It's pretty hard, especially Stepping Refraction
.
Night shifts have been throwing me around these days. I haven't been eating as much and I've lost my motivation to work out. Footbag has almost been the same way too. I'm going to talk to my supervisor and see if I can get put back onto a normal shift, even if it means I'll have one or two days a week of work.
Alright, so I managed a sesh this evening for about 3 - 3.5 hours. I almost lost my mental game when trying to hit Rubberman, but fortunately after all that things started to look up. Not too many highlights but atleast I kicked.
- 28 contact pixie shuffle
- Tombstone > Tombstone on other side
- Blurry Drifter > Blurry Whirl bs
- Atomic Drifter > Blur bs
- Pdx Whirl x 12 (record is 13
)
- Sumo > Legbeater bs about 20 times :/
- Pdx Drifter > Mobius bs
- Blurry Torque nearly bsos (second one was off the foot)
My DLOs seem to be slowly coming back - I hit my drill and managed Fog > Buttefly x 2 (pathetic
). I also worked on stepping ducking for a bit, with some progress in that area.

Now that modified is back up and it's 4:44am, I guess I can post in my blog again
.
Where to start. I will go with the bad, make a transition to the good, and then finish with some footbag...
Alright, so here is the scoop. Wednesday morning I found my cat, Miss Kitty, in our shed with a broken leg. After some X - rays the vet said she also ripped all the ligaments surrounding her ankle and has to be confined to kennel for 4 - 8 weeks. She also has to wear a splint, which she hates just about as much as being cooped up. I let her out about three times daily to eat, drink and sleep on our couch but it seems like she refuses to use the kitty litter box. In her protest she poops in the kennel, forcing either myself or my sister to clean it up.
.
Now my work situation - we are short of orders and one of our suppliers had an accident so as it is right now, I'm not working. I haven't been layed off, but for this week I have no work. Next week I may or may not have any work. The week after will be the same. I might have a shift or two a week, keyword there is might. Basically things will be like this until around April. Now I really don't mind the break but it is going to cut severely into my funds for Germany (that is, if I can even get the time off for it).
Okay okay, one more bad thing. There was plenty of foresight for this downtime, everybody talked about it and so forth, so I thought to myself "Hey Byrin, why don't you just take a mini vacation for a few days? You know, go fly out to Portland or Santa Cruiz or where-ever and just shred your ass off with really cool people?" That was really looking like a sure fire thing, until Wednesday morning when I found my cat
. Now somebody needs to take care of her. My sister is a busy woman, and if I were to leave it to her then she could maybe be let out twice a day for short periods of time
. Atleast now that I'm home I watch a movie while keeping an eye on her.
So right now you guys must be thinkin, "Man, this guy just keeps going on. I don't think I want to read anymore". Well, yeah I don't want to type anymore either
. The good news is that I have a lot more free time. Free time to do free things, in my own style. Free. Time. Style. Free - Style. Hey! More footbag
. Plenty of time to play footbag. That's always good. And maybe I can get my ass to work out too.
Other good news, I'm not financially fucked yet. My aunty needs lots of babysitting down and I'm the right man for the job. Plus I get to spend time with my little cousin and make fun of how he's getting chubby. That little turd even grabbed his jiggly belly and rubbed it against me. That was so gross
. But I love him. His most recent and proud accomplishment was being able to lick his own nipple
.
And I think wraps up the good news. Footbag wise, it seems like I'm still picking the rust off from the little bit of downtime I had whilst working night shifts. What people don't know about me is that even a little bit of downtime really fucks me up. I pick up things pretty quick, but if I don't practice it enough I can lose it just as quick
. That makes it tricky because I want to be good at a lot of different things but I don't want to spread myself too thin. I would much rather drill 6 things in a sesh for 20 minutes each then drill 12 things for only 10 minutes, ya' know?
Anyways, on Sunday I had a good kick. Stepping ducking is starting to get a lot better (though it's still pretty sketchy, make no mistake about that
). Unfortunately it had to end prematurely before I could get into really working on the things that need it, but atleast it was a sesh.
The highlights...
- Stepping Ducking Clipper bs, then bsos
- Alpine Blurry Legover bs, then bsos
- 30 contact pixie shuffle run (just needed Pixie ss Illusion > Pixie ss Illusion damn it
)
- Spike Hammer bsos with Ripped Warrior
- Ripped Warrior bsos
Guess that's it... I'm changin up how I do my sessions a little bit. Now I'm working on drilling ducking the sets that I can already do (Pixie, Stepping and Atomic). So far so good. Nuke sets are getting better, which will be a spicy new addition to my strings for sure.
Cheers

Blog post in 5 minutes.
Tuesday had a good kick. Wednesday played Morrowind for around 10 hours. Thursday played footbag for 4.5 hours, get called into work. 3.5 hours of sleep then back to work. Excited for YMCA.
Workin on Nuetron sets. Feels sweet. New tricks. Poop my pants
. Can't remember a damned thing about any of my sessions
.
- Nuetron ss Clipper bs
- Nuetron ss Pickup bs
- Diving Mirage bs
- Stepping Ducking Clip > Spinning Clip x 2
- Pdx Mirage > Far Rev. Swirl x 2 bs
Good to kick again. Trying to get back my groove. Yesterday helped me do that. Had a new 7 add off my foot. I desperately need new shoes.

