RCS IN DA CLUB
word
word to all.
I just wanted to post and say hi to everyone. I am back down in New Orleans now, been here for about 2 months now, and life is slowly (but not entirely) getting back to normal. I've been playing a lot again recently, and I can see myself improving, which is always good. I now am going "tiltless," which if any of you kicked with me during my brief stay in Seattle, you know that that's improvement! Actually, when I finally started to go tiltless I started playing way more often. It is so much more fun to string stuff together like that. So with that in mind, my sets are becoming much more clean, and I now feel that I have some sort of flow, rather than just random moves that have no forward thinking direction.
Its sad being back down south, though, where there is really NO footbagging scene. A big help was just observing you guys at the Y and trying to see exactly what the movements are. Now, when I'm trying to hit moves I just have to kind of guess how the movements are supposed to go until I find a motion that works. Wish I could transplant myself back to the north west for a little while, I'm sure it would help my game drastically. I did just meet one kid, though, who has got skills over me, so hopefully he will be able to help.
As of now, I am hitting consecutive butterflies. my clippers are now stronger on both sides. I've hit over 15 consecutive on each and 10 alternating. I drill Legover-mirrage-repeat. And that is really helpful. I hit paradox mirrage on both sides now. paradox pickup on my strong is consistent. I am struggling with osis, which I really wish i had you guys to help me out on. Starting to learn pixie sets, which I feel is really key to start moving on. And I can't figure out how to hit a god damn drifter. its really pissing me off. I can't keep it outside my leg.... so I do it wrong, and its harder... But out of trying to do that i think i hit my first 4-add move. Which made me explode in excitement and is the basic reason for writing this message... I went right clipper>same in (dex) (pdx)> op out (dex)> op clipper (x-bod) (delay). So a drifter that i put a butterfly in at the end instead of keeping it outside my leg.... anyways. I hit it twice! Wahoo!
Any tips on Pixie, Osis, and drifter would be greatly appreciated. I hope all is going well with you guys, and don't drown in all that rain! I couldn't believe that shit! But i guess you guys are used to it. Blessings from the south.
Peace and Smiles,
Dan

Hey Dan! Great to hear from you, man!
I hope all is well down there.. I can't imagine what it's like right now. I'll pass it on that you said what's up to the others who don't read modified, though. It'd be great to see you again at some point if the chance ever presents itself.
As for footbag, it sounds like you're progressing nicely! Don't get discouraged, some of the best have had to make most of their progress playing alone. If anything it will leave you with a style that is uniquely your own and uninfluenced by the status quo of footbag.
The move you hit was a dada curve. I could give you tips on how to hit drifter, but I would imagine if you get good at dada curve you'll soon have enough control over what your legs are doing during that motion to make it a drifter. Drill your basics, but try everything you can! Scan through videos (flipsider.com and hackrifice.com have some of the best single move repositories of videos) and try what you see. Some things will come more easily than others but eventually you'll build up the coordination to more soundly attempt what really draws you.
Peace, and best of luck resituating yourself down in New Orleans.

Can't Wait for this weekend!!! Call me, I got a spot for Sunday (at red's gym) and possible a spot for saturday (PSU) both of which are right off the max line. After you call me we can set up a more definite location and shred time. Peace RCS!

yay! i'm healthy again! No more sickness! Except for a stuffed up nose. hah. good times.
I played for about 5 minutes yeterday, then got a call from an old buddy. Good times. I haven't seen that kid in ages.
Anyways, session wasn't to bad. Clippers are still getting there more and more. I still haven't gotten butterflies good with this whole clipper thing though... freaking knees together.
I hit magellan flip yesterday, and almost hit it bsos! w00t! And hit flip tap in pants before i left. yaaaaaaay.
i'm getting a bloody nose for some reason... that isn't to good.

Happy 1 year birthday RCS blog... hah.
So i feel that my tiltless runs are pretty well now... clippers in climas still are a bit weird, but i'm still very slowly working on them. Then there are illusions which are VERY SLOWLY getting there. I haven't really posted to much due to school taking time, and forgetting to come here and post every little thing.
Anyways, after a session tonight, i plan on working clippers and illusions ONLY. Then get as far as I can in that tilt run i need to(page9 in blog), then start working BOP again!!! yaaaaaaaay.
Thats about it.

