I was looking New Moves thread and became to wonder...
When can you say that you have a trick. I think we all agree that barely sealing it once is not enough. Or is it? Or must one be able to bust it in a circle to a run on command?
Answer the poll and discuss.
When do you own a trick?
I think the thread title and the poll title are asking two different things.
When do you own a trick? While you're executing the move you expect that you're going to hit it. Basically when hitting the move is no longer pushing your limits but just adding filler to your shred.
When do I say that I can hit a trick? Long before I've even hit the trick actually. I can hit a lot of moves that I haven't even tried before. Most everything is within the realm of possibility, therefore I could hit it if I stuck to it.

I don't really think there is a definite answer for this question.
I tend to often say "I have hit that move" - in responce to the question "can you hit this?" - which is to say that I've hit it, but if you asked me to show you I don't know if I could or not. There are moves that I can and often do hit on demand and in the middle of runs as well which I defintely wouldn't say that I "own" them. Your Mom is a good example - I can hit that in the middle of fairly difficult fearless combos and definitely on demand but it still feels like a hard move for me - even if I can hit it first attempt most of the time.
I guess the moves I would say I own are the ones that feel fairly effortless to hit. Something like whirlygig is a move I own - because I feel really comfortable hitting it - it doesn't feel hard at all.
So my answer is: - you own a move when you feel like you own it.
I see Johnnies point about the word "can" and agree somewhat although that's no the definition I tend to use in that context. There are certainly plenty of moves that I know I could hit fairly easily but that I never have.
