Blacken lavers

Hi,

I have to blacken my lavers because they are looking like shit and that is not good. It would be cool to make them black or blue.

What things I have to pay attention too because I do not want to stiff the fabric or destroy the shoe completely.

Use a sharpie and just take your time, I am of course assuming that you have sharpies in germany. Any perminant black marker will do.

I have read that using a sharpie on Lavers is not permanent (would fade and rub off some of the ink onto your footbags) and that eventually the shoes look really bad. Is this true?

I know little to nothing about dye..but couldn't you just soak them in a tub of dye? I feel if you did a little research it would work perfectly.

It might stiffen the material on Lavers, Dave, and could make the glue run or something? Not to sure about that.

dying shoes would have little or no reason tocause stiffness... if you wanted, dye them black once twice or even thrice to have midnight black shoes... also, theyd be a color no one else has.... dye is not supposed to affect the feel of a shirt, so why would it to shoes... im gonna dye some lavers yello when i get em....

Anyways, I dyed my lavers with a black permanent marker and I can assure you it will not ruin your lavers.

The only problem I had for fist two weeks is that my white socks got somewhat black...but that's not a big deal, is it? Playing barefoot might help if you don't want your socks to get black.

Hey anyone actually dye there lavers with a tup o' water and dye. I was thinking it would look pretty sweet to dye the white and green lavers black. To make black and green. But glue running is not cool, nor is stiffening of the fabric. if you tried it and it works I would like to know

Sharpie doesn't rub off on footbags as long as it's dried onto your shoes for a while. I colored mine green and it didn't make my bag green or anything. It does fade after a while, though, which is a bitch.

I "painted" dye onto my lavers . . . that way it didn't wreck anything else on the shoe. I was too chicken to just dump the shoe in a pail of dye.

I tried the old bucket of dye trick on my lavers today, and things didn't go as planned. I was expecting the mesh to soak up the black Rit dye and I figured the leather would be fine - WRONG! The mesh rejected the dye and all the leather and plastic on the shoe got tinted in a shade of light purple.

(Although I must admit, the new dark green leather looks great.)

Thankfully, I was able to come up w/ some pretty sweet shoes after a few hours w/ the sharpe

(note, the mesh is actually a silver-ish grey which makes these shoes look that much sweeter

Don't use sharpies, or dye. Use an airbrush and paint them that way! It works really well on laver's, I've painted mine black and only parts of the outside sole are scraping off because of accidental scraping on the ground during play.

Sharpies = old
Dye = never works right

Airbrush = greatness

I am the biggest advocate for sharpies and then a clearcoat spray. They should selll clearcoat at most arts and craft stores. Krylon makes the best product. I like Krylon Crystal Clear or Krylon Make It Last in Clear. The Krylon takes care of the fading and it fades a bunch slower than if you only sharpied your shoes. My Lavers are still covered in drawings and they are still quite sharp.

I don't know about everyone else but on my first pair of lavers I did a acrylic paint but just thinned it out with nail polish remover. it's works! You just have to make sure that you test the amount of paint to the amount of nail polish remover, I would suggest combining it in a cup or something and then appling it to a piece of card board or something like that, just make sure you don't have a glitterly look to the paint and thats when you have the correct amount of paint to nail polish remover applied. I haven't had problems with this method of doing it. I can feel the bag great and I've had those pair of lavers for a good year now and the paint is just starting to fade(7 months of that year I've been playing almost everyday!).

I think a lot of acrylic paint is water soluble (check the label) and so you might get the same results without messing with anything as unpleasant as acetone.
