Stanley "Tookie" Williams
I was listening to the "Ed Schultz Show" on "Air America" radio and he had on a guest who speculated (perhaps a bit unreasonable) that Arnold denied clemency because his approval ratings are way down and that Williams death would start a race riot that the LAPD and probably the National Guard would have to supress. In effect the riots would cause a moment of chaos that Arnold would then show himself capable of handling (like Rudolph Guliani after 9/11), thus raising his approval rating as a heroic Governor. There are holes in that speculation and I think it's pretty ridiculous.
On the other hand, it would be an insanely great political move for that Bush feller to swoop in with a Presidential Pardon. His approval rating amongst blacks and minorites would most likely skyrocket and that's where he's hurting the most. In addition, his party would likely gain the black vote in 2008 and would have a chance at redeeming themselves from being the white elitist anti-minority party that they are.

Seems a lot better of an idea on paper. Bush has already alienated himself from his base enough this year, and if you have forgotten it was his base that won him the Presidency last year.On the other hand, it would be an insanely great political move for that Bush feller to swoop in with a Presidential Pardon. I know, it's just the Hollywood ending I'm looking for.BainbridgeShred wrote: Seems a lot better of an idea on paper. Bush has already alienated himself from his base enough this year, and if you have forgotten it was his base that won him the Presidency last year.
Either that, or in about 5 hours they'll be airing "Survivor: South Central".

He he , Arnold would be more the the "Katrina-governor" than the "9-11 Mayor".(....)Williams death would start a race riot that the LAPD and probably the National Guard would have to supress. Arnold has only one play in the playbook, that is to borrow money(for the state).
I don't know how that will quell riots.
It does make me wonder however, what will happen when nobody will loan California any money.
Think about the rioting scenarios after that.

I got a link with a picture of one shotgun victim of Tookie........... imagine a 1/4 of a womans' face blasted off, with the rest pockmarked with buckshot holes.
Terrible
I recommend not looking at it, unless you think Tookie is the new Jesus with Biceps.

I'd like to use a footbag term "both sides" here; the US government shouldn't kill it's citizens, thus you have to remember that Tookie killed people aswell.Kyle Hewitt wrote:DoctorJay wrote:He is dead - unbelieveable how dumb people can act .
and It's funny how we think we can play god and take peoples lives away when shouldnt have that right to
Though he sat 24(?) years in prison - in Finland the "Life" usually lasts 12 years maximum, so he would have done it twice here.

http://www.savetookie.org/bio.htmlHis trial was based on circumstantial evidence and the testimony of several witnesses, all of whom were facing a range of felony charges, including fraud, rape, murder and mutilation. Even the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals stated in a September 10, 2002, ruling that the witnesses in Stan’s case had “less-than-clean backgrounds and incentives to lie in order to obtain leniency from the state in either charging or sentencing.”
Research next time please.

Personally i'm glad they put him to death. He killed innocent people. Shot a child in the face with a shotgun...
I don't care how hard you try and become good in hopes that you won't be put to death or go to hell or whatever your motivation is. The guy deserved what he dished out and he got it.
