Stoner rock?

OK I don't smoke the cheeb (or do any drugs), but I do love Stoner Rock, also known as "Fuzz Rock" or "Cosmic Doom".

Lo-fi, psychedelic hard rock and heavy metal. There's lots of bands that fall under this genre (see the website) but my favorites are Clutch, Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet, Corrosion of Conformity, Hawkwind, The Atomic Bitchwax, Nebula and Mr. Plow

Wanted to see if there are any other fans of it here. Check out the website, they have an mp3 jukebox with literally hundreds of mp3s you can d/l, FULL SONGS, good stuff.

You neglected to mention Kyuss, and subsequently Queens of the Stone Age, a pioneer of the artform.

However, most of the artists mention (Kyuss and QOTSA) detest the term "stoner rock," (in the same manner that DJ Shadow, a pioneer of "trip hop" hates the term as well) so I'd refrain from actually calling it that.

Edit: And for some reason Kyuss is not listed there, while Queens and Mondo Generator and a bunch of other bands that aren't as good as Kyuss are.... Seems like a sketch website to me....

Yeah I have a few discs by each of those bands, never really got into either of them. Alternately the site has a mirror at http://www.fuzzrock.com

Besides Mondo Generator, anything else you recommend?

Honestly, I think Mondo Gen. kinda sucks. Clutch is really good, though, and so is Fu Manchu. (My Life With the)Thrill Kill Kult is pretty good also. Other than those... 5 or so, I'm not much into the genre.

Dude if you like that kind of stuff, you gotta check out the Atomic Bitchwax. On their first couple discs, about half the songs are instrumentals. They have this one song "The Formula" which is an amazing 10 minute instrumental with some killer guitar riffs. They are probably my second favorite band next to Clutch. Absolute top of the recommended list from me, gotta check 'em out.

ever hear of The Mars Volta? i dk if they are considered "stoner rock" but in the right state of mind they are amazing, i went to one of there shows a while ago and it kicked ass, listen to them they are good

Mars Volta are soooo emo. Nowhere near fuzz rock/"stoner" rock.

I agree with you, though. They're super awesome. Just not masculine enough for this genre.

idk what u consider stoner rock, but i am a stoner, and i listen to lots of bands, so here are some that are really relaxing to listen to...

Dave Matthews Band
Phish
Dispatch
O.A.R.
Moe.
Gorillaz(have some trippy ass songs)
Jack Johnson
Weezer
Sublime

thats all i can think of for now...but all those bands are great IMO.

I think those are more "grungey" hippy bands for the most part, and I don't think gorillaz is really considered rock music, but they do have some pretty good and trippy music.

You should check out Iggy Pop & the Stooges' "Funhouse" and Ween's "The Mollusk." Those are pretty fuzzy albums. Primus has some good stuff too, but download it... their albums aren't consistant. If you're really baked try turning the television to channel 4.

Ok I am reeeeeeally resisting the urge to flame here. So I will only be mildly mean. Those bands trigger my gag reflex. They are not "Stoner Rock". They are white surburban college kid rock. Just my opinion, but i don't like them... OK... kinda like OAR a little bit, but that's it.

I've met some kids who have talked about stonerrock.com and they are white and suburban. Are you suggesting only non-white innercity badasses like 'stoner rock' ?

Yeah I guess I kind of painted myself into a corner with that comment, as I am a white suburban kid who went to college. The crux of the problem seems to be that it is tempting to categorize music by who typically listens to it rather than what it actually sounds like. Case in point being the COO of the company I used to work for loved Gangsta Rap, especially Nelly, and he was a short pudgy white guy from Indiana.

Man, I can't believe none of you guys mentioned DOWN, especially Iron Clad Ben who listens to COC. They have 2 albums: NOLA and A Bustle in Your Hedgerow, both are sweet

(of course, because I love them). The front man of the band is Phil Anselmo which some people might know for his agressive vocals in

DOWN is on a backlog of bands I've been meaning to check out.

BTW, new NEBULA album came out last week, need to get that. Those guys are quintessential jammy-fuzzy-instrumental-kick-ass-guitar-soloin'-asskicking Stoner Rock.
