yeah sorry gareth.

Nic i meant that footbag keeps me fit to some degree, of course it would be better if i did some squash assocaited drills for fitness, but i would rather play footbag.

Well no footbag last night, due to hard game at squash.

I played glen ward. He was the club champion in 2004. I took this title in 2005

I won the first set 9-6

then i lost the next 3: 9-6, 9-4, 10-9

What was dissapointing: I was very tired in the 2nd set, too many crosscourts which allowed him to volley, my backhand drop volleys were shit house, and i need to hold my shot more to throw him off balance.

What was good: It was my first competion match for two months so i shouldn't expect to much. In the last set i was down 8-1 match ball and then got back to 9-8 set point for me, before self destructing and hitting 3 errors off balls i would hit for winners. i didn't spit the dummy, i looked at the match objectively and it seemed to help.

feeling better for it

peace

Thanks for writing about your squash match Hagesy, it was a very interesting read :).

I didn't solo today and I won't becuase girlfriend is here and it's too hard to play while she is there :p.

I shreded 3.5 hours in town today with Toby and the Japanese guys. Hiro is hitting paradon easily midrun 8O and he can pixie and fairy both sides now and he hit legbeater midstring first try today! WOW! Hiro can also hit motion pretty easy and has hit pixie ss motion!
Ryo was kicking well, he can do pretty long tiltless stings unlike the others, and he can do whirls, drifters, butterflys and some pixie moves quite consistantly midrun now :).
Shota didn't show up today, but he is the other good Japanese guy.
Me and toby had a run length race, which we often do. I think we tied on 62 contacts (tiltless), which is above average for him ;).
Toby gave me some pointers on whirls which should help me not to roll my ankle!!! I footed whirl > ducking clip > whirl today, and can hit a downtime whirl pretty good both sides. I have hit blurry whirl, but still no pdx whirl lol. Blurry is easier :p.
Overall it was pretty crap shred, because it's Chinese New Year and they played the crapest music I have ever heard all day, and then some old guys start banging pots as load as they could, I think they were competiting to see who could bang the most out of time!! :x AHHHH! So annoying!

I will certainly solo tomorrow 8O!

I had a small session with Foxy today.
I was bored shitless and decided to go for a drive. Well, I ended up at his place and woke him up (at 1:30pm!!). He was keen for a kick so we went for a drive to the A mart Allsports carpark and had a shred there.
He did alright for someone who hasn't played in a long while.
I did ok, too.
I managed to hit an easy clipper set dlo, and phoenix. Little else of note.

It's amazing how this thread has grown to encompass not only all of Queensland, but now New Zealand!
Cool. :D

Great work Gareth, looking forward to seeing those tricks!

I think everyone who makes an entry here all the time should have a tally of how many hours like Hagesy and some others (including myself) have. Its a great way to feel good about yourself i guess.

So far Hagesy is ripping it with 10 hours 15mins, thats some serious schooling there! I'm on 9 hours so i gotta do more

Pft. It's not worth the effort for me. That I played... that's enough.

Had a really small session today, and I hope im invited to write in the BCS blog, ill create my own later when my shins a better.
Well my session was pretty much re schooling my osis, i realised that my flip osis was delaying it a bit too high and therefore it just roled off. Havent set any new records yet . However, i did 3 torques in a row, hand catch to hand catch style, but i was SO amazed at how easy theyve gotten :o since after nationals. Then my left shins started to bring a slight pulsating pain, and it was such a light session... F*&K it sucks so much. Its starting to get to me. Im starting to rehabilitate and taking things a little slower, and gradually step it up, its slowing my game so friggen much but atm.
Anyways toodles

Yo nic it seems you have a solid shred crew man.

It is cool that foxy was keen for a kick

Jas do something about your shin splints, although i suffer from them and do nothing

I left club practice yesterday due to my little niggle in my hamstring, went home, stretched, put on some extra heat dencorub, and shredded.

Session: 10

Length: 60 minutes

Music: Gabrial and dresden, such a wicked live set

Drilled: Pixies

Assessment: average, but much better than earlier

New Records: none

My niggle is now an injury, and i will definately wont be playing today and i have a feeling i will be out for at least a week. i am stupid because i have had the same niggle for about 18 months. It appears sometimes after a tough match of squash usually. Instead of resting it that day, i play footbag and squash and make it worse. I think this is the 4th time it will put me out for a week. I am silly but no doubt will not learn from this mistake and do the same thing about 3 months from now.

total footbag time since (19/1/06) 11 hrs 15 mins.

