Why don't you post on .org?

Jeremy OWheel (owheelj) wrote:If you don't like it here you don't have to post here. Feel free to create your own forum where all newbies are banned. Personally I'm committed to the growth of footbag and it can't grow without new players. I'm sure you see the need for this Peter, based on your comment about 2 or more forums being good. That sounds to me like you would just like other people to do all the work, which I guess is the attitude of most freestylers. :?
Joshua Rose (TheVindicator) wrote:I think that he meant moreso there is a lack of freestylers here than it being overrun by newbs [correct me if I'm wrong ;-)]

I prefer Modified because it's more of a community, more freestylers frequent it, and you can edit your posts. The most up to date stuff occurs on Modified. Who knew of Climas first? .org or Modified?
Jeremy OWheel (owheelj) wrote:Who actually runs the world championships, decides the official rules for the sport, sponsors events and gives members unlmiited space to upload footbag videos - the IFPA or modevia?
Joshua Rose (TheVindicator) wrote:But which is more fun to post on? Modified is the freestylers forum-whereas most kids here just like to 'hack', which is fine. But on Modified we like freestyle and we prefer to discuss it. If .org was more enjoyable to be at-we would be here. If they wanted more people to frequent it-they would enact some change to the site.

Modified's cooler
Which do you frequent more? Why?

With tabbed browsing on Mozilla, I am usually always browsing both. Mainly hoping more newbies from my city will materialize on footbag.org so I can have more people to shred with :o

Who cares? ClimaCools aren't an "advancement" of the sport by any means, and knowing about them certainly shouldn't give you bragging rights.

In my ever-so-humble opinion, they are both pretty retarded, as far as the forums go. At least footbag.org has a bunch of other cool stuff on it without the forum.

 i stopped read that thread on .org after i posted. i still stand by what i said. dont know if you will even read this, since you dont post much on modified anymore (im thinking of ditching all the extraneous posting and focusing totally on the sport myself, at very least...), but why should it seem that i "would just like other people to do all the work" when its work towards a goal that i (or other freestylers) dont have for myself or the sport. i dont care that much if footbag becomes 'big' (which will translate directly into commercialized), and i dont expect it to happen anytime soon in any case. my personal goals do involve playing with other people, so to that end i do my own personal work on advancing footbag locally, but thats my biz-nassss. uh, long story short, i like two forums because i dont view the community unifying and the sport becoming commercialized as one of my goals for the sport.

The sad thing about that Modified thread on .org is that within two days it had more posts than most topics on that forum recieve overall :(

I try not to let a newbie's questions go unanswered on .ORG, and also try to let them know if they're in the neighborhood of experienced players. Other than that, I'm not sure if I've made 5 posts there.

Greater frequency of posts on Modified means that I have to visit it more often to lurk properly and be aware. Eventually it became a habit and I rarely check .org because in the time it takes for 100 new posts to accumulate here, it takes 3-5 times longer on .org.

it's an environment thing. If everyone else prefers Modified, then I go along with that because I've made it a habit because more people visit Modified more often, which in turn forces me to visit it more often. It's like a vicious circle!

Why? Because it's full of newbs who just repost stuff about hacky sack and don't respect the same values as people on modified.

Footbag.org is dead, if you don't count Jeremy O'Wheel and the
other newbies. ()

Argh. "Why don't I post so much in the discussion subforum?" Because editing posts isn't allowed.

Sorry.

.org is dead because it seems like nobody gives a crap there. You post a video and nobody says anything, you ask for advice, and you get nothing. What's the point of posting there? It makes absolutely no sense at all to post there under the circumstances when you will have multiple replies usually within SECONDS on Modified! Good stuff.

Seconds is exxagerating it too much. 10 minutes is closer, but that's a really short time for a lot of 'support-based' forum questions/boards. I don't think [H]ardForum posters get responses that quickly based on computer-related queries...though the queries are much more specific and many more of them...Another site I used to browse, HardwareAnalysis (Awesome because it appears as 'Hard Ana' with the addition of subtraction of a few chars based on the desktop size on the taskbar) used to take around a day to get worthwhile responses. If they were ever given, that is.

The least I can say is that the lurking dedication of Modified is impressive!

It's fun to take things out of context.

Just to explain what happened to those who don't read thee footbag.org forums. My responce was in relation to Peter's first post in that topic and I think his first post at footbag.org which just said: "I don't like it here".

The point being if you don't like a forum it's pretty rude and pointless to make a post saying so and it's a little insulting to the people who have put time and effort into running the footbag.org forums. It was not a debate about which forum is better.

Personally lately I've grown to dislike both forums because although I've forged some good friendships they seem to seriously distract people from doing anything constructive for the sport (in general). I still read both because they're the main sources of information for footbag.

i realize im nit-picking, but i had actually already posted twice by the time this response was posted by you:
If you don't like it here you don't have to post here. :?
....and you can clearly see you have already read BOTH my posts, as you responded to specific things i said in my second post, which, while it didnt exactly praise .org, at least explained my perspective on the situation more clearly than "i dont like it here" but, long story short, i dont really give a shit about .org, so i may as well have not bothered posting again. the only context in which i appreciate .org is the fact that it handles a good portion of the newbies instead of them being here...i cant picture myself finding reading all this if some of the thread titles included=
1. chuck taylors
2. what is your hacky-sacking record
3. rate my current shoes
4. dirt bags
5. adidas samba
and finally,
6. Wooo, I hit ATW

no offense whatsoever to the original posters (i recall being twice as stoked when i first hit atw...), but at least .org keeps most of the newbies out of my face until they learn chuck taylors really do suck for footbag. i admire those of you who keep .org running, and answer the exact same questions endlessly, especially as its inifinitly clear that i would NEVER be able to handle that.

I didn't mean to take you out of context, and apologize if I did. I can't edit in the discussion forum so this will have to suffice.

I think PM's and editing are essentially what most people prefer in Modified over .org & the inability to PM kills the community aspect of .org
