trying to write these damn jobs

Post by Tim »

What exactly would this be?

The footbag is delayed on the outside of my left foot. I go up with it and as it's going up (uptime eh?), I bring that same left foot counter clockwise around it (same out dex??), and then land it on an opposite side clipper (op clip?).

So uhhhh....

outside set > same out dex > op clip???

I hope I'm getting the hang of this.

Also a double around the world according to footbag.org is:

TOE > SAME IN [DEX] > SAME IN [DEX] > SAME TOE [DEL]

Which is a three add move, got it!

I can't do a regular DATW, but I can once in a while land an outside one which is...

outside set > same out dex > same out dex > same outside del???

Is that right? Still three adds, no?

Oh and is there anyway to know if something is performed during the uptime and write it like that? Or am I just suppose to figure it out as to what is physically possible?

Thanks ahead of time!

Aslong as there is no delay in between the 2 dexes then that is a outside set DATW

Sounds like a REVERSE WHIRL to me. 3 ADDS. If the dex was in-to-out it would be a regular whirl. Good job! :)

Yep that's a DATW just done from an outside set with an outside catch. If you had landed it in a clipper with the other foot, it would be a DOUBLE REVERSE WHIRL, which is 4-adds. Regardless, props on the DATW!

As far as uptime is concerned, it doesn't count for extra adds, but usually you need it to do multidex moves.

Reverse whirl hmmm...

Here's what I don't get. Since I don't set with a clipper, a reverse whirl would look completely different, wouldn't it???

A reverse whirl is
SET > OP OUT [DEX] > OP CLIP [XBD] [DEL]

So let's say I perform a reverse whirl from a clipper set. My right foot is set cross body. I bring the bag upwards. I plant and then bring my OP foot (which would be my left foot) from in to out around the bag. I then finish the move by landing the bag on my OP foot, which would be my right foot cross body! I think I got that...

Now, what I'm doing is this...

OUTSIDE SET > SAME OUT > OP CLIP.

Ah damn it...wait a second. Does OP CLIP mean just opposite side or does it mean a different foot? I hope someone understands what I'm talking about.

My left foot is the only foot that comes in contact with the footbag. I have it set from a left outside delay. Then as I bring my left foot up I go from in to out around the bag, and now I plant me feet (or don't sometimes, is there a difference?). I then take that same left foot, put it cross body behind my right foot and land it on a clipper.

IS this in fact a reverse whirl? And what exactly would an op clip be? Isn't what I'm doing a SAME clip because it's with the same foot???

Haha I'm confusing myself but I think if someone can answer this for me I'll be pretty good.

Thanks!

OK I think Job's notation has you a little confused.

 OP or SAME refers to the move IMMEDIATELY preceding it. SO....

SET > OP OUT [DEX] > OP CLIP [XBD][DEL]

Would we be right toe, left leg out-to-in dexterity, catch in right clipper.
Or............... left toe, right leg out-to-in dexterity, catch in left clipper

So since you are doing everything with your left leg it would be:

OUTSIDE SET > SAME OUT [DEX] > SAME CLIP [XBD][DEL]

I'd have to see that on camera, not sure what that is!!!

Remember that right clipper is your right foot not left foot on right side and visa versa, that used to get me a bit confused.

so Toe>Same in-out DEX>Op Clipper would be

Right Toe>Right toe in-out dex>clipper with left foot on your right side of the body.

pretty close. You're going to get the hang of it.

First of all, the direction of the dex is wrong, according to your textual description it's an IN dex. That's because you bring leg IN towards the center of your body to start the dex. That at least is how I explain it.

Secondly as Iron Cad Ben said: OP and SAME refer to the leg that did the previous component. So if you do the dex with your left foot and delay it with your left foot (that's a clipper on the other side as you day) then jobs would be like this:

outside > same in > same clip.

This doen't really have a name but I've seen it done by a lot of people starting out and it's an outside set same side drifter... well done it's a cool and styly move. Look up videos of Drifters and post here if it looks a bit like what your doing.

Finally you wanted to know if Job's had a way of marking uptime components. Usually you write ">>" between the uptime and downtime components. So you could write your move like this:

outside > same in >> same clip

awesome, thanks for the help guys. I'm really starting to get a hang of everything. The in-out versus out-in is still kinda confusing but what I'm doing definitely looks like a drifter. I can ALMOST do this and really want to land it:

outside > same in >> op out dex > op clip.

hahaha, I hope that in general terms that just means landing the move with a butterfly.

I'll try to get a video of that weird drifter I do next time I'm filming.

Thanks again guys!
