Post by save.cullen »

My name is Brett, and I am one of the few North Redondo foot soliders.

I've been attemping to play footbag now for at least 4 months, and I can't say that my progress has been amazing. My tiltless foudation is there, but lacking when it comes to strings. Clippers are there, but again weak when it comes to strings.

I shred with David Morawski everynight basically, my girlfriend calls us boyfriends. He's savage.

Anywho, to start off with a bang; last night was real fun. Had a session with david and mark in marks carport. David hit a lot of cool shit including a fatty paradox mirage, and paradox illusion. Then he one-uped himself and busted a paradox symp mirage.

I tried to get at least 10 contacts with at least 1 of the following:
smear, pixie leg over, pixie pick up, or terrage(pixie same side mirage?)

needless to say at this point i could only manage to pull off: mirage>legover>pixie>terrage

David and I have been trying to deceide what to send in for our sick one and sick three. He has two great videos, but I still have no idea what to do. I am hoping for pixie pick up>symp pixie>smear.

Anywho, will be drilling leg overs, pick ups, flipside mirages, illusions, flipside pixie sets, and clippers for a while next session.

Peace.

Had a small session with Dave and Sanne, nothing special to note. Pixies are looking better. Tried for a while to hit smear>terrage, and wouldn't even consider myself footing it.

hope to have that down next session.

Hey. Hope to see you at the Santa Cruz tourney in a few months. Until then:
1) a terrage is done without planting the foot that does both dexes. If that foot plants, then you are hitting a pixie same side mirage. If your foot stays in the air and the dexes are done in the double around the world style, then the trick you are hitting is terrage. Good luck with your sick 1 and sick 3.

Sessions at metlox with Sanne and Dave. Didn't play well.

Thanks for the note, and I have been hitting that without droping my setting foot. I kind of just pixie it up, and do a pixie move like you see fletcher do (or taught fletcher to do.)

Another short session with dave on the tennis courts. Was in a awful mood becuase of some bad news / stress from work and school; needless to say that yeilded quite the shitty sessions. Anyone else notice how bad you play when you are thinking about other stuff? Anyway, hope to have a session tonight.

I took some pictures of my shoes. Just mod'ed out some pumas i bought a while back at a thrift store, any comments? They seem to be interesting, it's just hard to get used to not having the toe walls from the lavers... not to say i need them =/

Anyway, here are the pictures.

It's been a few days, but the shreding hasn't stopped.

Had a rad session with Sam and David the other night at Metlox. I dont know if it was the new Abshire-mini Sam got, but I feel my string consistancy was the best it has ever been; things just seemed to flow very well with few errors. It also seemed as if I had to use a lot less energy -- as if i could move slower.

Anyway, best string I had that night

mirage>legover>mirage>pixie>mirage>illusion(i never hit these, props to fletcher)>pixie>symp pixie>symp mirage

At the end of the session I was in the mood to try some sick three action, but after I landed the first two tricks, I just caught the bag. I dont know why.

terrage>symp pixie

fun game.

I mean pixie move. If I mean a pixie set, i'll try to articulate it according to the trick. Basically the only pixie tricks I have hit are Pixie Legover, Pixie Pickup, Smear, backside symp smear (few times), Dimwalk (first time tonight) and Terrage.

Anywho,

Session tonight with David on his deck who has a new addition; we stole 5 4x4 foot rubber mats from the local playground. Eat shit kiddies. The session was fun, had a few good 5-10 trick strings that included symp mirages / symp pixies, smears, and terrages. I am very pleased with my recent upgrade in string consistency and right pixie sets. I am really hoping I muster up the energy to deal with disappointment again when re-learning pixie sets on the left side. Then there is the problem with the clippers, but I am slowly realizing now I have tons of tiltless work to do.

I appreciate the comments.

Peace

Interestingly enough, I can't shred them at all. I must be too used to lavers or something. It's not the fact that they dont have toe walls really, I think that the "sweet spot" for the toe is just too far down. Or maybe the toe is too pointy.

Moral of the story is basically I bet anyone who shreds with climacools would like these, but as a novice footbager who started with lavers, they are not too fun.

Shrug, they are great for kicking.

It has been a few days since I have written, but I have been shredding none the less. Had 2 good sessions with david before that bitch left me to shred with funk and grom. I feel my strings getting stronger and more consistant every day.

Tonight I kicked with Sam and my girlfriend. Sam brought my valentines gift up from san diego (thanks to rich for the filler as well); a sweet ass new bag he stitched. I'ts quite prime imo. It has allowed me to see how well 32's set in comparison. Furthermore, it, or whatever, has allowed me to be much more smooth when adding smears, terrages, and dimwalks into my strings.

Anywho, i've been challenged to have left pixie sets down by tomorrow night. I better get to work.

Peace

Savage 2 1/2 hour session with Sam and Sanne.

Tonight I just got in the mood to finally be able to hit illusions, and for some reason it worked.

some things to note:

7 strong side illusions
4 flip side illusions

5 strong side mirage>illusion
3 strong side mirage>illusion

mirage>illusion>legover>mirage>illusion>legover repeat

dimwalk>clipper mirage>symp mirage>legover>mirage>pixie>symp mirage>smear>terrage

I am really pleased. Still need to work flipside pixie sets, mirages, and illusions.