Friday's sesh was a lot like Halloween. You know, when you see all that candy go into your bag and it makes you all happy, then when you get home and dump it on the floor thenr ealize that they are mostly candies you don't like? Yeah, something like that. Kevin hurt his ankle again shortly into the sesh
, I was totally not in the groove for srhedding due to lack of sleep and Rory out did me again by not sleeping at all the night before.
Still, Rory and I had a fun game of 'bsos', where we call tricks that we want to see bsos'd by the other person. It was pretty fun and a good break from just shredding. At the end of the session, Rory unleashed his ability to also do Nuetron sets! Holy fuck indeed Batman!
And for the record, when I say Nuetron ss I mean Atomic Gyro. And if I say Nuetron, then I mean Atomic Spinning. Just to clarify
.
- Spinning Rev. Swirl bs
- Gyro Rev. Swirl bs
- Spinning Rev. Swirl > Spinning Osis bs
- Venom on request for Ben
- Nuetron Osis bs
- Mobius > Mobius
- Mobius twice on each side in one string
And these are the tricks that I bsos'd for Rory:
- Pdx Eggbeater
- Alpine Eggplant (was very hard)
- Haze (was very hard)
- PS Whirl
- Muted Pixie ss DLO
- Pixie ss Blender
- Gyro DLO
Rory was on fire for that game. I called tricks that he never even hit before, and he STILL managed to hit them bsos. Totally epic!
I'm thinkin of taking a few days off from footbag since my knees and shin started hurting throughout. Starting today, I'm planning on getting back into working out and perhaps even using our Eclipse (or whatever the machine is) to stay fit.

Footbag has been very unfun these days. I did take the weekend off, and since then whenever I kicked I just worked on BOPs, spinning, ducking and some Rev. Swirly stuff. My shin acted up every session.
Today I was inspired by Mr. Claven's video to make a video myself, but that ended up horribly. I can't do shit, and it's so frustrating. Seems like the footbag-motivation has just dropped considerably, and I'm not going to force myself to have sessions.
That said, I'm going to just not play anymore. The only one exception will be on Fridays so that I can atleast hang out with my two favorite people, Kevin and Rory, but even then I probably will devote most of my time to four square or juggling.
Hopefully this is a short term deal, but if not then I'll have to look somewhere else for a new hobby

It feels so good not feeling guilty whenever I don't kick, or not thinking that I have to kick. After I wrote my last post, it was like a weight came off my shoulders and I wanted to kick again
.
Friday at the YMCA was really fun. I played surprisingly well, considering I haven't drilled my shit in so long. Some really good runs, good links and for some reason double spinning was totally working out for me. Unfortunately my left shin was pretty bad and then later on my right knee really started to hurt. Rory and I kicked for about 2 hours, then we played four square for the remainder of the evening.
- Double Spinning near Mirage bs (Spinning Gyro Mirage? Just like Gyro Mirage but two spins?)
- Double Spinning Butterfly
- Double Spinning Clipper bsos, but I totally fumbled the seal
- Nuke ss Whirl bs (and bsos if my weak Whirl wasn't 'the'
)
- Far Rev. Swirl > Mobius > solid run with good stuffs in it
- Nuke ss Mirage > Muted Atomic Ducking Clipper > decent run
- Atomic Drifter > Blur bs (want to hit this drill
)
- Gyro Whirl > Gyro Whirl... strangely easy
I want to kick again today, but there are two things that are holding me back. The first being that I want to let my shin heal up. The second is that I have a hangover from a company banquet the other night.
Rye and coke flowed like water
. And I'm sure the three beers before and after the banquet didn't help either.
RANDOM THOUGHT FROM BYRIN
Did lots of talking with Reily, a co-worker and really good friend who let me stay at her place for the night, and she is such a wonderful person. Very mature, smart and good looking. Some of the things she told me kinda rekindled a crush I had on another co-worker, but now I don't know if I should act out on it or think nothing of it.
Decisions, decisions.

