Hehehe, I hope its not on the same weekend. Because I would definatly like to go to both. Even more so Spike and shred was one of my favorite tournies all year. I can't wait for Spike and Shred. I'm sure I will see you there! I hope you can make it Chris!

rar, i cant read a calendar. And I'd never plan a little jam at the same time as a major event... so everyone ignore everything in my last post. I'm definitely going to Spikenshred.

I'd rather have everyone come and stay here on a weekend that had no events anytime around it, and it will have to be between now and the end of May. Uhhhh, what springtime events do I need to look out for? EC, Spikenshredin, GRASS. Is that all?

Did some more fred shred today... and yesterday, too. My knee has been bothering me a bit each day, but stretching before and after sessions, and taking Ibuprofen afterwards has been helping. I've been not taking it during sessions for the past 3 or so because I don't want to fool myself into thinking it's okay. It's going well, there's some light pain, but not much.

I'm still drilling the muted spinning clippers. I lose my balance so easily on them, though. Today, after my shred, I did 30 crunches. Next time, I'll do 35, and so on. We'll see how this improves my game. I could REALLY feel it, after only 30, so I think it's going to have some nice effects.

Mid session, I had a wall running session with my friend Dan. I launched pretty far up a few times, with 2 big steps before a pushoff. Fun Fun!

I think solo shred is better for me working on only 1 or two concepts, so that's really going to help my game, but my sessions aren't very intense because I have to take so many breathers... Time for more conditioning, maybe I should get back into doing infinities... I think I maxed out at 404 over the summer, I can do more...

I'm liking college. I've met a few douchebags, but there's some really hip people around, and my roommate is really nice. i was worried about having one. I guess I'd prefer a single, but I'm not going to press the issue at this point. We get along well.

I miss shredding with my RFA crew. I look forward to the next time we can all get together. Who wants to come to Toronto with me on the 4th? or maybe it's the 3rd, check adam's thread to find out. If you can get as far as Fredonia, I'll do all the driving from there... Let me know.

Hope to see you guys sometime soon.

The event is on the third.
The question is whether people want to pre-shred the event or shred the next day.

List if shredders coming so far:
Matt Cross
Tom Mosher
Johnny Suderman
Camille Surovy (FAT)
Dan Cyr (Skippy)
Bill Hladik (FAT)
ME! (FAT)
Jordan (maaaaaybe)

Sorry for pooping in your blog guys...but you all live pretty close and are the most likely to be interested.

somewhere between 4 and 6 both sides. I think my muted spinning clipper record is 3 both sides. The knee isn't entirely better, but it's on the way. I've found some good stretches, and I'm trying to go easy on the painful stuff.

Just saw an awesome band tonight. We're going to jam together, I can't wait to play. Life is good. Also can't wait to shred tomorrow.

More fred shred today.

I skipped yesterday, my knee wasn't feeling it, and I was in super guitar mode. I must have played for 4-5 hours yesterday. I got home from class, memorized the name and pattern of all 7 diatonic modes and skooled those for a while, had lunch, played guitar more for another few hours (worked on tapping the mario bros theme), gave a guitar lesson for 2 hours or so, came home, started drinking, went out for another beer, came home and played more guitar. DAMN. Mario is going to be sweet when I get it.

Anyway, on to today.

I played for about... 100 minutes, I'd guess. I was feeling STRONG today (which reminds me, forgot my 35 crunches, I'm going to do those in a minute). I hit flip far motion, can't remember doing that before, but I probably have... I also hit another cool move that I've been trying for a while. I want to get it on film first before I tell the world I hit it in new moves... But, I busted a VERY clean feeling Nemesis today. I didn't let myself get too psyched, because I want to KNOW it's clean... so, time for more work. The problem is, I can't really try it that many times before I have to stop, it's pretty hardcore for me at this point. I guess today was a milestone, though...

Another good milestone today was my adjustments to my style on muted spinning clipper. I started really being conscious of my arms, and somehow stumbled upon a way of holding them when I delay the first clipper and pulling them in as I spin that makes the spin faster and the balance more secure. It helped my gyro mirages IMMEDIATELY... I had rooted gyro mirage off my foot so many times... but having a rooted trick off your foot is a different thing than having a non-rooted trick come off your foot...

I've only eaten an apple and some triscuits today. Triscuits are so good, they gave me lots of shred energy. i just took ibuprofen. I'm going to drink a beer, shower, eat, smoke, and go to an art opening with some friends. College is a lot of fun. I'm getting a LOT of positive feedback about my music, which is encouraging me to play and play and play... What's the opposite of a vicious cycle called? That's what I'm in. :D And, to top it all off, the stretching and regular excercise on my arm has helped SO MUCH!! it doesn't hurt when I play any more! And, I could say the exact same thing about my knee. It's not all done hurting, but the wrapping and stretching have helped so much. I'm enjoying this whole college thing.

Hope you guys in Rochester are having fun, too.

NEMSIS!!>!>!>!???!??! 8O 8O SIIICK!

I made half your bag then found a tragic flaw in some of the facile I was using so I have to start over.

Your bag will be insane though, I promise.

Having a great college experience is definitely great to hear. Stretching and treating footbag as a serious sport is something I need to really start doing and you'd definitely be the inspiration for that. Nemesis!? Damn I guess the knees ARE feeling better, huh.
Spinning muted clippers are interesting. I read you were practicing them in the above posts and was like "oh hey. . I should try those too" and you're right. They do help gyros a lot. I can do them pretty easily on my strongside spinning but flip (which is my strong gyro for some reason) was improved a lot by skooling muted. It makes rooted seem so much more controlled and slow to the mind.
I might be coming up to rochester during one of the breaks this spring to get my video camera and to just get some quality shred with everyone. KICKASS was fun but I hardly got to play with an RFA person. I'll probably IM some of you with plans as I find them out myself. It's one of THOSE jobs.