You cant really do anything about shin splints except ice and rest them and use your legs more frequently once the pains gone so that the muscles adapt to the activity better. Before the aus champs i didnt really do any activity besides pump a couple of weights. And ive got 'aftermarket' insoles in my shoes too. Was planning on investing in some Climas, but ill see.

To help cure your shin splints, or at least alleviate the pain, do alot of calf stretches before, during and after sessions, and when you arent playing, do toe raises. Sit on a chair with your feet flat on the ground, and raise your toes as high as they will go, using your heel as the pivot (ie. Dont lift your heel off the ground). YOu should feel the pull along the front of your shin. As you repeat the raise>lower of the toes over and over, you should start to feel the burn, thats not a bad thing, it means the muscles are working. You can either do them slowly and rythmically, or do them more rapidly, depending how you feel.

Do this regularly to strengthen the shin muscle.

You can also train on a carpet or mat to avoid the heavy contact on concrete. This will let you school ttricks and strengthen your muscles without heavy contact. Then when you have been doing this for a few sessions, try going back onto concrete.
Also avoid working too hard on tricks that involve harsh contact or too much tension on your shins (eg. STEPPING, Pixie (to an extent), Spinning)

Also make sure you replace the original Adidas insole that comes with Lavers, and replace it with a properly designed one from Rebel Sport or something. The original insole is complete shit. Dont play with that, or without an insole at all.

My origional Lavers (4 years old, I believe) still have their origional innersoles in. I used to get shin splints when I was learning mirages, but I got over it.
Sure, the innersoles aren't the best, but I've never had a problem with them.

Oh, and DO do the toe raising thing. It works.

Session tonight.

most of the cities are on the coastal, are ships used for transportation alot? how about trains?
[StR]BalinorNZ - NZ's official footbag forum - nzfootbag.phasing.org/forum says:
Trains used to be used a lot more but not much now, ships are used a lot, we have 3 islands so need to use fairys to cross the strights between islands a lot.
Anz says:
fairys? I think you mean ferrys

Lol Anz :p

Me and Toby went into town to film sick3 and sick1 today :D. I thought it would be really painful because I have sunburnt feet (that's why I didn't shred yesterday), but it wasn't so bad :D.
Me and Toby ended up having a schooling session which I will count as a solo session because it pretty much was.

Solo Session 6: 3 hours (Yearly total: 12 hours)
Drilled: Infinity, bops, whirls, guiltless.
Notes: Toby got 25 infinities, and I declared that it was a fluke, he argued that he just doesn't try most of the time. The I hit 25 infinities, and he proved me right by trying for half an hour and not getting over 20 again :) heheheh owned.
I have been taking my bop(I use the word bop to mean easy 3's instead of butterfly-osis-pdx mirage) drill more seriously, and I hit 19 contacts of it (Osis>Infinity>Ducking clip rpt). That was a nice surprise.
We hit our sick3s and sick1s at the start of the session. I didn't try very hard and hit some pretty easy entrys, but I still like them. Toby actually had to try for once to hit a sick3 lol, he normally flukes it first try :p.
Toby helped me a bit more with whirls. I hit whirl bsos, pdx whirl and 3 whirls in a row on good side. Still much work to be done :D.

Then we got subway. All in all a great day :)

Someone should rename this the Australasian or Oceanic blog or something :P

I have stock insoles... is it really important to change them? I've had minor shin splints for months now... all it means is after a hard session they ache only slightly, and that if I ever knock my shins it really really hurts. I can't be bothered fixing it :D

Crap... sick 1's and 3's... when am I going to film?? :(

The support in Lavers at the best of times is poor, coupled with shithouse stock insoles and the gradual wearing away of the soles = shin splints or knee damage

But what the fuck, do what you like.

hi
i think ian is right
if it hurts
you 100% have to change
i have never had shin splints
so i usually dont change the insole
although i have done it to one pair that i have had
and they have been fine
the ones i wear now i havent changed
just because i really dont beleive that any random piece of rubber shit is so high tech that i should have to pay 30$ for it
has anyone ever tried out cheap insoles
or had any success making their own
seeing that you really love footbag jamie
i would reccommend you get some insoles pronto
yes they cost money
and even i dont like paying for them
but its either a night on the town or your footbag health
it really should be an easy choice
health should really be everyones first priority
it makes me sad to hear about ppl feeling injured ect
i hope everyone recovers soon
it really is so much more activity here than at ausfootbag
^^
