that is if you guys let me being an american and all. i wouldnt compete or anything becuase of it being a canadian thing but it would be for sure cool to go. and i would get to meet a lot more shredders.
Canadian Footbag Championships
well, isnt this a fun topic 
The Canada Cup of footbag IMHO, doesnt sound any less lame than the Canadian Footbag champs, or the GReen Cup, (where the name was 'stolen' from). Plus it sort of throws back to the 80's (The CANADA Caup of hockey...) anyways, I digress. Ive already jacked up $1000 for prize money for net, and the pot keeps growing. Ive arranged a site for net, and even a few other sponsors.
Making this an annual event is a fine idea, but as rory pointed out, who else set up a registered provincial association? (Quebec has one, Yves Archambault I believe deals with that).
Also, your tax deductible amature sport org is a long ways off (I believe Takraw Canada was denied as they didnt have 2500 paying members or something insane).
Setting up a federal body is good and fine (In Canada, IFPA is american), but to what purpose. Is anyone going to actually run it here? Not that im being cynical
There is far too much divisiveness between net and freestyle. We net types do our own thing for the most part and same goes for the freestylers, which is why I pushed ahead with this event for net regardless of the freestyle aspect.

Yes sen, i know what it stands for, but in Canada, it offers no 'benefits' per say. Manitoba is probably the most central province of Canada, why not hold it there? Not saying that we should leave it to Hackrifice but they know how to throw their shit on the wall . Or have it alternate each year, east coast one year, west coast the other. Sounds logical

Do you realise that footbagcanada.ca/com/whatever (they have like 8 domain names bought up) is a store? Owning the appropriate domain name(s) is hardly a significant step towards actually being a sports governing body.
2500 is a very frightening number, but I'll bet that there are a lot more 'high performance' footbaggers in Canada than there are Takraw players (high performance is defined in terms of amateur sport as currently or potentially ranking in the top 16 worldwide). That could work to our advantage.
I'm discouraged that nobody seems interested in this. Until there's a national governing body, there's no national championships, it's that simple. Nothing proposed would have any more legitimacy than if I were to claim that the national championships were yesterday in my basement (fyi: I won the sick3, sick1, shred30 and routines with *almost* dropless consecutive inside kicks). Even if charitable status is unattainable, we should at least be thinking about federal incorporation as a non-profit, with a little board of directors elected by the Canadian IFPA membership who could then have proper authority to name such and such a city as host.

as far as teh takraw membership piece you said, That is probably true, but takraw is a far more legit international sport as far as governance, membership, etc... (They are an actual classified olympic sport, class e. They have done demos for the IOC, so on...)

I am very interested in a national association and event. What's preventing growth of footbag in Canada? Geographic isolation and lack of organization. Organization and promotion needs to increase locally before it can increase nationally.

geography is probably problem number one. no one plays between winnipeg and brantford, that's like 2000 km's. Since there's nothing that we can do about that, other than hope and pray that clubs pop up in Kenora, Dryden, Thunder bay, Sault-Ste. Marie, Wawa, Pembroke, etc., i think working towards creating a national organization is our best option. i haven't really sat on any comittees at any point but i'd be willing to assisst in the creation of a canadian footbag government.
