Today was a huge awesome step forward for the footbag shoe project too!
We went and toured the shop of a shoe cobbler and talked to him about the various aspects of the project. It was so amazingly encouraging, I talked to him about all the things I wanted done and he made it all sound so achievable!
On Friday Matt handed over to me the 3 pairs of CT 300's that I ordered to him to use for the base model of the footbag shoe. I took in a pair to show the dude and he seemed to totally know what he was doing and how we could do the things I was describing.
We are going to be using facile combined with a high-strength backing as the initial surface material! Facile!
On Thursday I am going in for a 1-on-1 session with the shoe dude and he and I are going to actually create the footbag shoe!! So like.. as of this week I am going to be playing in a custom made footbag shoe. YESSSSSSS.
I havn't written about it yet but the performance with Adam Greenwood and Matt Cross went INSANELY well!
I will blab about it more when I have the video. It was so sick!

Here's how the Toronto show with Matt and Adam went down.
Peng and I took a train from Kingston to Toronto Friday afternoon. We got into Toronto and took another train to Oakville where my family lives. Basically right away we got in the car and drove back to Toronto (yes, a very 'efficient' route plan
) and after some semi-confusing directioning from greenwood we found our way to his residence.
We parked and got a little settled in his res room while waiting for matt to arrive. Matt showed up shortly after we did and he brought me the 3 pairs of new balance CT 300's that I ordered! woo hoo!
The four of us headed out to the place where a group would be shredding while matt, adam and I did our performance and dropped Peng off with the people that were already there.
When we got to the venue we had to have our bags searched, I had forgotten to remove a bottle of beer from my bag and the security dudes hassled me BIG TIME for having it, they were CERTAIN that I was trying to sneak in a single beer.
Eventually we got in and got to see the event site. It was a bar/club place that had a brightly lit stage and lots and lots of breakers practicing around the sidelines.
When we first stripped off our clothes and started warming up we instantly had a big group surrounding us flipping out!!
Nobody really knew why we were there, but soon enough they would figure that out.
We played for a while and got really warmed up and had a great shred. Eventually they started the competition portion of the event.
I was really impressed with the overall vibe of the event. I had the impression that the breakdance community was generally negative and battle oriented and full of big egos but it became clear quite quickly that everyone was really positive and supportive and enthusiastic about what they do and about eachother.
After each 'battle' the competitors would shake hands or hug or whatever but it was clear they all respected eachother and the hard work it took to get where they are. Really cool!
As the time for us to go on stage neared I started getting a little nervous, we were about to go on the stage of the Canadian Breakdance Championships and play fucking hacky sack for them! hahaha
We had our 'show' casually planned and we knew basically what we were gonna do. They called us up and we took the stage, matt grabbed the mic and introduced us as 'Bag Rep Posse' er something and we got things started.
It was basically exactly like the 'How to do a performance' explanation matt has written out before but it was far more exciting than I could ever have imagined it to be.
Greenwood went up first and did some kicks and toe stalls and a few insides.
Then it was me doing some tiltless.
Then matt doing some light guiltless and ripwalks.
Then we did 2 or 3 rounds of straight up shred.
The crowd went FUCKING NUTS for us!!!
I really don't remember much of the tricks we hit though. I remember at one point I hit a paradon and the crowd loved it so in my final string I hit a barfly that made them errupt and I ended the show on my other barfly to a handcatch and they blew up! To add to that my good ending string was charged up by matt's string right before it that he ended on PS whirl which of course made the crowd explode!
Oh yeah, they also really liked my big floaty symp whirl and ducking clipper back to back.
I only realised less than a minute before our performance that I had no video tapes for my camera so I had to bail on recording it but Greenwoods buddy said that they got it from two different angles and that we would get to see it.

After the performance we got off stage and they gave us free shirts and shit.
We stayed for a little more and at some point a dude was doing beatboxing and matt couldn't resist the urge and he ran up on stage and blew everyones minds to little bits again by doing beatbox on the mic and shred at the same time!
After the event we went to where people were shredding and played for many many hours.
Jorden was there too, he's really really good at footbag. I feel really lucky to get to play with him so often, he's positive and really smart and VERY footbag inspired, he comes up with unheard of shit ALL THE TIME!!! There has never been a more creative player than him, I promise.
He can do all the standard hard shit with ease and he spends alot of the time just making up new shit that totally doesn't exist yet. He was doing crazy combos involving monsters.. fucked up stuff.
blah blah blah, lots of shred and fun stuff happened.
We all went to Billy's house afterwards and stayed up smokin' and drinkin' until 5:30 AM or so.
Good times.
Uhm.. there was kinda a shred the next day but my legs were dead so I stayed out.

my fingers are tired.
I am gonna go take care of my sick girlfriend, I gave her a cough so I feel kinda responsible for looking after her in her weakened state. Also... I like being a good boyfriend that takes good care of his little lady.

I had a pretty good shred last night with Derrick.

The other day there was a party at my house, the best party that has ever happened at my house. The really wierd part of it for me was that it was the first party at my house that I didn't organize, Jared did all the work and promotion and all that jazz.
I wasn't able to book off my dishwashing shift the night of the party so I wasn't supposed to arrive until midnight but I got lucky/unlucky when Peng called me from the hospital telling me she'd gone into emergency with breathing problems. I was let off work early, at around 9 or so, and headed to comfort my little girl, I got to the hospital just as she was leaving, so it was pretty great timing.
When we eventually got to the party I was really impressed with the professional look of what Jared had pulled together, there was a DJ spinning records, a drumkit set up for a live performance, beer and shots for sale and there were people!
A while later after the place had filled up with all the coolest Kingston indie people this crazy one man band dude named Mississippi Grover took the stage. His right foot played the bass drum, left foot slammed a tambourine against a snare drum, arms working a guitar and mouth doing harmonica and vocals! He was awesome and totally got us dancing and it was like nothing Ive ever seen before.
After his set the DJ's tossed up some fun music to wiggle to and a great big dance party happened in my living room!
We even got Derrick dancing! hehe
After a period the next act came up and made it clear they were ready to start. One of the dudes announced that we should all take a seat on the floor because they had something a little different for us. I don't know what else in the world ISN'T different from the first act!
They then each took turn reading aloud some bad ass poetry which I didn't see coming.
The bands name is The Fugitives from Vacouver, BC and they were so incredibly talented, there was one dude on guitar, a chick that played some thingy at some point, a dude on an accordian that could sing like no other and this other crazy dude with a harmonica that did beatbox at the same time. They had the most amazing chemistry! Beyond the instruments they played they all sang and most rapped and they all did some poetry at different times.
They were all around in the crowd at different times in the show, the natural accoustics were amazing, most of the time all of them were unmic-ed. At more than one point they had us all sing along with them and it was so fun!
When their set was done the dancing recommenced and it went on till past 4 AM.
What an awesome time!!
Oh yeah, and before the first act went up, before people were really dancing or anything, Derrick and I had a shred session and people totally dug it!
I hit fairy ss drifter BS and tapping drifter and a bunch of solid strings, gooood times!
I had no idea how good this party was going to be, I am almost certain I have never seen a live performance as amazing as The Fugitives before, and the best bit is that it all happened less than a foot away from me in my own frigging living room!
Everyone should go check out www.kingstonfootbag.com , Peng (especially) and I have done alot of work on making the website sweet. Last night we put up every single KFM video ever (well.. nearly) with a description of each one AND song credits, I almost never give song credits. You all should go check it out, it's real slick and you can update your KFM video library.
