Pickups are definitely "easy" considering they're just 2 ADDs. The reason I was asking was not because I can't do them, but rather I'd like to make sure that I'm doing them properly. One indication that I probably wasn't would be the fact that my knee is now a bit injured.
Matt K wrote:oh, and totally unrelated to Pickups, but since we're talking about doing dexes wrong, is it bad to do Pdx Drifters with the dex a bit 'whirl-ish'?(not that i've even got it yet. i might have today but my leg killed after trying them non stop yesterday)
You're right, that's definitely unrelated. So let me redirect you to the IMPORTANT RULES! READ BEFORE POSTING!! thread (easy to miss, I know). I'm sure Erik Chan, who spent a large amount of time organizing this subforum, (and everyone else trying to keep the forum more organized) will appreciate it. There are tons of threads on that subject.

Thanks for your input. I suppose that's it.

That's a common confusion, don't worry about it. The only difference between legover and pickup, is the direction you rotate your leg around the bag.
Let's say you set from right foot toe, and want to use your left foot to rotate around the bag, that's the basic form for pickup and legover.

If your left foot moves around the bag from out to in (clockwise) , it's called a legover.
If your left foot rotates from in to out(counter clockwise), that's a pickup.
It sounds like nitpicking, but once you'll get better at these tricks you'll see that these tricks feel completely different to perform.

If you're still puzzled, watch online trick tutorials and slow 'em down :)

so i'm working on these..
for some drills i've been to the hackrifice website, and thought of one myself (set>op pickup>op clip>op toe>repeat; any good?). Anything else i can practice for my pickups?

Getting started drills:
Mirage->pickup rpt
ss pickup -> op toe rpt

Once you're comfortable:
pickup rpt
butterfly->near pickup rpt (replace butterfly with clip if your butterfly isn't consistent yet)

And for extra credit:
ss pickup->pickup rpt.
ss butterfly->far pickup rpt. (this is the hardest drill of the bunch, at least for me)

These are the ones I'm currently using to get my pickups consistent.

Any more ideas?

good news, roy.

if you can come up with that much on your own, you don't need anyone else's help, at least when it comes to pickup.

just keep trading in those different moves that make pickup change sides. mirage instead of illusion, whirl instead of butterfly, etc etc, and you're golden.
