The ingrown toenail thread

Post by Iron Clad Ben »

Alright so I'll admit it. I've had an ingrown toenail for years, never did much about it, kept thinking that ignoring it would make it go away. Now that I am trying to learn freestyle, it's just way too much of a pain in the... toe. Any sort of impact and I am in serious pain. The ingrown part has caused the skin to swell to well above the normal size. It was a problem I could ignore until unless I wanted to progress at freestyle so...

I went in for surgery today. They gave me a local, took out the problem parts of the nail and killed the nail beds on both edges with phenol. I feel better already. I should have taken "before" pics. Here's "in between". I can't take the wrap off until tomorrow.

Will post the "after" pics. I am soooo glad I did this. If you have one of these bad boys, go get it taken care of, you'll be glad you did.

I had the same experience. For about 2 years I had an ingrown toe nail on both my toes from soccer, and tried ignoring them thinking they would go away. Then in September I got surgery on it, and they lifted up my whole nail and cut the sides of the nail so it wouldnt grow. They did it on one toe because it was real bad but they didnt do it to my other toe and they said let the nail grow out and then cut it straight. So far the nails been pretty good once in a while it hurts if my toes hit the front of my shoes. But I'm glad I did it even though the worst part is the 4 needle shots into your toe..... oh boy my mom said I was so white and she thought i was ready to faint(im not a fan of needles). Get it done if you have ingrowns, doesnt cost much.... its not even really a surgery.

How long 'til you can footbag after the surgery is performed?

Savage pictures, by the way..Should have taken it w/o sock and bandage, respectively.

I feel fine now, but doctor says no heavy activity (footbag included) till Friday. Hasn't stopped me from screwing around here or there. I'll post a pic of it when I can stop wearing a bandage around it.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Ive had two ingrown tonail, both have really medded up every thing. One was on my right big toe, and one was on my left big toe. They suck. Both of mine got infected so I had to watch it real close. After the surgeries I had about half a tonail on each side.
