Life after sickness
is great.
While getting better I watched the original Dune again, some Fawlty Towers episodes (many of you probably know John Cleese and Connie Booth from Monty Python), Unbreakable, and played a little Tekken 3.
Thursday: Fletch, Mark, Jeremy and I kicked in the laundry room. Dude, we fucking mopped the floor. No, I mean it. One of the washers had overflowed so Jeremy mopped with some help from me, then we all wiped up the floor with newspaper to dry it the rest of the way. That’s how we do in Santa Cruz.
Friday: was a fun night for me for two reasons. I also saw “Goodnight and Good Luck.”
Saturday: was today. I had a nice skooling session with Jeremy. We played in front of his home and it was just beautiful outside. I am trying to learn dyno because it’s neat. I don’t know how interested I am in really getting it. I worked on drifters some and hit drifter>drifter>drifter>drifter then dropped just before a fifth one. That felt really good. Saying out loud, four doesn’t sound like a lot. But I’m still happy about it. My leg was hurting a lot last night while I was trying to go to bed, and I felt the same pain today so I stopped kicking. Jeremy played and skooled for a long time after I stopped.
I got home and watched “Millennium Actress” while I ate an entire standard-size cheese pizza by myself. I’m going to watch “Cat and Mouse” (Chinese with subtitles) and probably go into footbag chat later tonight. Ah Modified.

I haven't posted in a bit because the few times I've played, I didn't do anything worth posting about. I got sick (again) on Sunday? I lost my voice for the first or second day of school and it's not completely normal yet. I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to these last few posts, so I'll try to catch up now.

Today I signed up at a gym thanks to an early birthday present.
I went to work out at about 10:15pm and warmed up on a recumbent bike then did some arm stuff (because I have no arms anymore
). I went into the empty room that was unlocked with the lights on so I could skool a little. I found out later that I wasn't supposed to be there. But I'm going to keep using it until I get into trouble. I broke a really nice sweat.
Here's most of what I did:
Edit:
Thank you!!! I was very proud of that.King Monkey wrote:Good job on dominating that cheese pizza!

It was my fault for not giving him anything to film. I haven't been playing much or well recently.pips wrote:Having Emily slap you in the chest doesn't count, buddy.FunkLovesFootbag wrote:I'll be getting some fresh footage of Emily soon.

- 23 tiltless (I think the best I can do)
9 strong ss butterflies
5-6 flip ss butterflies
(poorly) tried whirl both sides
14 contacts of mirage>legover>rpt. (I know why I can't do more and I'm working on it.
)
practiced ATW in and out both sides
6 attempts at drifter (each side)
12 attempts at: pixie set, fairy set, stepping set. (both sides for all)
19 strong ss clip. (out of two tries)
14 flip ss clip. (out of two tries)

You can stay on my couch!King Monkey wrote:guess ill just have to come to America to see you shred!

Dave Morawski (Davey M.) was in town so he, Jeremy, Amelia, Fletch and I went to dinner. Then we came back to my house and sort of took turns sort of kicking.
Feb. 12
Dave, Jeremy, Fletch, and I kicked in Aptos. Every time I go to the shred spot above the beach on a nice day I remember how much I love that view. Just about perfect.
The session was fun. Dave has gotten so much better since I saw him last. Go clippers!
Uh. That's what I get for waiting to post: Nothing.
Feb. 13
Dat called me at around 3pm and asked if I wanted to go somewhere for Valentine's Day. His cousin had earned airline miles but they would expire in three days. I said I'd love to spend the day with my Valentine....
...footbag.
I decided to go to Oregon because I had never been there and I wanted to go somewhere where I'd find shredders, preferably people I hadn't met/kicked with before. I was going to try to go to Seattle but Portland worked out better for me. I don't really know Red Husted but I called him up and asked if I could crash at his house and if he'd like to kick and he was down. Dat offered to pick me up from Santa Cruz and drop me at the airport and make sure I got home after coming back, too. Once at the airport, I got laughed at by two guys at a coffee place because I asked what latte meant. I got on the plane at 8:50pm. At 11pm Red picked me up from the airport (because he's so nice).
Feb. 14
I woke up at about 9am and took a bus from Red's to downtown. It's so nice. I had a Chai Latte, looked at a few old churches, talked to some people around town, took the free trolley, and met Nate Linscott around 12:30. He took a bus from Eugene to hang out during the day and kick with us at night. We stopped at Powells which is the largest independent book store in the country: three or four levels tall and a whole block wide. It felt as big as a library and as comfortable as a book store. Then we hiked uphill to the Japanese Garden, "one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan." It was beautiful.

Then we walked back downtown, stopping in a small art gallery on the way. We met Red at Pioneer Square, which Red tells me is a hot spot for shred in the summer. While waiting for Red, Nate and I joined a big hack circle and I told a few who looked promising about footbag.org and they wished me a Happy Valentine's Day.
Red, Nate and I were sitting in a coffee place; I was sitting with my back to the window. Talking with or just listening to people who have been in the game for a long time and have run events is really enlightening. I love it when experienced people make themselves and their knowledge accessible to others. All of the sudden I turned around and saw this face:
(obviously not my picture)

walking by. Nate and Red saw him at the same time I did, and so did everyone else inside and outside. I'm glad I'm not the type of person to run up and try to take a picture of a person without their permission. It was clear that he and his crew (I didn't recognize them but Red says he thinks that two of the people with him are also in the band) just wanted to walk down the street and have a good day.
The reason we were sitting in the coffee place was that we had some time to kill before Noah Jay-Bonn and Nick Landes would be at the gym to kick with us. We walked to a gym and started kicking. Noah was there shortly, and a bit after that, Nick arrived.
Man, that session was great. It's always fun to be in a circle with Nate, and seeing Red, Noah, and Nick shred in person was a super treat. They're so good, and so nice and supportive. The session lasted from about 5:45 to 9pm, and the last men standing were Nate and Nick. That was phat to see them face off for a while.
After the session Nate, Red, and I got some pizza then went to a house party that Noah's band was playing at. It was a Valentine's Day party so most people were dressed in red, pink, or black. There were a lot of treats on a table in the living room. The three of us all mingled and hung out, it was fun. We left the party a little after midnight and went back to Red's. I was planning on taking a taxi to the airport the next morning but Red offered to save me money and time and just drive me there.
Feb 15th
The three of us got up at 5:30am, had pb&j's, then we were off to take me to the airport. I got there at 6:20am and my flight was at 7:10. I was a little worried that I might not make it. But I got there just before boarding started.
I slept on the way home (and missed the free drinks
) and Dat picked me up at 9am to take me back to Santa Cruz.
We stopped at my house for an hour or so, then he came to school with me! How fun, I don't think anyone has ever done that before. In the second class he volunteered to act out a role in a mini-play and he did a very good job.
Special thanks go out to:
Dat for the best Valentine's Day present ever;
Red for putting me up, the rides, and organizing such a fun kick/night;
and Nate for taking a long bus ride (and missing a class) to come hang out during the day and kick with us.

Well, that's my last few days. I don't think I'm going to play today, but will probably play alone tomorrow at the gym late night (10pm-12 or something).
Monday there's no school, Tuesday my class won't be in session, then Friday I leave for CSS. The gods must like me right now, but I'm a little fearful of the equal and opposite reaction to this week.
