Session today with Fletch, Chad, Sam, Brett, and Sanne (in order of appearance). What I thought was going to be a nice sunny day turned out to be a nice windy day. It was breezy, to say the least...which is kind of frustrating when I already have trouble hitting moves.

Hit flail midstring.
Hit eggbeater.
Hit clipper>mirage BSOS.
Hit far legover on my flipside.
Hit strongside butterfly and flipside clipper>mirage in a string.

That's about it.

Hoping to shred in SD tomorrow with Richard Abshire, Jeremy, Chad, Brett, Sanne, Fletch, and whoever else shows....BUT, after that I'm going to school the shit out of my clippers. THEN I'll proceed to drill the shit out of my clipper.

Done and done.

Fletch, Brett, and myself took a fun day trip to San Diego today to play with Richard, Jeremy, and Sam (w/the added bonus of Jason Crook!). We had a really good time (aside from driving...though 20 questions always lessens the burden of a "long" drive).

Talking with Richie is always nice; I think you learn something new with every encounter. That guy truly is a great source of knowledge, not to mention an amazing player.

I was pretty happy with how I played today..though I tired pretty quickly. I think I should give myself the day off tomorrow, so I can recooperate for Wednesday/the rest of the week.

Hit flail twice in a string....it's time to work that on my flipside.
Hit eggbeater in a nice string.
Hit some longer strings in general.

Nothing too special..threw down clipper>mirage BSOS. Hmmm..that about wraps it up.

Goals for this week:
  • Drill clippers like my life depends on it.
    Drill butterflies " "
Short list of goals? Not with the progress I plan to achieve! My toe game is gonna blow by the end of this week; guaranteed!

All over that shiz. Thanks for the heads up.

Just had a session with Brett at Lincoln..duration: ~1.5hrs.

I was well rested since I took the day off yesterday..After watching the video Fletch posted from the 3-day weekend, I realized my posture is terrible! SO I'm reverting back to square one and trying to fix it.

I spent the first half hour or so just drilling clippers (mainly flipside)...but I have the slowest learning curve ever so I couldn't even manage to hit 15 consecutive. I'm pretty confident in my strongside (juxtaposed with my flip, at least), so I guess I'll just have to continue drilling the shit out of my flip.

A word on my flipside clipper: I feel like when I torque my ankle more I fuck it up, and only when I'm not paying full attention to my torque (but rather focusing on the posture of my shoulders and putting my arms in a balanced position). But perhaps when I do pay attention to my torque I forget about the shoulders/balancing arms....After this brief introspection I'll have to remember all the aspects of a proper clipper and see if I have more luck tomorrow.

I feel like my sentences are running on quite a bit. Let me continue this real-time thought stream..

After drilling clippers well and proper, I went for consecutive 2 add moves (but while focusing on posture/a straightened back). As expected, it's a little tougher and I wasn't as consistent, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

After attempting consecutive 2 adds (mirage, legovers, illusions, pickups..all BS) with correct posture, I mixed in more clipper practice, but this time trying a butterfly > consec. clippers.

I'm pretty much going back to basics on everything and trying to refine my form in all aspects of my game. I'm trying to change my pickup form, because I invert (point it inwards) my knee too much, and I think it was causing some pain/tightness. So now I'm inverting my knee less, and bringing my leg forward a bit more. I think it's a lot better, but I'll have to drill it much more so as to commit it to muscle memory.

I hit DLO twice on my flipside. That was a first :) Tried egg about 5 times on my flip..but wasn't too inspired to hit it.

Tried to hit flail and ss flail on my flipside, but it's pretty fucking tough. I try not to curse too much on modified..so that's how tough it is.

I'm really pleased that I'm refining my game..because my shredding in the 3-day weekend video was hideous, not to mention a wake-up call, and I'm surprised no one ever smacked some sense into me.

Until tomorrow.

to be honest i totally never noticed your "zombie like" posture, hell, i mean look at me :)

i think you're thinking about it too hard. just hit tricks!

the one thing i will say is that if you stand up straighter, you're guaranteed to not travel as much. i think being leaned over makes you prone to being thrown off balance.

either way i had never noticed a thing so stop trippin! props on the clips, i think i can only hit 3 or 4 on both sides :)

also props on weakside DLO

Fatty school session tonight at Lincoln with B.

Duration: ~2hrs

Drilled flipside clippers forevverrr. I don't think I hit 15, but they're getting better. Definitely hit over 10 numerous times. Tomorrow I'll hit 15 consecutive flipside clippers 3x during the session. It is my destiny.
My strongside clipper > op clipper is pretty decent, but I can't even hit op clipper from my flip...hmm, I wonder why!

Drilled ATWs a bit as well. I hit ~20 on my strongside-strong direction (out). On my flipside-weak direction I hit ~11.

At the end of the session Brett and I raced to 15 pickups. Really hard! Finally something clicked in my head, and I focused on where I was dexing it...then suddenly everything fell into place. It was a pretty sweet epiphany. I hit 17 then shared the secret with Brett..allowing him to match my record. Shortly after this I managed to hit ~21.

