What is responsible for our behaviour?

Post by DoctorJay »

Hi,

lately I spend some time wondering about this question. What do you think?

I want to discuss the three theories of cognitivsm ( Piaget ), depth psychology ( Freud , Adler) and behaviourism ( Pawlow, Skinner ).

Of course you can express your own or another theorie which controls your behaviour.

I'm going to write my high school finals about psychology, just yesterday I read about this. Here's what at least I think:

The society where we grow up and also a bit our genes determine who we are and that way how we behave.

Freud's thories are old. Pawlows bahaviourism theory proves that enviroments signal affect our behaving.

Humans cognitive skills are only make our behaviour more complex, harder to determine, unlike animals.

(I hope I got all the terms right in English)

There are many factors that play a part in the way all human beings behave. Culture is one. Life experience is another. Religion is a third. Personal innate characteristics is a fourth. And an individual's capacity for making rational decisions vs. their desire to do so. I think that the decisions any human being makes revolve around which of these factors, or a combination thereof, is most influential within a specific person.

classical conditioning is what really makes everyone who they are , we are conditioned to like the things we like , do the things we do , and the question comes up , do we have the free will do make our own desiocions not based on other peoples actions , sometimes that is the case , but most of us are conditioned to our own actions, why do you listen to the music you like , is it because you want to or is it because it was introduced to you and you were condtioned to like that type of music , kind of hard to explain just some shit im learning in psycology

I believe that we do things because of concepts and ideas that we have learned throughout our lives. A perfect example of this is prejudice, a learned behavior. Noone is born being prejudice against a group of people, they learn due to the environment that they are in and the people that they are consistently in contact with. Due to who a person hangs out with, he/she can learn to hate a group of people that they would not hate if they were raised in a different town or country.

this can be argued in both points in endless ways. This whole discussion is just another way of asking which you believe we learn actions and beliefs from, or in other words nature vs. nurture. For me, it depends on the thing that i am doing. There are some behaviors that i have learned by living in the society that i am in, and others that i have developed because of my own cognitive abilities.

I think it was Freud who stated all that crap about the id, ego and superego, and i completely agree with it. The id is what makes us have desires for things that are pleasurable for us, which makes us do the things that we love. For example, i play footbag due to the powerful drive of my Id, or source of pleasure.

I am done for now, because im too tired to type anymore and i have to go to sleep. I will continue this discussion later.
