It's worse for someone with asthma maybe, but I doubt you could produce an argument saying it's any worse than the toxic shit poluting the air.
Your analogy sucks by the way. If someones smoking by you go away. If it starts to pour down rain you don't stand there talking about how miserable you are, you get yourself out of the situation. Stop trying to trample my rights.

Well gee, it must just be me, but the air doesn't smell disgusting to me, it doesn't make me cough, and you can't see it either. Tobacco smoke is JUST like the air you are so right. Even if you are right that the air is just as bad as tobacco (which I highly doubt unless you're surrounded by factories), I really DON'T enjoy breathing in second hand smoke, especially when it's WORSE than what YOU'RE breathing in because YOU have a filter.
Please don't invade MY personal right to not breath in ANY tobacco smoke at all. Do I think one smoke will kill me? Heck no. Am I going to have one anyway? HECK no! Sure maybe walking down the street doesn't have much effect, but I know I personally hold my breath if I walk past someone smoking, it's just disgusting. What about in a pub or a club? The air is disgusting, and non-smokers who actually care for their body shouldn't be expected to leave so smokers can enjoy their 'rights' to kill their body in public.
edit: what, you don't fart on strangers in the street...? uhhh....

To: That's a completely unfounded and ridiculous statement. How could you possibly purposefully actually write that? If cigerette smoke wasn't bad for you, people wouldn't be getting lung cancer from it

I wouldn't say stupid. Just rude and inconsiderate. Although whatshisname does have a point: there are others that are messing up our air and needlessly poisoning us. But if others put toxic chemicals in the air, I don't understand how one can use that to justify their own pollution.
If you're smoking, and I dont like it, then you have to get away from me.
and I dont like it.
I smoke weed sometimes, but at least I look around and make sure that nobody has to unwillingly put up with the consequences, and I adjust my behavior accordingly.

Yeah. but if this topic were about pot, it would have been locked or otherwise denouncedbigdirtyfoot wrote:I feel like this is one of the most ridiculous and hypocritical topics I've read on modified, considering some of the people-above-me's opinions on other drugs, including OTHER SMOKEABLE drugs.
The two are completely parallel. Except for the "legality" aspect. But screw that. It's wrong in every way. We might as well look at every legitimate argument in this thread and apply it to pot. THAT'S the only way to be non-hypocritical, not the other way around.
I broke my new years resolution yesterday and smoked
It's so hard to resist it in a bar when people sitting in your table are smoking.
New law here in Finland will order smokers to have their own smoking rooms in bars and restaurants. I think the law takes place in summer 2007.
Second hand smoking gives bad hangovers, even if you don't drink much. All you have to do is to sit in a club for a couple of hours and voilá - head ache!
Mostly that's why I appreciate the new law.
I think they have the system in use in Norway already.

Some thoughts about this tomacco.
I dislike it.
I can't understand why someone wants to do that.
Especially I can't understand why the others have to cross the street just because someone smokes.
"Because someone else smokes/pollutes/does something, I should have a right to do that too" is one of the most childish arguments I've ever heard, and I hear it often.