Really, really good session. Brett's game is blowing up, and I'm much happier with the direction mine is going.

Productivity is going through the roof.

Sounds like that should go in challenges, SON! ..Not like I've completed any of those yet though..

Just had a session with Brett and Sanne. I drilled flipside clippers a lot.

Hit 17 consecutive flipside once, then I diverted my attention to other things such as:
  • ATWs..they need work. Balance is such a problem for me when it comes to ATWs, and I'm not sure why.

Mirage x2 >Illusion x2 > Legover > rpt > Mirage x2 >Illusion x2 > Pickup > rpt > Mirage x2 >Illusion x2 > Pixie > rpt ....more or less. Towards the end my brain (and therefore my body) threw in an ATW, but I kept going and finished the drill off.

Tried for Legover > Mirage > DLO > rpt but I failed on my flipside DLO. I'll have to start with that one next time.
Went back to clipper drilling for about 10-15mins at the end of the session. Managed to hit 13 consecutive flipside twice..but I couldn't get >= 15 again! How frustrating is that? ...Very.

Good session..but I need to work on my flipside illusions (among everything else). I tend to drift outwards when attempting them.

Exhausting solo session today..~2+ hours. You know how we do.

Drilled clippers and FINALLY hit 15 consecutive flipside three times during the session...except I broke up each successful run with 15 consecutive on my strongside.

After I deemed my clippers..better, I decided to try some clipper tricks.

Hit clipper>mirage>legover BSOS a few times.

Hit far legover on my flipside a couple times...why are clipper tricks still so damn hard?

I'm putting up some videos in the trick tips so people can dissect my shit.

Also practiced a good drill: legover x2 > pickup x2 > rpt (3x in my case)

That's all for now.

EDIT: Here's the link to the thread which contains a link of my video..(talk about being given the run around)

Jawsome session with Brett tonight (much better than last night's which we won't talk about).
I hit:
  • ((Clipper > Mirage > Legover)) x1.5~
Flip DLO a couple times (though I was trying to hit it BSOS..sigh)
    Mirage>Legover>rpt >= 10 < 15
Illusion>Legover>rpt ...Brett said ~30 contacts, though no one was counting..It was a lot, that's all I know.
    Flip ATW (in-out <weak direction) x16 << Record!
Messed around with DATWs..though to no avail. Brett, however, footed that shit at least twice! He was totally off the chain with pixie sets, smear BSOS..and maybe PLO BSOS. Off. The. Chain.

Fun session..and I forgot to mention the best part: Brett and I wandered into the Community Center in Hermosa to see if we could use the gym, but we ended up finding an empty board room with nice cushy carpet. No one bothered us and it was a great haven from the cold rain.

Just had a session in the Hermosa Community Center board room again (YES) with Brett. Good times 'n' shit.

Uh..I've been working flipside far legovers like mad and I CAN'T STOP PULLING THEM. So yeah..I hit it BSOS a few times, but I pull it so much more than hit it successfully!!!! Fuuuck.. Anyways, hopefully I'll work that out. I just have to concentrate A LOT on the following things:
  • Crank like a mofo
    Exaggerated delay
    WAIT AFTER THE SET!
Keep my opp. arm in the "balance" position.
So..mainly just clipper tips in general..but even when I nail those things I see to pull it. Any tips would be great if any humans are reading this.

Hit flip DLO a few times..got pretty damn close to hitting it BSOS.

Footed flip flail (more than footed, but not sealed with a trick...therefore less than hitting it) a couple times. That's cool..hoping to hit that BSOS in a few sessions from now, though I'd rather have clippers more dialed.

Uh..what else..what else...guess that's all for now.

Must..get..flipside..far...legovers.

your clippers are fine, you're probably rushing the set because you're worried about the legover. if you're setting from your right foot, SET it, pivot on your left and hit that shit.

Thanks, Funk ;) I like that advice. I missed your presence during the session today. Question though..the clipper set should be going to the middle of my body, right? I have problems with that as well.

Played with Sam at the Manhattan pier today for an hour and a half or so.

I'm really unmotivated lately..in all aspects of my life, as well as footbag. I need to get my fucking head out of my ass.

I hit DLO bsos for the first time today. That was cool..but then I proceeded to drop clippers like a little bitch.

Peace.

yeah, you want to try and keep the set in the middle so you dont have to turn so far.. in order to get the set over, maybe more ankle torque, maybe adjust the way you're bringing it up.

Had a good session yesterday with Sam that lasted about 3.5hrs. I hadn't play for a few days since yesterday, as I was giving my knee(s) a good rest.

My knees pretty much feel the same...and it's definitely a minor deal. I don't feel it at all when I'm playing..but, for instance, if Sam would take a long(er)ish turn before passing, I would notice it a bit. It just seems to bother me the moments I'm stationary after movement, or when I'm going up/down stairs.

