So I'm sitting in the back of the bus on the way home. The bus is pretty crowded but there is a seat open right next to me. I noticed the several people that had been standing started for it, only to back off once they had seen me. It might have had something to do with what I was wearing; my oversized gangsta-ass hoodie, my knit cap just over my eyes and the hood over it. I haven't shaved in a couple days so my goatee is kinda scraggly looking. At this point I really wasn't sure if it was my looks, I just figured they didn't want to navigate through all the other people to get to the open seat.
My stop comes up and I get up and make my way to the rear exit of the bus. There was a pair of women (elementary school teachers from what I can tell from their conversations) who had been talking to each other the whole ride that sat a few seats away on the back row. As I got to the exit and waited for the bus to stop and let me out one of the women loudly said, "Well thank god, now we've to room to breath back here!"
"
Audrey!!! I think he can hear you..." her friend muttered nervously.
"I'm not going to let those gangs frighten me!" Audrey boldly declared.
I step out of the bus trying really hard not to bust out laughing. Good for you Audrey! You keep fighting the good fight, dear. I sincerely hope that it doesn't get you shot, no really. I thought that was the end of it. Now it's a 3 block walk from the bus stop to my apartment and another woman, who had gotten off the same bus through the front exit was going the same direction as me. She was about 10 feet in front of me for the first few minutes. She got to the end of one block and checked to her left before she crossed the street and did a double take when she noticed I was not too far behind her. Her pace became noticably slower and moved to the far right edge of the sidewalk, as if she wanted me to pass her up. Normally I would pass someone up because it's dark, we're the only 2 people on the sidewalk and I'm aware that I'm making them uncomfortable. But I've been having knee problems the past few weeks and I really can't walk all that fast right now.
She keeps checking over her shoulder as discretely as she could to see if I was going to pass her. I get to within 5 feet of her and she must have had a change of mind becasue she suddenly quickens her pace. She gets to the end of the block and crosses the street so she could just walk on the other side. Now
I'm getting a little paranoid thinking that there maybe some scary looking dude behind me! So, of course I check. Nobody .
I finally get home and check myself in the mirror to see what the fuss was all about...
Yes, I always try to look tough and constipated when posing in front of the mirror. And yes my mirror automatically changes images to B&W while adjusting the brightness and contrast.
