Yo, I'm another of the judges and I just gave my scores for open sick 1. I just wanted to make a few comments. First the scoring system the judges are supposed to be using is ridiculous and I doubt my scores reflect the order I would have given. I could have changed my scores but I wanted to follow the system given - ie. score out of 6 for difficulty - score out of 6 for execution and score out 3 for originality. Also the number of competitors made it very hard to give distinct scores. What's a harder move out of ducking ps mirage and blurry drifter (regardless of execution?). We should just give one score inline with what happens in other competitions.

Also I just wanted to give props to all the competitors - some really hardcore moves going down. Will judge others later and I'm sure you'll see the scores.

Ok, the judging system has just been changed. I made it up this morning in like 2 minutes before I rushed out the door.
Never fear, the eventual ranking will be very accurate .

An update on Jorden's sick3: I deleted the previously uploaded file that didn't have Jorden's entry from footbag.org and uploaded the new one I made, it seemed to work fine and the new file was displayed, but for some reason footbag.org didn't delete the old file, and it didn't replace it with the new file either. So it says the file is 26.7mb (the size of video with Jorden included), but when you download the file is really 24mb(size of file without Jorden)... DAMN IT!

I will be uploading Jorden's entry individually shortly.

Thanks for putting these together, It's great to see the variety that modified has to offer. The videos should be a reminder as to why we all play footbag. The look on everyones faces after they hit their sick one or sick three regardless of skill level is just beautiful.

I just wanted to write this..

I didn't try to go too fast because I thought it would be too laggy and unable to see, I've seen some videos like that and didn't want it to turn out like that.. I also tried to not move off the shot so i had to go slow and not mess up, i watched the little screen.. And I thought this was just to be randomly picked..not judged, so i did basic moves to try and win a 32 panel..Next event I'll do better tricks that I can do I now know what and what not to do so I'll do better. Thanks Nic and Ben!

My opinion on the novice sick 1-

1rst- Troy Erstling, I love it, you have made me want to start using my lap

2nd-Kensuke Yabutani, nice, it will be a long time before I hit this.

3rd- David Morawski, I think flails are hard!, after watching your sick 3, I bet you could’ve hit paradox flail.

4th- Myself, I personally would have liked the set to be higher.

5th- Chris Miller, cool, now hit phoenix.

6th-Koich Tanaka, I like the fairy and pickup, even though I don’t do either one.

7th- Logan Rudemiller, this is what I try to make my dimwalks look like.

8th- Danny Petrick, nice pixie

9th- Dominik Walczuk, Personally I like to see the pixie leg plant.

10th- Julien Romiti, I thought the pixie was "the".

11th- David Suggate, nice and controlled pixie legover.

12th- Ben Adler, just didn’t seem to be as controlled as Davids.

13th- Ben Roscoe, I thought the pixie was "the" on this one too, basically just a toe set osis.

14th- Benjamin Benulis, Nice osis but I think it would look better if you set from toe or clipper.

15th- Iian Cristel, no comment.

16th- Matt Mcfarland, I think you made it hard on yourself by setting so high.

1.Max B - P"S" Whirl - fucking hard trick, and decently executed. Seriously, the footwork is insane and super props for hitting this
2.Jeremy M - symp whirr (crispy) - great trick
3.Nic B - Fairy double pickup - SUPER hard trick..saw you trying this at aus nats and came close. Props!
4.Byrin - Montage - whirl was "toey" but still i believe it was clean. Props
5. Anz - nice!
6. Cod - Nice!

Jorden: very cool beast
Anssi Sundberg: nice selection of double dexes
Byrin Wylie: good powerful style (as always)
Nic Bathgate: I liked the choice of tricks.

These 4 entries were a good notch and half above the rest either in difficulty execution, variety or a mix of those..

and props to Nic for keeping these comps going they're great.

Nic has my comments for all the entries but here are my top three's (sorry if i spell any names wrong):
Novice sic1
1. Matt Coffman. Execution was hurt a little by the sideways movement.
2. Troy Erstling. Really original and well executed.
3. Logan Rudemiller. Good footwork and timing.
Novice sic3
1. Matt Coffman. Fairly well executed. Stalls all good. Duck slightly less than perfect.
2. Kensuke Yabutani. Good pixie and clip, whirl a little shoey, good dlo. whirl>dlo a good link.
3. Chris Miller. O.K. execution of a good combo. Work on style though - try and work on being more controled and poised.
Open sic1
1. Max Boucoiran. Wow. Tough, original trick really well executed. This is what sic 1 is about. The execution pushed it to the top.
2. Jeremy Mirken. Another wow, But the toey clippers and the subsequent forward set out hurt the execution.
3. Michal Biarda. Tough move, lacks a little poise but otherwise well executed.
Open sic3
1. Jorden Moir. The last dex on Venom looks thin but there, so WOW, hell of a combo.
2. Anssi Sundberg. Superfly looks thin but there. Awesome combo.
3. Byrin Wylie. The atomic set comes out to the side a little but otherwise well executed tough combo.

