It's weird, cuz everyone I've told about footbag, is already calling it that now. It actually kinda sounds weird to hear THEM say it, just cuz it makes it seem like they know what's up. I usually explain to people "Remember in the 80s when people rode skateboards, but then later on they started doing tricks and it turned into a sport?", and show them how that analogy applies.
I never go into the whole Whammo thing. I know it's a part of the history of how footbag got it's name, but I don't really think it's worth mentioning to newcomers, and it sorta puts a downer on things. To me, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the sport I play.
The only reason I mention this, is because it seems like when most people explain footbag, the Whammo thing is the first thing they talk about. And I guess that bugs me because I consider it unecessary information. Footbag is hackysack evolved.
