inner canvas of the toe for my Lavers, and they worked out pretty well I guess. However, now when I got used to making crisper sets I think cutting out the canvas at the toe hinders it somewhat. I don't know - it just feels kind of weird to play in when the mesh gets pretty broken in and flexible that there's no additional support to resist the impact of toe sets now. Either that or the inner lining of Gs have a pretty thicker variation compared to the Laver's mesh.

okey, so we're talking about the inner-toe-wall? Cause there's the other toewall ("Toe-shovel")
some people cut them away. I think that's unnecessary.

Two reasons why you should cut off toe walls:

- Looks and feels better
- It forces you to do better toe delays.

and if you're a noob:

- it helps pixie sets.

thats all.

Sorry. I'm still pretty new to footbag, I've only shredded with someone who cut their toe walls once. I haven't gotten a really good look at shoes with the walls cut off. I think you can understand why I'd be reluctant to be doing heavy surgery on my shoes without knowing what/where exactly to cut, potentially destroying them. I just figured I'd ask to see what people had to say!

Don't worry Dan, I never considered cutting of any walls neither with my Lavers nor with the G's and my Pixie set is quite good though. I have an idea how you can experiance how it feels without the walls but cutting them off. Just tie you Lavers again how a normal shoe is tied, so that the walls are folded in. Yves Kreil has his Lavers that way and he is one of the very best players in the world :) And tell us how it worked for you.

I like that suggestion, Max. I'll try it out tonight and let ya know.

EDIT: Tried it just now at work. It's alright, however, I don't think I can do it yet. I feel like I need more toe area. I'm sure if I skoooooled with that lacing I could do it eventually. But I'm gonna do what's comfortable for now. I like that idea though. My shoes have holes already and I don't feel like cutting em up anymore. Maybe, but I dunno....arrggrh!!!

EDIT EDIT: Weird ramble.

As much as I dont like disagreeing, cutting toe walls makes your shoe VERY different - performance wise - to how lavers come from the factory. They are not the same.

I cbf going into details about why its different but lets just say you have to try it to understand :P

It's good to experiment, Dan. Not that I'm saying your should murder your shoes or anything, but having evidence for an open mind is cool. :P

And yeah Oliver, of course it's a bit different. The shoes feel a bit more constricted and the toe area looks to be a bit more exposed than having the walls on. Both elements definitely affect a person's gameplay, however the latter is more on perspective then technical dribble if you ask me.