Since I wrote it, I've just been reading my Nemesis post over and over again for motivation. I woke up feeling like I wouldn't shred today, because I drank too much money last night... hmmm, I meant to write beer there, but that makes sense too... :( but my roommate just told me it's about 50 degrees outside, so I'm DEFINITELY going to suck it up, eat this banana, eat some triscuits, go to the dining hall, get coffee and cereal, stretch, and shred!!! legs feel okay today. I might have to take it slow or something, but it's going to be good...

Yah damn crazy weather... I had to work today or else I would have been outside shredding too. Although my job kicks ass, so I didn't mind too much. I have never had a job that I enjoyed as much as this one at Lytespeed. I basically build and play with computers all day, the guy I work with is awesome. Just really nice and friendly. I just wish I got paid a little more..

Props Matt to your new surge of efforts in music and footbag. Look forward to the next session.

Only played for an hour today. Nothing super special. Getting my arms figured out for spins is hard. Legs weren't feeling great today :( they were tired, but I drank a lot of coffee before I played, so I felt like I had a lot of energy, but I just couldn't perform. My shred wasn't bad, I just couldn't push new stuff very well. I represented for a lot of people, I think I met a girl who might play, she seemed cool. Some folks walked towards me singing yellow submarine, and I played right on beat to their singing... I wonder if they noticed? then they stopped and watched, it was cool. I'm getting a lot of positivity towards freestyle at this school. This car stopped in the middle of the road while I was doing smear > dimwalk > blur rpt, and then I hand caught it, noticed they'd stopped, dropped it on my foot to symp whirling swirl, caught it, and waved. :D They liked.

I had fun... not the best session ever, plus it was still kinda could outside, but it went okay.

Mario is getting better each time I play it.

Decent playing today. I didn't do much shred... hit Ripstein BSOS, Jani walker BSOS... those were cool. Didn't take too many tries for either. and the Ripsteins were CLEAN, even! how about that!!! ;) What DID take me a million tries was DATW (in) BSOS... Gah, I don't even want to think about DATW (out) bsos...

I also did lots of gyro mirages, and I'm really starting to figured out what I need to do for them to be consistent... Support toe pointed in, knees close together, set foot a bit behind me like vasek, fast straight up set to about ribcage height with a small motion, FAST spin while standing up straight... mirage. I also hit a mobius, second try :) I was REALLY psyched about that... that move is HARD for me. But if I keep drilling, I'll have it soon.

Erik O'Meara played with me today, in bad shoes :( but he got his toe stalls, and I taught him to set, hop onto his set foot while raising the other leg, then hop back onto his support leg and catch on the setting foot. Basically, a mirage without the dex, so as to teach him the rhythm of mirage. Once he's got the rhythm, he'll just have to point his knee in a little further, and the dex will happen. He came close a few times, and he was doing a great job of trying and failing and trying and failing and trying and failing, but he doesn't quite have that "eye of the tiger" yet... I KNOW if he'd went hardcore for about 5 minutes straight, he would have had it... It will come in time, though.

He's a cool kid, I've been giving him guitar lessons. He's picking it up fast, but he's going to have to do more work on his own. I gave him a list of things I'd like him to have covered before his next lesson, so maybe that will motivate him to practice, because I'm not going to give him another lesson until he's up to speed on what we've covered so far. Admittedly, it's been a lot, but he can do it. He paid me with a 6 pack of beer last time :D He sure knows how to get me to give a guitar lesson ;) I don't mind that the pay wasn't much; giving lessons is a lesson for me as well. It teaches me how to teach, and it brings me greater understanding of the things I'm explaining as well.

School is good. I did something academic today, some reading for class, and some listening work for my Music Appreciation class. The listening list is good, lots of variety, and some beautiful stuff. I'm going to bring a blank CD and burn it next time so I can listen in my room instead of having to go down to Mason Hall. Also, I can play it in my room with speakers instead of headphones. Too bad the jack on my computer into which I plug my speakers is fucked up :(

I need a job. My bank acc't is currently at $0.

No Nemesis today. But my barraging set was feeling a little more sturdy... Jani walker BSOS is going to be a regular thing for me, I think. I can hit about a billion different tricks, but so many of them don't make it into shred. I get so caught up on shuffle.

I think I will try swirling torque and swirling drifter at my next session. I haven't tried either of those tricks in a LONG time, and I've only hit swirling drifter once before. It's hard to think of that kind of thing when your main focus is "learn to spin". At least I'm making progress, and at least I'm playing a lot. At least motivation hasn't been an issue lately. I'm always confident that I'll enjoy shredding and feel good doing it. Must be that I'm smoking SO much less...

I would like to have a video out soon. I wonder if I can sign out a DV camera with my student ID or something. That would be SWEET, then I could just make it myself.

I'm PSYCHED for Toronto, doesn't anyone want to come with me?!? it's next weekend!

Your recent posts are really inspiring Matt :!: I like how detailed your decriptions of your moves are. You seem to really focus on the form of each concept, and can describe it well.

As for Toronto, IM THERE :!: ...wait, damn, im in Japan....

Thanks TJ :) Concentrating on form and understanding what it is, exactly, that you're trying to do makes hard tricks more possible, and makes the learning process go a lot faster. Concentrating on form has made my dexes deeper, my strings longer, and my hard tricks more frequent. I recommend it to everyone. Form is EVERYTHING.
