Hey everyone,
Air Guitar 2005 World Championships in Oulu, Finland last year were a major upset for the US with their first loss EVER in the history of competitive Air Guitar. Michael "Destroyer" Heffels took home first place back to Holland. US Air Guitar maestros such as Bjorn Turoque and the Rockness Monster are eager to claim back the crown for the US of A.
Now is a great time to get involved and compete! Air Guitar Regionals will be sweeping the US from March to June. First one will be in NYC on March 2nd. All other dates are TBA right now. For all you bedroom Air Guitar virtuosos here is your chance to show everyone what you've got!!! http://www.airguitarusa.com/index.htm
I'll be at the Austin one (still working on coming up with a good Air Guitar name). If there isn't one in your city, there's info on how to get one organized! RAwk On!
Air guitar is some serious $%#*, not to be taken lightly. Truly great air guitar performances are a miraculous spectacle that can transcend the musical artform into an "airness" all their own. In fact there is a lady in the UK who is doing her PhD thesis on the artform of Air Guitar.
It's one form of entertainment where an individual jamming away in the comfort of his or her own bedroom can be both the biggest STAR... and the biggest FAN. Where else you gonna find THAT?
When was the last time you put on like a really jammy Allman Brothers or Lynyrd Skynyrd (or whoever you like) song and just air guitared along with it with everything you had in you? It's an amazing feeling. If you haven't done it in a while, I suggest you try it, it's extremely satisfying. Hopefully that will change your thinking a little bit and make you appreciate this whole phenomenon as much as you should.
I'm sorry, but I wouldn't call air guitar a phenomenon. Whats next? lip sync world championships? Talent? I hate to be a naysayer, but I just don't get how you can compete air guitar.
IMO, I think it's pretty lame. Most of it doesn't even match the music. What am I missing?
I was expecting a lot more before I watched one of the videos. I was expecting them to actually do all the fingering, and whatnot without a guitar, and I can see the talent in that. The dancing around in very tight shiny pants and not really appearing to concentrate as much on the actual "air-guitar"ing aspect of "air guitar" really dissuaded me from my previous opinion
I think it could be cooler than the video I watched.
HAHAHA...I just watched the video that Davey M. posted a link to. So sad
