I am having trouble with pdx drifter. Is there a double hip pivot when doing this trick? I seem to want to:

1) set
2) turn my hips to prepare for the dex
3) then turn my hips back rapidly, completing the dex

I think because I pivot twice, I am making the trick so much harder than it should be. Do you just have to have a perfect set and not turn your hips the first time? Any particular tips?

Seeings how I'm just getting the hang of this trick, I'll spread the word as to how I'm doing it...

I set the bag straight up, then as soon as you do so you want to pivot your hip towards the bag as quickly as possible. I then perform the dexterity and whilst doing so I hop away from the bag and bring my foot back under to catch it.

Perform the dex as quickly as possible so that your leg goes over just after the bag has reached the apex of the set.

A hop to the bag will help you spare the pivot and hop away from the bag will help you hit Drifter.

This is my first ever Paradox Drifter. Hit or not.

a very important tip for all drifter moves is to keep you legs close together. Obviously lift one leg above the other, but try to keep the horizontal space between them as small as possible.

yes Jeremy's is a good tip. What helped me a lot also was this:

- try and keep your setting "foot" (not leg) very close to your planting leg.

That way the angle between your setting thigh and setting shin is roughly 45°. It makes the dex require a lot less effort I think.

yacine posted a long time ago that you shouldn't jump until you're dexing leg is above the bag.

IE. get you're dexing leg in position before you throw you're momentum in the air

I was wondering if you guys had any tips for a regular drifter set from a clipper. I can do toe drifters fine, but am having trouble with clipper-set ones. When I try them from clipper, after I set and do the mirage part, I take the little hop but the bag always goes behind my hopping leg instead of in front of my hopping leg. What should I do to fix this? Also, I seem to be a millisecond too late to delay the bag; what should I do to delay the bag in time and have a nice set coming out of the drifter so that I can go into some other move from it? Thanks a lot for the help! :)

set the bag higher and start the dex earlier!

With pdx drifters - I've found that if you do a small sideways hop as you're setting the bag - so that it passes across you - the move is much easier. I think of the hop as the "barfly" hop - but basically it works for any clip set farside move - it's especially good for pdx moves where the bag has to come back towards the setting side because you can set the bag straight up - while if you're setting it across you - you have to move back further.

I think ideally with a pdx drifter you should be in the exact same position when you finish the move as when you start - ie you shouldn't be facing a slightly different direction or have moved slightly in one direction.

Matt K wrote:oh, and totally unrelated to Pickups, but since we're talking about doing dexes wrong, is it bad to do Pdx Drifters with the dex a bit 'whirl-ish'?(not that i've even got it yet. i might have today but my leg killed after trying them non stop yesterday)
What do you mean by whirl-ish? Do you mean starting out like a pdx whirl, with your lower dexing leg facing outward from the side you set and stall from?

Like I said in the pickups thread, there is no right or wrong way to do any trick. It's completely a matter of style. The only concern you should have is if your question pertains to the possibility of injury from performing the move.

He means to point you toe out away from you body a bit. This is the worst way to do drifter, because not only are you expending extra energy, your catching foot has to go MUCH further to complete the delay. This makes the delay less solid and reduces your chance for a clean set. I just got drifters down recently (thanks to anz tips video) and this was my biggest problem.

I've just started practising Pdx Drifters, thanks to everyone for good tips!
My problem is the slippery floor - when the technique is not yet that good, you have to put lots of energy on "aiming" the jump, dex and delay. It'll probably get better when the technique does too.
