butterflies and SS clippers

Post by Zeb Jackson »

hey i was wondering if i could get some advise on butterflys and ss clippers, because im having alot of trouble with them

butterflys: when i go to hop over the bag i cant get my foot planted in time to clipper stall the bag...

SS clipper: when i go to do the second one i kind of tend to lose my balance a little disabling me from getting the second

if someone could help me that would be awesome

EDIT

As far as doing consecutive same side clippers, are you planting in between? If not, that could be a source of problems for ya. Try planting in between. And if you ARE planting, mayhaps you're not giving yourself enough time with the set? I mean, set a little bit higher, so that when you do plant, you have a bit more time to get your balance, then BAM, clipper again.

As far as butterflies are concerned, I can't give you much advice, but...remember to try setting up the clipper part during the butterfly dex, so that all you have to do is get your support foot on the ground, then BAM, butterfly.

Hopefully that helps.

I agree that you should plant in-between consecutive ss clippers. That gives you a lot more control than not planting. As for the butterflies, just think of them as clippers, so make your dexterity not-so-obvious. Do you understand what I mean? When you go over the bag with the dexing leg, just barely go over it. This helped me a lot when I worked on butterflies, so it might help you too. Good luck!

Yeah when I first tried butterflies I was doing a HUGE dex and the bag was already on the ground by the time I had the dexing leg planted. Now I'm trying to make it a very subtle hop but I still can't get the timing and placement right. Where do I want to set it relative to my body from say a toe set?

From a toe delay, set the bag right in front of you to about waist height. For the dex part, you should just "fall" into the butterfly. That's what reduces the dexing window. Hope this helps!

when it comes to butterflies you almost shouldnt have your foot planted when you catch it, you should catch the bag as your leg is just getting close to the ground, my point is there is no reason to wait for your foot to be planted when you catch it, just catch it whenever it is comfortable to catch it