Novice sick 3:

Alesky: You butterfly was definately a highlight of your string for me. Very well exicuted.
Ben Adler: The ss Butterfly and the infinity were mad sturdy man. Solid string!
Benjamin Benulis: A lil slow, and I think long pants are holding you back... you could get away with tighter/faster dexes in shorts. The string was still very clean though! Props
Me: I USED to be proud of it... after learning more about what I was trying to hit, and what I wound up hitting... I'm disgusted.
Chris Miller: That was a SICK three! nice selection and perfect exicusion (...I think it's perfect...)
Danny: Nice ending to the string! PLO was a great way to finish it.
David Marowski: Syposium is a tough component for some people... you own it, bud!!
David Suggate: Flowed nicely! Props
Dominik: Looks to me like beuty pixie set you've got going for you
Fletcher Funk: haha, I'll say it again... 1 sided. SICK exicution, and the 1 sidedness may acctually have added to the styliness of it
Julien: There was a kid sitting next to me when I watched your entry and his jaw drops and he's like "Wow... that guy is good!!". Nice refraction
Kensuke: very nice pixie & a gorgeous DLO. That was a MIGHTY sick three, man!
Logan: Great rythem & an ILL crossbody rake.
Matt Coffman: I LOVE THIS ONE! Ducking osis is SICK
Troy: PHAT ducking! Uber-clean... I'm not a fan of lap stalls, because of past, personal experiences, but hitting butterfly off it is impresive!

Ok so I've scored the sick 1 comps now. I can't remember my exact results but it was:

1. Max B, 2. Jeremy M for open and 1. Troy E, 2 Matt C for novice.

I think in sick 1 execution is soooooo important. There was a large amount of thin or the tricks in both divisions which was a little disapointing. Still props to everybody for entering.

Benjamin Benulis: A lil slow, and I think long pants are holding you back... you could get away with tighter/faster dexes in shorts. The string was still very clean though! Props

I filmed that at the very beginning of January. I had just gotten my lavers and had been freestyling in skate shoes and jeans because I didn't know any better. I've since learned the value of shorts and my game has improved tremendously!

Open Sick Three
1. Jorden Moir. The last dex on the venom is thin, but I think its there. I managed to freeze it at a few good spots which indicate to me that he gets his toes around the bag. You cant be 100% certain but based on what i see i think its thin but not "the".
2. Anssi Sundberg. I can't see the superfly clearly but theres enough there to make me think it's clean.
3. Byrin Wylie. The atomic set come out the side a little but otherwise well executed and thumbs up for putting witchdoctor in the middle.
4. Andrey Egorev. Fairly well executed, though you move forward a little throughout. Not alot of points for difficulty or variety but the execution kept you up there.
5. Nic Bathgate. Again not a massively difficult combo but well executed. The blizzard could have been deeper but otherwise all good.
6. Chris May. Whirls are thin, the last one especially. Good footwork but you lean away at the end.
7. Toby Suggate. Good Pdx Whirl but you have to chase that mirage a little - same with the butterfly.
8. Dustin Rhodes. Form need work - posture and poise are a little untidy. The catch on the torque lacks control.
9. Shota Nakano. Well executed but didn't have the difficulty to place higher.
10. Tony Whitney. Pdx whirl could be better - lower set, hip pivot then whirl. It's all about posture, and timing. Osis at the end really hurt the difficulty.
11. Hiroyuki Morita. Paradon is thin but just O.K - I see a little bit of shoe pass by the bag. But this hurts the execution.
12. Mathieu Gauthier. Swirl is thin, duck is way too arched (it should be pretty much straight up and down) and the symp whirl set pushes the bag forward. For this combo to place higher you really needed the execution to be spot on.

