In case someone cares: Caleb's Footblog
Please excuse my anatomical medical term usage in the follow :
What rumors have you heard about improper quad stretches ?? For the most part, like you said, they are pretty simple. As long as you keep alignment of hips to knees, back to the ankle, the torques produced on the joint should be minimal. I could see if you went to either side it'd produce some unwanted forces medially or laterally. If you really want to get a good stretch, it's all about how the pelvis is kept. If you do a posterior pelvic tilt while doing a quad stretch, it allows a lot more efficient stretch. Pretty much slouching and your pelvis rolling forward when you lean forward just allows the muscles to keep a shortened state (no no). If you stand errect, you'll notice a lot more stretch in the quads, and if you add a slight pelvic tilt to it, it will elongate the quads that much more.
http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=8
Directly under pelvic mobilization shows pelvic tilts, both anterior and posterior, give you a better understanding. It all has to do how the longest quad muscle attaches to the A.S.I.S Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (front top portion of hip). I'm tired and I'm just gonna stop there, I keep digging myself further ... so tired...
Also, I will do the cathedral stair run when I visit you next time. I will probably die, but I'll do it.

Haha! That'd be awesome John! Thanks for the additional info. I'm sure you know about all of this in way more detail than I so it's good that you're backing me up.
I apologize for what follows, folks. It's really not interesting and I could just have an AIM convo with HooD but oh well.
That tip of the day was sparked by my roommate. I was stretching my right quad with my right hand, and he told me to stretch my it by pulling it back with my left hand, staggering. Meanwhile, as he demonstrated, he was leaning on the wall for balance and his upper leg was at a 45 degree angle from the floor. BUT IT'S OK!!! His gym teacher told him to use the opposite hand to stretch the opposite side. WRONGO!!! I told him, the opposite hand thing suggests a position where, to maintain balance you need that perpedicular to the floor position. If you lean all over the place and lose that form, the suggestion is pointless. But, my roomy never knew that little fact. So these incorrect rumors start when people are partially informed.

Ugh.......five hours of sleep. My entire body is pissed at me right now. I can't wait to footbag later tonight! Haha.
6:00AM Workout 1 of 2 for 2/7/06 - Lifting
Well, I guess when it comes to my lifting and the blog, we'll just log the fact that I did lift. This probably is not interesting because it has nothing to do with footbag, I just like being healthy. So, I won't really post specific exercises and weights that I do, fearing the extreme bordome you readers experience. Unless of course someone wants me to post specifics as like an example/comparison to their workouts, or to laugh at my inability to lift heavy objects. Afterall, I'm hear to motivate and entertain.
The way my lifting workouts go is basically I pick 2 or 3 body parts to punish, whatever I feel like doing. The muscles worked should not be opposing though (ex. biceps and triceps in the same day). Working and tightening two muscles that contract in the opposite direction is like begging for a pull/tear from doing something arbitrary like drinking a glass of water the next day. Haha that would suck.
Today it was biceps, shoulders, and abs.
Location: Peterson Event Center
Self Status: No sleep, low morale, less motivation
Leg status: I forgot to pick them up from the 27th floor of the cathedral.

Since I am looking to buy a decent camcorder for as much value as possible, and i have no clue about camcorders, the dude in the cubicle next to me said he'd let me borrow his camcorder to see what it's like. You know what that means folks!! I just HAVE to make a video. Stay tuned.

8:00PM Workout 2 of 2 for 2/7/06 - 1.5 hour shred
I had no energy today AND I was a little sore from the Cathedral run last night. I've never done anything like that. Still, I persevered to skool some kickey sack tricks for some time. I was doing a lot of blenders, eggbeaters, and jani/sunilwalkers. Those are all new and fun things for me. There were a few highlights and a few decent strings, but I wasn't expecting too much out of myself today.
-Whirling swirl>Blurry whirl (both sides)
-PS Whirl>Symp whirl (both sides)
-Very close to bladerunner
-Footed an Atomic backside symp toe blur (I have no idea what to actually call that. Haha, I'm sure that's not correct)
Location: My Apartment
Self Status: Is it Sunday yet so I can do nothing?
Leg Status: Nothing a few stretches and Advil before bed can't solve.
I'm going to bed at like 10 o'clock today. Expect big results for tomorrow

6:00AM Workout 1 of 2 for 2/8/06 - Stair Run
Time - 21:05
Argh! That's not exactly my best time ever! But I still feel tired so I'll blame it on that
. It was sooooooooooo cold this morning. I love the crazy looks I get when people see me running by in light clothes and a thin layer of underarmor while they all have like 2 winter coats a scarf and a space heater with them or something. Haha.
Thinking up cool combos to hit today. Maybe I'll actually hit a challenge or two. You guys sure didn't go easy on me with those.
Location: All over Pittsburgh
Self Status: Still tired but I'm starting to feel better
Leg Status: A-OK

Holy shit. I came home from work at around 5:30PM and slept until 9:00PM. Maybe I've been working a little too hard haha! No footbag today out of fear for dying a young death, plus I need to run some errands still. A totally blog-worthy entry.
This has no official basis but I've always found that I absolutely CANNOT have a good session on 5hours of sleep or less. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject? (This is where the Cleaver comes in with like nemesis>nemesis when he hasn't slept for 4 days or something
)Coincidentally though, it has been found that the brain doesn't function normally on 4 hours of sleep or less. A little food for thought when you're cramming for mid-terms this week.
So I guess Tip of the day:
SLEEP. Haha. Tough one.