My clippers are so weak.

peace

First off, hilarious blog title  That cracked me up when I saw it. Secondly, like the pumas. It looks like you managed to pull off a clean mod there. I admire your progress thus far, and you seem to be going right along with the traditional drill and shred path that we all must follow. Keep up the good work, look forward to reading more. Congrats on the new strings.

Mid-day drilling session with Dave on the stolen playground mats.

Fun times drilling:

pixie>pixie>pixie>pixie>pixie>pixieix>ieixi>eixie>xieixi>eie

mirage>illusion>legover>mirage>illusion>legover

pickup>pickup (dave kicked my ass, his are looking good)

left pixie sets (looking a tad better everyday, there was one freak set that went perfect, so I miraged it and hit my first clean flipside smear.)

anywho, thanks for the note shredzilla. i know there is a little NPH in all of us.

Had two sessions with funk, david, sam, and sanne. It's so damn fun to play with everybody. Anyway, nothing really fun to note. Had some good strings and worked my clippers/flipside pixie set.

new moves:

clipper>mirage bsos
clipper>symp mirage both sides
clipper>far legover both sides
ps mirage strong side

hope to shred tomorrow with dave, sam, fletch, and chad.

peace.

Went down to San Diego today and played with Jeremy and Fletcher, both of whom were down from Santa Cruz, and Rich and Jason who both live right on the beach. It was great to see what happens to your game after 10 years of playing - - nice to meet you guys =p

I learned a lot about footbag today.

Didn't hit anything new, just drilled stuff like I always do.

Clippers and butterflies are looking better everyday.

shred hard.

Hard shred tonight. It felt nice to sweat a lot.

Went to Lincoln with Dave and started off with some good warm up kicking/stretches. After the warm ups I felt the desire to work the annoying ATWS. Dave says I do them too much like a pixie, but I'm sure it'll work it'self out. I worked moves into weird strings and tried to keep them as consistant as posible. I chose to do only 2 add moves in the begining, then, if I did well, I would allow myself to work pixie moves. My flip pixie is still really bad, but coming along somewhat. My strong is, in my opinion, looking better. I did a few pixie pickups and smears, and tried to do them flipside and failed. Whatever.

Anywho

ATW(in/out)>mirage>illusion>pickup>ATW(in/out)>mirage>illusion

illusion>illusion>illusion>illusion>pickup>illusion>illusion>illusion>illusion

The major string I practiced was:

pickup>mirage>illusion>pickup>mirage>illusion repeat

pickup>mirage>illusion>pickup>mirage>illusion>pixie>mirage>illusion>pixie >mirage>illusion

I only managed to pull this last one off once, but I hope to have this as a warm up by the next few weeks or so.

It felt really nice to have consistency

peace ya.

smear>pixie pickup felt nice too.

Super 2 hour session with David tonight. Went to Lincoln and started from page one.

kick, stretch, strings, stretch, drills.

Kicking went really well. I noticed I wouldn't kick as well as I do if I hadn't watched big add chad as I was growing up (in footbag).

There are 5 main stretches we do, and for each leg I time the stretch by breathing in and out 15 times.

Strings went well too. I had many 10+ contact runs with illusions, mirages, pixies, pickups, and legovers - sometimes bsos.

Drilling was probably the most fun. Dave and I raced to 15 pickups. After a while of sucking, Dave found a key to victory. The key was dexing it right behind the knee. After we practiced this for a while, I got to 17, and he got to 22. We then moved to legovers. He landed 19, and I landed 17.

Overall it was quite the super session.

Might take the day off tomorrow, my legs are like taffy.

Probably won't.

peace ya

2 nights worth of writting:

Monday night we found this choice ass board room to shred in. It has wonderful air flow, and nice carpet. Needless to say it brought out some fat shred. I have been working my flipside pixie sets, and it is only now starting to pay off. Anyway, I love this new shred spot, I sweat like a king. I feel like I am really working hard.

New moves.

smear bsos
pixie legover bsos
pixie pickup bsos
pdx mirage bsos
far legover bsos
double around the world (right - in/out)
strong dlo

and, footed a flip dlo.

really pleased with how i've been rolling.

Dave is rocking as well, his clippers are looking better everynight. Once he learns how to not pull his left clipper for far legovers, he'll be choice.

shred hard.

It's been a while. My shins hurt.

Haven't been shredding as hard as i'd like. I don't know exactly what is going on, but I have an idea. The fact that I started doing really well in my tiltless game gave me the energy to try some harder moves, like the ones in my last post. But, right afterwards, I didnt take the time to drill those newly learned moves because I was busy with collegeapplications and shit.

Anyone live near Lewis and Clark College, University of Puget Sound, University of Redlands, or University of Colorado at Boulder?

Anyway, I've been having sessions with dave sam and sanne here and there. Nothing really cool to note, other than practicing diving and ducking for fun. I really would like to toss that into my game.

What I really should be doing is clippers. I just dont have the motivation to learn them by myself..I really want someone there to just tell me how to do them. Which, I believe dave would do.

Any tips on shin splints? I see this turning into a problem.