I always thought that Spyro was Gyro Symposium, not Spinning Gyro (though I think the later makes more sense). To be honest, I haven't heard anybody use the term Spyro since my days at f.org, nearly two years ago.
And to answer your question Kamil, the ShrEdmonton crew is in turmoil about Worlds, and I still don't even know if I have the time off I need to go
. Hopefully things will work out.
After nearly losing my footbag in the pocket of my sweater which was in my dirty laundry basket, I decided to have a reunion sesh. I'm happy to report that the only thing that troubled me was how bad I was - my shin only acted up when I tried doing consecutive Ripwalks
. I think I'll have another one tomorrow, still going light, and then take Thursday off from footbag. Friday we'll see how I feel.
Basically I worked on double spinning (started out good, then I must have been over thinking it because I could not do it anymore), moved on to doing a bit of Diving/Zulu, lots of tilts, some BOPS then went lightly over most of the things I usually do. The highlights:
- Double Spinning Clipper bsos + Double Spinning Osis
- Double Spinning Osis bsos
- Zulu Clipper > Zulu Clipper bs
- Zulu Clipper > ss Clipper > Diving Clipper > ss Clipper x 2
- Diving Clipper > Zulu Clipper bs (that really feels sweet)
- Atom Smasher x 12 (new record, I think?)
- Gyro Whirl x 2
- Mobius > Gyro Whirl
As you have probably guessed, anything that goes above my chest that is not a spin I suck at
. I like the last link a lot.

Yesss!! I have Byrin on something!
Props on the highlights. Mobius>Gyro Whirl is ill.
To clear up spyro... Spyro is an antiquated term that means gyro with a plant. Spyro mirage = a gyro mirage where instead of doing it muted (read: with good form), you plant. There's a topic somewhere that clears up double spinning terms.

Crazy people in my blog
.
I've been playing pretty lightly this week, having 30 minute - 1 hour sessions. Doing all those Diving/Zulu has made my neck really sore these past days, but they are greatly improving! Next week I have a pretty lax week, then work is goign to fire right up again. Word on the margarine line has it that they want to make me full time (+20 dollars an hour = HUZZAH!!).
Today I had a 3 hour session (stretching included), with no shin pains. Since I can't go to the YMCA tomorrow due to work, I will take Friday and Saturday off just to be safe. Sunday we'll see how the resumed shred regime goes...
- Surging ss Mirage bs
- Spinning Nuke ss Mirage (with an attempt of another trick)
- Smudge > Pixie ss Illusion > Smudge > Pixie ss Illusion > Magellan > PLO > Magellan > PLO > Smear > Pixie ss Mirage > Smear > Pixie ss Mirage > Pixie ss Pickup > Paste > Pixie ss Pickup > Paste > Pixie ss Pickup > Magellan > Smear > Smudge > Pixie ss Mirage > Pixie ss Pickup > Magellan > Smear > Smudge > Pixie ss Mirage > PLO > PLO > Paste > Paste > Pixie ss Illusion
- Gyro Rev. Swirl > Gyro Rev. Swirl
- Rubberman x 2 which felt really strong.
- Zulu Clipper > Diving Clipper x 2 (Yay!) > run
- Diving Clipper x 3 almost bsos (but did get it bs after)
- Far Rev. Swirl > Rev. Swirl bs
- Drifter > Pdx Drifter x 6
Some of those are from other sessions, while most of them are from this afternoon. I can't do Double Spinning anymore
, which is messed up but like everything else that comes and goes, I'll take it as I can get it. I should probably start drilling Refractions again. Lord knows I never seem to get around to doing so.

Thanks for the critic Kamil. Rewatching it, I would say that the spin is clean(er) on the first trick in comparison to the attempt at the end, though perhaps not executed with the best technique.
(C'mon, give me a break. It's freakin hard
. )
So like I said, I haven't kicked since Thursday. This evening Rory and I had a sesh outside the studio at the YMCA, which went really well. I felt really solid considering, though my endurance and string length were lacking. My shin didn't act up, so I'm really happy about that! Onward with footbag!
- Nuke ss Symp Mirage bs
- Gyro Double Switch
- Far Rev. Swirl > Far Rev. Swirl
- Zulu Clipper and Diving Clipper bsos (they felt sooo solid in that run
)
- Matador bsos
- Gravedigger bsos
- Vortex x 2 bsos
- Tombstone and Blurry Drifter bsos
- Atomic Drifter bsos
- Blubberman again, first attempt
- Sumo > Legbeater > Sumo
- Pdx DLO > DLO > ss DLO > ss Butterfly x 2 (didn't think I could do this again, but I did - maybe my DLOs will come back? *hopes*)
I came really close to Nuke ss Torque too, which feels like it has the potential to cause spinal damage if you twist too hard. All in all, really sweet! Rory was playing really well too, I can't believe how good he's getting. Watch out for that man!
In other news, I am soo lucky. On Thursday I got winter tires put on my vehicle (better late than never
) and on Friday, we got a blizzard. I'm talking, like, 12 inches of snow in two days. How fucking lucky is that?! On Saturday, my little cousin and I made a snow pile that is roughly 6 feet tall in his backyard. He's going to be busy carving it out and making a snow fort now
.