Open Sick One
1. Max Boucoiran. Wow, what a mind bender. Difficult, original and really well executed. Thats waht sic1 is all about. The execution pushed it to the top.
2. Jeremy Mirken. Another Wow. The toey clippers and subsequent forward set out were the only thing that hurt this trick.
3. Michal Biarda. Quite a tough and original move, lacks poise though.
4. Alex Urano. Tough angle to judge the cleanliness/depth though it looks O.K. The set out comes forward and you lean back at the end which hurt the execution a little.
equal5. Max Jaeger. Solid move, well executed.
equal5. Andrey Egorov. Not massively difficult, but very well executed.
7. Shota Nakano. The catch is slightly off so the outgoing set is also a little off, but otherwise really good form.
8. Toby Suggate. Low difficulty but original.
9. Anssi Sunberg. This may have placed higher but its tough (impossible) to see the last dex which may or may not be clean - its thin at best. Also theres only a half spin I prefer if the set is straighter and the spinn comes further around.
10. Chris May. Another tough angle to judge how clean this is, again, thin at best. Clipper is caught way up on the heal.
11. Dustin Rhodes. Doesn't rotate through the move which is really important to the execution.
12. Flecher Funk. Set is way too high.
13. Jorden Moir. Dexs 2 and 3 look "the" to me.
14. Jesse Malouf. Difficult angle but the whirl looks the to me, it looks like you plant without having completed the dex.
15. Tony Whitney. The whirl is "the".
16. Byrin Wylie. Perhaps this should be higher as again its difficult to see but the whirl looks "the" . The other reason it's this low when there are other "the" moves in the comp is because added to the question mark over execution, its not the most original sic1 entry.
17. Nic Bathgate. Sorry dude but that 2nd dex looks "the" to me. Again tough to know for sure. If I'm wrong you'll have some kick-ass karma heading your way.
18. Hiroyuki Morita. Double down is clearly "the".

Novice Sick One
1. Matt Coffman. Execution was hurt a little by the sideways movement on the set and the butterfly.
2. Troy Erstling. Not overly difficult but original and well executed.
3. Logan Rudemiller Good footwork and timing. The butterfly is a little rushed.
4. Koichi Tunaka. Not very difficult but well executed.
5. David Morawski. Very close to being "the" which hurt the execution score, but good difficulty kept it well placed.
6. Ilan Cristal. Ezsy but very well executed.
7. Matt Mcfarland. Set is a little high.
8. Danny Petrick. Nice pixie, clean and high, but the butterfly is less poised and a little twised hurting difficulty and execution.
9. Chris Miller. Execution and difficulty hurt by the set which is too arched and high. This move really needs a straight set, also the clipper is caught high on the heal.
10. Ben Rosce. Easy but kind of original - more so than plo, osis, dimwalk for example. But the pixie set is barley there which hurts the execution and difficulty.
11. Ben Adler. Execution would be improved byreally getting that setting foot down faster.
12. Julien Romiti. Pixie is thin which is a shame because the timing and footwork are good.
13. David Suggate. Don't twist, focus on hitting the dexes. Twisting hurts the difficulty and execution.
14. Dominik Waczuk. The lack of a plant hurts the difficulty and execution.
15. Kensuke Yabutani. The pixie is good but the whirl is clearly "the".

Novice Sick Three
1. Matt Coffman. Fairly well executed. Stalls all good. Duck slightly less than perfect.
2. Kensuke Yabutani. Good pixie and clip, whirl alittle shoey, good dlo. whirl>dlo a good link.
3. Chris Miller. O.K. execution of a good combo. Work on style though - try and work on being more controled and poised.
4. Troy Erstling. Well executed up until the last clip, the set from which comes forward.
5. Fletcher Funk. O.K. execution good symps, BUT slight twist on the DLO and the combo lacks variety.
6. Ben Roscoe. Fairly well executed, lacks a bit of variety though it is quite original. Clippers seem good, but the set out of the refraction could be higher.
7. Julien Romiti. A little hunched over with the execution.
8. Logan Rudemiller. Good Illusion and clipper but you twist on the x-bod rake. last two moves lack the difficulty of the first, all the links lack difficulty.
9. Alesky Batrachenko. Good legover, toey clip on the Butterfly, the Osis looks O.K.
10. David Suggate. Not sure why, but i didn't write a comment. Looking at my scores the execution was quite good, but the combo lacks difficulty, variety, and originality.
11. Ben Adler. Its hard to see the bag so its also hard to comment but the clippers seem like they might be toey.
12. Danny Patrick. Pauses between moves which greatly reduces the difficulty of the links. The clipper on the Butterfly is a little rolley - it doesn't quite stick.
13. Dominik Walczuk. Pauses between moves reducing link difficultyy, toes aren't quite hitting the sweet spot.
14. Benjamin Benulis. Toey Clipper. Pause on the legover.
15. David Morawski. The Symp Fairy was the witch made this difficult to judge. Basically the The = a substancial reduction in all categories and really hurts the score.

wow, I've been pleasantly surprised by the judges' decisions so far. I was telling a friend when we filmed the sick 1: "Look, I don't have the technical know-how to compete with a lot of the open players. So I'm putting all my money on originality". But I was only aiming for middle of the pool.

concerning the open Sick 1, special props go to Jeremy Mirken, Anssi and Cod for insane and super unique tricks (first time I saw any of those on video). Props to Nic also for originality and to Jorden just because I really like EXTREME tricks even when "the".