Anyhow..it was a pretty good session. I think my flipside far legover got imprinted into my muscle memory over the few days I didn't play, because I definitely hit it many more times than I ever had before. It's all about waiting before you even begin the dex.

So, with my flipside far legover a little bit more strengthened, I worked my flipside pdx mirage...Which allowed me to hit pdx mirage BSOS a couple times. I need to hit far legover on my flipside like 40 times in a session though, first, because I still pull both of the moves.

This feels like I'm writing in a very convuluted manner. And I don't know how to spell convuluted. I think that's it.

Worked on fairy>illusion>rpt and pixie>mirage>rpt. Fun drills. Changing my flipside illusion to be a bit more like my strongside, which means opening up my hip more. This almost allows for a more horizontal dex, which I just think looks better. All the while making my ankle "tighter" around the dexes on both sides.

Brett did a little bit of coaching, since the poor fellow can't play at the moment, and was helping me to clean up my mirages (among other things). He believes I should be doing a tighter dex, which looks much better. I'm inclined to agree, so I worked that business.

Yesterday's lesson: it's all about the set. Shitty set, shitty execution will follow.

Time to get my day started..I'm planning to play later today, and hope to drill more far legovers, pdx mirages, and butterflies.

Sweet session with Ben and Sam in the Hermosa board room today! We were there for about 2.5 hours, but it felt like there was only 1.5 hrs of straight shred. Still tons o' fun.

Ben is much better than when I last shredded with him, though he only recently started to play frequently, so he potentially could be much better very soon. The only criticism, which I made very clear to him, was his posture. I let him know I didn't want him learning a terrible habit that I set in stone with my own play until late.

Anyways..flipside far legovers are getting super easy(/ier). The only thing is..I thought once I semi-dialed that set, other moves would become much easier. But I still manage to pull shit like pdx mirage, and bubba is pretty tough for some very odd reason.

I'm getting better and better at stringing tricks together, which is always good..and I think my form is improving quite a bit too.

I need to schedule an appointment with an orthopedist(?) to seek advice on my knee. It doesn't hurt a bit when I'm playing footbag, but it's whenever I'm not that worries me. I want to be able to play footbag for a very long time, and I definitely don't want to permanently injure myself like so many great players before me.

No big highlights..just small changes I'm making from day to day. I don't care that I can't post "big tricks" or strings in bold with pretty arrows. I'm proud to be cleaning up my game for a solid foundation, even if the changes are completely apparent.

Just had about a 2 hour session with Ben, my up and coming superstar friend. I gave him plenty of tips to clean up his form, and help to prevent him making poor habits for the future. He's definitely gonna be a great player if he keeps at it.

Tonight I worked my flipside illusions quite a bit. I have a problem of either setting it poorly, or not opening my hip enough on my dexing leg to make a nice 'leggy' dex.

My flipside far legovers are getting profoundly easier than before, which is finally leading to my pdx mirage consistency. Because of this, I managed to hit pdx mirage BSOS a few times. That was nice :)

Also worked on flipside bubba..but only hit it a couple times at most, and fairly ugly. Just a matter of my clipper set, and improving my flipside illusion.

..Drill drill drill...Icing my knees as I write this. I need to see the doctah doctah.

Session with Sam and Ben today on the Costa track. It gave my Mirken bag an earthy red color. I fixed that though ;)

Fun session. Ben is really coming along (with my help, of course). I'm constantly bitching at him (like I wish people would do to me) to make sure he has a super-solid foundation. So far, so good. Sam is starting to drill tiltless a little more, but he still gets caught up in those "bigger" tricks :P He'll work out the kinks whenever he's ready, which is all that matters.

I threw down some longer strings, though I can do better. Worked on my flipside illusion some more..I find that if I get a higher velocity set from a lower height I have more time to complete the dex and delay it.

Worked my weakest ATW a little bit, and hit it a little over 10 times consecutively (I wasn't counting). I'm pretty satisfied with that, considering I should drill my ATWs much more than I do.

Worked on butterflies a bit..I finally hit butterfly>clipper>infinity BSOS. That was cool (and a first). Every time I do a cross-body set (literally set across my body) from my flipside clipper, I have to relearn the set on a per-trick basis. It's kind of annoying, but I always pull the set on tricks that I'm not used to (such as butterfly and pdx mirage). [EDIT: Note to self for future reference: slow the fucking delay and set down.] That'll change with time though..considering I'm working in more and more of those clipper tricks.

Pixie > mirage > rpt drill is getting much easier..I think my balance has improved quite a bit over these past months. Fairy > illusion > rpt is still awkward as all hell..but I think that's just because fairy is a hideous trick that can only be performed awkwardly. I'm probably wrong, though.

Good session. Good times. I haven't been playing all that often because I'm taking it easy on my knees (which have been giving me some trouble as of late)...they don't hurt now, post-session, which is good. The two tests coming up this week will give them some time off, and then I can shred it up some more.

I love footbag.

Flaxseed oil tastes like shit.