Friday was crazy after school. I went to the mall with some homies, and had some Panda Express. Talked about college and went our seperate ways. While waiting for the bus, some young skater kids came around and started skating a little. Then they got yelled at by a security car. Funny shit. 3 minutes later, 2 of them start fighting eachother! One almost hit the other with his skateboard, and yeah. I just laughed.
Yesterdays session was kind of eh. It was sunny outside, but i wasn't feeling up for the walk. So I kicked indoors. Nothing to much went. I kept getting close to the table and the t.v., so i stopped. A big highlight was ripwalkx6 in my old 520s, second try. the last 2 were really sloppy thoug, it felt like.
Today was epicness. And I now learned a lesson. I don't like kicking on carpet... Especially this lame ass carpet I have. Anyways, highlights:
Pixie same clip>Far legover>rpt afew times
pixie pickup>mirage>rpt
pixie legover>illusion>rpt
Pixie clip>pdx mirage>rpt
lots of tap. on both sides.
footed atomic legover
Bubba BS! woooooo. expect BSOS soon
Lots of butterflies too. They are getting easier and easier now.

The Update
This last weekend I was down in Portland on special business (birthday business para mi compadre). While there, I managed to squeeze in a session with the crew. By squeeze I mean horde a chunk of Saturday over to footbag. Nick, Noah, Red, and Jaime Scheffler were all in attendance and a good time was had by all. No one was really on, which was a shame as Red had no reason to film. Noah nearly broke himself on whirl two times in the first ten minutes of him warming up which was shitty because it upset his game for the rest of the day, but it was also pretty funny. Nick laid down his overly enthusiastic attitude and amazing (even for a bad day) shred. Of interest was Red and Noah remarking that I play like Justin with my long strings. I'll take that as a compliment.
Jaime was really fun to kick with. I met her briefly at SJFF but didn't get much of a chance to kick with her. She proved to be very cool and is apparently moving to the Seattle area in the summer. Hopefully this will motivate some of the other Seattle shreditas to come out and rep!!
Footbag in general is good as always. I've resigned myself to not really caring about getting really good. Even though I wasn't really ever that gung-ho about shred - at least skill-wise - it really helps me laugh when I drop something instead of getting down or pissed off. As for what I'm working on, I'm taking some time to try and solidify a lot of my basics and smooth them out. I have a lot of consistency with them, it just needs to be turned into strong consistency. On top of that DC hooked me up with a lot of incredibly enlightening and valuable tips on my game and how to improve my style. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a handful of productive sessions in Costa Rica followed up by snorkeling and swimming. I hope I can show Justin and others some improvement when I'm back. After Costa Rica I'll have missed three weekend sessions, and two midweek sessions! First time in a while that that's happened!
Peace, blog!

Damn you Sam. Going all over the place. I know a kid who is going to Costa Rica soon.... I don't know when exactly though.
Today, I am going to the Alderwood Boys and Girls club, to see if me and some friends can use the facilities there to have a kicking place indoors. I was starting to trust the Winter weather, what with 4 days of perfect sunny weather...But it snowed yesterday.... Damn Washington weather.

I still hate kicking on carpet. It brings out the worst in me... If only it weren't shag-ish....
Lots of illusions last night.
worked a bit on flipside stepping, since it has gone to hell.
mirage>legover>mirage>legover>rptx5
lots of clippers.... I don't think I dropped a single one
Thats about it. I'm out.

Keep it up RCS! Butterfly consistancy is sooooo important in my game, cuz after learning how to get good crank on butterflies, it translates into whirl and drifter and osis, and anything spinning. Way to go!