Yeah, I downloaded that vid, Josiah. Thanks!
I never could sleep in much. Even as a kid, and especially when this internship is over and I go back to class. Haha, you'll be seeing blogs that aren't even coherent about me sleeping 3 hours and going to class for 5, then studying for 6 and footbagging after....it gets bad. I don't even know why I do this stuff to myself. That's just how I do. Haha.
Speaking of which: That nap/coma that I had yesterday really messed with me. I got little sleep overnight and didn't even attempt to workout this morning. Sorry to disappoint. It will all work out in the end. You'll see.

8:00PM Workout 1 of 1 for 2/9/06 - Footbag (a bit less than an hour)
I just basically worked on short links and big tricks. Highlights:
-matador>ps whirl (both sides)
-ps whirl>scorp>ps whirl>scorp
-nemesis (footed)
-almost fury bsos
-gauntlet (flew across the room after the delay, doesn't count but it's close)
Yeah, don't be too impressed though. All of these were from many, MANY tries. I was basically putting muscle memory into high gear.
Tip of the Day:
Scott Davidson gave me a long lecture about muscle memory once. Two main points from it:
1.) Repetition is the key to muscle memory. So, near the end of your footbag session when you have a little energy left, pick a new or new-ish move and do like 35 of them in a row. It doesn't matter if you drop. Just keep the best form you possibly can and keep trying. The next day you just may see DRAMATIC results.
(You probably shouldn't do this more than twice a week though. You can over-do yourself on dramatic results and end up with some very confused legs.)
2.) Your brain learns things on both sides. There is no reason to favor one side from initially learning a concept. Once you start to use one side more, that side's muscles and muscle memory begins to develop and you see one-sidedness begin. - A little something to think about when you're skooling.
(I guess that's two tips. No tip tomorrow. I may run out sooner than I plan to!

This entire week I have been a lazy bum! No morning workout yet again! I blame females. This whole week I've been pulled in like 18,000 directions and for some reason a female will always decide she wants to talk at like 12:30 when I have to wakeup six hours from then. Haha. But you gotta love em. A worthy sacrifice.
I believe it's Rocky 1 when Mick says to the Rock, "Women weaken legs." An appropriate quote. LOL

4:00PM Workout 1 of 1 for 2/11/06 - 2hr session w/ Jake
I kicked with Jake Milofsky today. It was a super fun session but we both played just OK. He had a few long runs with cool stuff in em. I remember whirl>pdx whirl>(repeat) in the middle of a run. I also had some OK stuff.
-Hit Atomic Merlin at last and I think I can do it both sides
-One really strong run of around 30 contacts
-Stepping dada curve
-Close to Zoid PS whirl
I don't know if you can have paradox out of zoid but it felt paradox with the double hip flex. Any thoughts?
Location: Pitt Classroom
Self Status: Feeling good
Leg Status: Feeling well (I think that's the correct grammar usage actually)

6:00AM Workout 1 of 1 for Monday 2/13/06 - Lifting
Well last week just about blew ass as far as the blog goes. I hit some good stuff but I was busy and getting sick and it just was not a good time. One a day workouts and slacking to boot. But we start again folks! I am fresh and restored. Well actually still not 100% but you never let it get you down.
Shoulders, Back, and Abs today. w00t w00t.
Location: Peterson Event Center
Self Status: Sniffles are annoying.

6:30PM Workout 2 of 2 for Monday 2/13/06 - 2.5 Hour Session
Well, I surprised myself. I didn't even think I was going to shred tonight let alone go freaking OFF!!!!!! I kicked with Jake Milofsky. He repped too. Lots of midstring torques and nice long runs. As for me:
-Lots of above average length strings
-Blurry drifter>Fog
-Fairy paradon (BSOS)
-SOOOOOOO close to Blurry torque (BSOS)
-Spikehammer>Fusion
-Surge (Both sides once I tried again in my apartment)
AND HERE COMES THE BIG ONE!!!!!!!!!
-FLURRY > SMOKE > FLURRY > SMOKE
I'm so pumped about that!
Location: Pitt Classroom
Self Status: Grrrrrrrrrrrreat!
Leg Status: Battered and Bruised
Sidebar: How's this for your average day? Tomorrow I plan to wake up at 6AM and run to the side of a kid who is attempting to bike for 24 hours straight. Then after work, learn kung fu from a Wing Chun Master whom I just made a random acquaintence of mine. HAHAHA. Love it!
