I recently started playing a bunch of board games with my friends.
Monopoly, Clue, Risk and Scrabble are among my current favorites.

anyone else likey they board games?

Monopoly would have to one of the Greats in the board game category with Risk and Baloon Lagoon 2nd and 3rd respectively (Baloon Lagoon is a childs game but boy is it awesome)

Pictionary also warrants a mention

yeah, monopoly.
scrabble (i almost laid down 'exodus' once...but didnt have anywhere to put it

risk (if you have 50 hours to spare)
stratego (havent played in years...used to like it)
and i used to play a couple board games that were like...long questing goblin and warrior type games that were pretty fun

Ooh. You badly need to play Carcassonne. I can't describe it. You make cities and stuff. And there's a lot of strategy. And you can play the whole host of Rio Grande games at BrettSpielWelt.de(Boardgame world in German) for free.

Understanding German is a plus, but not necessary as they have an english help site up at http://www.brettspielwelt.info.

These people definitely make the most unique board games ever. If you go to any gaming/RPing/MtG/etc type stores (Like Neutral Ground in NYC), you are bound to find at least some of the board games being sold there made by this company.

EDIT: Apparently they now have the german site in Engrish too. Just click the British flag. I still use the german interface for the nostalgia aspect...since when I came upon it, they had few English-speaking players and thus no Engrish website.

Because I teach "speech" in public schools, I get to play a lot of board games and games in general.

My current favorites are Connect 4, Chutes and Ladders, and Checkers, not so much Sorry, although the kids all love that one.

I'm going to purchase Perfection soon.

Connect Four was all the rage in grade 3. I love it.
I also like Settlers a lot. My brother got all the expansions and StarFarers for his birthday; fun times!

We used to have this sweet game called "Dynamite". It was one of those games where you just go around the board in a circle and have to get all the way back to where you started. The playing area is an elevated border around the board, made of seperate plastic pieces resembling rope bridges in the jungle (with pictures of different kinds of monsters below!). You roll a die to see how many spaces you move, and one or more of the sides is an explosion. When you roll the explosion side you press down on a big dynamite trigger in the centre of the board. The dynamite trigger randomly makes segments of the bridges jump from their sockets, sending the players on those bridge segments to the last corner of the board they occupied.

We also played a lot of Dino Checkers. It's checkers but with dinosaur pieces and the board is lava. You also get to keep your prisoners in volcanoes. It's Stegosauruses versus brontosauruses.

Memory was awesome too. Who doesn't love memory??

Me and my friends play Risk with a five dollar entry, so usually the pot is 20-25 bucks. I'm pretty damned good, and I win a lot, but it's fun always.

Gah I just got screwed over in Risk. I ended up getting killed with 5 risk cards leftover, unable to cash any in for reinforcements. My general mission card would have been easy to accomplish too.

Risk is much more fun than Monopoly. If you have a lousy start in Monopoly it's basically over for you. In Risk there's a much better chance of lingering and coming back to win.