Yeah, Butterflies were huge for me, but when i switched to climacools, i've had to re-learn everything to work on my form. Its all working incredibly well. w00t.
Another sunny day outside=another outdoor session most likely.
what i'm working on today:
Butterfly>pdx mirage>rptx4
Osis b2b
More BOP all together
atomsmasher bsos(maybe b2b)
ducking clipper b2b... alot
illusion>legover>rpt alot.
incorporate more 3s than usual. Since my tiltless game is better than it has been.... ever
more atomics.
more stepping... especially on flipside

w00t to danny! Down with the shred, I wish that I could play more, the people at work told me to stop... f***ing tards. It's waaaaayyyyyy too cold to shred outside now. the last time I played was that epic shesh with Nate and Ashley. Keep up the good work danny, and I'll be checking in more frequently now that work is slow... unless they block modified as well

hah, that would suck if they blocked it at your work. They blocked it at my highschool because i always downloaded videos whenever i skipped. Now i'm in college though, and they don't care
After I posted that post yesterday, it got crappy outside, so i started playing with my Diabolo that i'm borrowing from a homie... good stuff.
Later that night i did some screwing around and footed paradon 2nd try on my good side... 5th try on flip... craaazy. I need to try that out next time i kick.

Rainy days=lame. I think my friend is done with his senior project, so i'll be able to use his basement
But, since I wear my 300's usually, i still try stuff out.
diving clipper>ducking clipper strongside
diving clipper ONCE on flipside
I had another little barefoot seshy yesterday. Magellan flip. Then tried it in climas and hit pixie same illusion.... craaazy stuff.

I was doing clippers yesterday in my room, and for some reasons my knees hurt. Probably because I haven't had a serious session since sunday, or maybe the fact that I don't wear those shoes anymore. I'm gonna try and shred today though.
Just to blog, i did a little juggling demonstration today. Did afew Diabolo tricks, then did some 3-ball stuff. I did a little footbag, with no pain in my knees, but it was in the 300's, so meh. I am probably going to do a demonstration tomorrow, or show everyone some old school RCS videos. Good times.

This blog is so quiet without Sam... hah.
So, after playing in the Climacools for the past...while I suppose, I have decided to switch back to the 520's until I order a pair of lavers. The climacools aren't working out as good as I thought. They had a good run, but I think I am gonna have to give them back to Potter. Luckily though, after playing in them for awhile, and going back to my 520's, a lot of my tiltless game has gotten easier and more flow-ier. Also, my clippers are very controlled now.
Session highlights so far:
clipper>op clipper>rpt up to 40ish
Waaaaay lots of BOP. Its gonna be awhile until i'm used to that again.
Things I am going to work on for the rest of the night:
Stepping: It isn't as easy as it was now. It used to be my easiest set!
Atomics: Still needs a lot of work. Can barely atomsmasher flip.
Whirls: Need to learn them/master them
Drifters:Need to learn them/master them

Today I sessioned in the second floor balcony of the house we're staying in. The view is incredible. It looks out over two bays with beautiful beaches and towns full of great people and really cool houses and shacks. In addition to that the view encompasses a forest full of trees of a multitude of colors. The overall affect was very panoramic.
The place I played was one of the best places I've played in before. A smooth, although hard, surface, about 10'x10'; warm weather (played from 5:00-6:30 or so, so not too hot), with a cool breeze that didn't mess up the bag's trajectory; lighting that lit the area up fairly well once the sun went down with a fan above: all in all, pretty nice.
I felt amazing today, and I think that's because over the past several days in a fair amount of my free time I'v been analyzing the German crew (Cronjaeger mainly) in attempt to guide my style to where I want it to be. Needless to say because I've been thinking about what I want to do so much a lot of it came naturally. Some of my subconcious habits are changing with concious effort, which is good.
I played with my footfighter today which after being washed, dried out, and then put in my luggage for a day or two was very choice. I didn't hit much so to speak but a lot of the moves I've been working on engraining are becoming much more... engrained.
I came close to two drills I've been working on.

Sessioned again on the second floor balcony. Having gotten a lot of other exercise in, coming in the form of swimming, I felt particularly on today. This and the last have been some of my best and most productive sessions. I really worked on hitting some new and creative links today and surprised myself somewhat. None of them were all that difficult, but they aren't the sort of combos I usually hit and I think that may be one of the problems with my game. I tend to approach shred as the need to bsos as many different new concepts I'm working on as possible and end up with long strings with different bsos moves and filler for the rest. I think working these new original combos will really help my game in a lot of ways.
As for the drills I worked on, they all felt pretty good. Hopefully I'll hit them in within the next few sessions and then expand my drill vocab such that it encompasses the style changes I'm working on. Once I can hit these different drills easily warming up will just consist of going through my collection of drills with correct style and form.