I suppose you'll say the same thing to the kid who called me stupid below? Doubtful. Stop being a hypocrit, and get off my dick.Bainbridge: not that it's your goal, but I bet you would be a lot more persuasive if you weren't so rude to everybody in this thread.
And Ken, you're right, my goal isn't to be persuasive. C'mon, I know you're not an idiot, you know that no ones opinions are really changed by arguing on the internet. My only goal here is to make all you identically opinionated fools on modified question your own opinions. Also, I'll reiterate. I don't care if I'm rude. Get off my dick. My rudeness doesn't impair my ability to argue.
Holy shit you must be thick, kid. Go back and tell me where I said cigarette smoke is "just like the air". Oh wait you can't. In fact, it seems you missed my entire point, where I said second hand smoke is arguably less bad for you than the shit giant corporations are putting into our air streams. Whether it is worse or not is irrelevent, because the point stands that you have no precedent to complain about the stuff your breathing in, and the government has no precent to make a law saying I can't smoke on the streets, when walking down the streets and breathing normally is bad for my body too.Well gee, it must just be me, but the air doesn't smell disgusting to me, it doesn't make me cough, and you can't see it either. So basically what you're saying is that you're bitching and moaning for no good reason?Sure maybe walking down the street doesn't have much effect
Personally, I find you hideously unattractive. The sight of you makes me wrench, and I wonder how ugly the guy your mom screwed was to make you turn out so vilely disgusting (To use your own word). Still, I'm not bitching and whining to try to get you locked up in a cellar somewhere just because you gross me out. I man up and take the grossness and don't let it bother me.I personally hold my breath if I walk past someone smoking, it's just disgusting
Really though, I go to school in Seattle everyday up in a weird part of town, and am forced to step over drunks passed out on the side walks and side step piles of shit that bums took the night before. Do I like it? Not really. But am I out their advocating for the police to harass bums and kick them out of the streets and such? Hell no. I man up and deal with the bum shit just as I deal with your unattractive self.
This is what's funny to me about how all the mod's seem to gang on me, while I'm the one who actually backs up my rudeness with intelligent discussion, while kids like Vindicator just spout mindless bullshit. I was going to ask you to elaborate Vind, but I realize now that that would probably be a mistake. I wonder if you're as ugly as James. You're stupid
Oh my. What a great humanitarian you are! Your mother must be proud.I smoke weed sometimes, but at least I look around and make sure that nobody has to unwillingly put up with the consequences, and I adjust my behavior accordingly.
Whatever though, good for you. You're so considerate to people you don't know, and who have no bearing on your life. The only people worth caring about are your friends and family. You can continue to "adjust your behavior" like a good little Socialist, but that still doesn't mean I have to.
Actually it's called "precedent"."Because someone else smokes/pollutes/does something, I should have a right to do that too" is one of the most childish arguments I've ever heard, and I hear it often.
STOP TRAMPLING MY RIGHTS YOU UNATTRACTIVE PINKOS.

On Topic:
I have smoked at parties and such but I dont do it anymore.
My grandpas got the scariest cough ever because of smoking and when I was little i could not talk to him because I knew if i made him laugh he would cough and I would think he was a discusting monster. I dont want my grandkids to look at me that way!
Off Topic:
I cant see what the point you have in making such a post you piss so many people off! On modified we have a great community and i dont like people that ruining that just because they are bored.
Sorry about my english.

If you rude language doesn't affect your abillity to discuss on the internet? When people are busy being insulted or annoyed (because of rudeness) they are less likely to question their opinions on the argument you're bringing up. You might be able to argue just as well while being completely rude (which I disagree with in this situation), but it does impare others' ability to respond the way you want them to. This is all kind of pointless in my opinion.BainbridgeShred wrote:My only goal here is to make all you identically opinionated fools on modified question your own opinions. Also, I'll reiterate. Calling the police on them is only one of many possibilities. Why don't you "man up" and find a way to help them if stepping over them is such a bother.BainbridgeShred wrote:I go to school in Seattle everyday up in a weird part of town, and am forced to step over drunks passed out on the side walks and side step piles of shit that bums took the night before. PM's aren't public, they are private, that should help explain why you don't know what the mods/admin do or don't say to people.BainbridgeShred wrote:This is what's funny to me about how all the mod's seem to gang on me.You're stupid
This whole thing feels like you felt like it was time to have a flame fest again.
I hope this can get back to the actual topic instead of just how Bainbridge feels about things.

If you don't have anything intelligent to say, don't say anything at all. Didn't your mother ever teach you that?If you rude language doesn't affect your abillity to discuss on the internet? Why do you then think a kid under 18 from Finnlands spelling does?
I cant see what the point you have in making such a post you piss so many people off! On modified we have a great community and i dont like people that ruining that just because they are bored.
It isn't a bother. Where did I say it was? I might've said I don't like it. I don't knot anyone who would. Do I care though? No. It takes about a half second out of my day. If the bum wants to get hammered and pass out on the sidewalk, I'm all for it.Calling the police on them is only one of many possibilities. Why don't you "man up" and find a way to help them if stepping over them is such a bother.
And frankly, I see no reason to want to help them. Happiness is found in satisfying one's own self. If everyone understood that, this world would be a much better place.
And really, if you care to look, I didn't start "flaming" anyone until I was called stupid. I'm not trying to get into a "He started it first", but it seems that in most o the threads I'm accused of flaming people in, it tends to not be me who fires the first shot, only me who escalates it after being insulted. Just something for all you self-righteous geniuses to ponder.
