Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not totally confident in all my assertions either. It just seems to me that the show invites the viewer to read between the lines alot, which is another thing I like about it. It doesn't insult my intelligence by spelling everything out for me. On the other hand, I could be reading too much into it. Won't I feel stupid then...

As for Apollo... Frankly I don't know why they're ALL not suicidal, considering the circumstances.

Yeah, thats one reason I liked the storyline of Chief Tyrol building the brand-new Viper, the one that became the Blackbird: he needed something to live for, and thats the project he chose to get him through a tough time. Its too bad that the ship didn't last long. I mean, they just trashed it in that last episode, and its only been around for four or five episodes. I think thats kind of cool to: it served its purpose, and now its history. They're (the writers, that is, not the characters) not gonna fall back on re-using that particular Deus-Ex-Machina as a short-cut to solve every problem.

I think it's odd that I can still maintain interest in the show with all of the religious dealings going on.

Again, its one of those unexpected things that I like. I mean, I don't care about the HUMANS' religious leanings, but the fact that the MACHINES are more religious than the humans is very interesting to me. I can't remember many examples in the history of sci-fi of a race of religion-obsessed robots. Its original. Its also timely social commentary, I think, considering the western world's current problems with religious fundamentalist inspired terrorism, and the War On Terror being devided along religious lines. In any case, I believe it ties in strongly with Boomer's pregnancy. If I recall correctly, in the middle of last season somebody said (Boomer, I think) that the Cylons were not able to reproduce sexually, but that learning how to do so was one of their major goals because of some religious commandment along the lines of "be fruitful and multiply." Remember that weird set-up on "Cylon-Occupied Caprica" (I miss that little inter-title appearing in every episode of the first season) when Starbuck was captured? That was good and creepy, no?

I bought the first season + miniseries for my brother at Christmas, and have since gotten into it. Quite a good show, from what I've seen so far.

What, with the weapon? I don't know. It was beautiful, every bit of it, as usual. I can hardly think of a single episode that has let me down. Every developement is so well anticipated and planned. In any case, I've talked enough. Thank you all for indulging my geeking-out. I just needed to gush about this stuff for a little bit, and now I've gotten that out of my system (for now). I will certainly continue to watch this masterpiece of television, but I think I've already said all I needed to say. Out.

I actually meant them miraculously discovering the cure to cancer in the final seconds of the game. I thought it was a little cheap that they saved the president in such a manner. However, yes, the weapon was very well placed. The episode was by no means a let down.

So, I'll relent.

Yeah, the cancer thing was sort of bogus, but it wasn't really the point. The point is the sophistication of the Cylon machinations, that it would seem to be to the benefit of the Cylons to have Baltar become president, but, as he himself noted, he'd have no real power anyway, because he isn't really trusted by anyone, he was merely installed as Vice President as a convenience to Roslyn when she needed to keep Tom Zarrek from becoming VP, because Baltar appeared politically harmless yet popular, mostly due to his roll in the attack on the Cylon's tillium depot. Those sophisticated machinations bring him so very close to the position of power that he is uncomfortable with and then save him from that fate at the last minute. They make it seem as if he saves himself from that fate by saving the President. Of course, its all part of the Cylon plan. He might not have even found his miracle cure had Gina not smashed his face and drew blood. Oh, you think that wasn't perfectly deliberate move on her part? ("You think that's air you're breathing now? Hmm.") He didn't invent the cure for Roslyn's cancer, THEY GAVE IT TO HIM! And this was all part of a complex game that they play with his psyche, leading him to put the nuke into the hands of a Cylon spy who has integrated herself right into the leadership of a militant government opposition group, something he would never have done except under just the right pressures and circumstances.

Anyway, I meant what I said before. I realize now that I could go on and on at length about each and every episode. There is so much there in each one to go on about, and I don't want to. I needed to for a while, but not anymore. If you want, Sam, feel free to drop me a PM and we'll discuss this more in private. But I don't need to do this in public anymore
