Any metal fans?

Yeah disciples of metal rise up(yeah I know that was cheesy).

I like to listen to metal while I shred, while I drive, while I work out, while I sleep. Anyone else fans of the ever expanding genre of metal?

Here's some of my favs:

Thrash metal - Sepultura, Sodom, Exhorder, Torture Squad
Death metal - Death, Gorod, Psycroptic
Black metal - Master's Hammer, Sigh, Immortal
Heavy metal - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest

Yeah, general outline.
Hah, check these bands out if you like metal plz. They deserve your attention. Most of them are pretty old though.

Hmm. Metal?

I listen. I actually do pretty much everything while listening to metal. I have my preferences, though.

Power Metal is fun. Repetitious vocals. No hissing. Little growling. Clear vocals. Clear guitar-playing. Catchy melodies. Themes such as fantasy-figures and stuff. Them crazy LARPing people and them D&D players. Power Metal is sweet. Bands such as Blind Guardian, Warmen, NightWish, Hammerfall, probably Dragonforce too, though I dislike them for certain reasons. They sound the same. All of their songs sound the same.

Heavy Metal is fine too. Can't give quite a good description, but it's easy to tell heavy metal apart from the other subgenres. Stuff like Maiden, Manowar, Virgin Steele, Judas Priest, etc.

Then there's Symphonic Metal. It's fun. Most bands are pretty fake symphonic and use lots of keyboarding instead of real strings and pipes and whatnot instruments, but their sounds are still good. Bands like Therion, Within Temptation, and Haggard (which is literally Symphonic. 19 members as of the last count.). Interesting stuff.

That's basically what I like.

I guess I should add Folk Metal too as one of my likes. Hard to explain what it is, but one can tell by listening. Bands like Finntroll for them Finns and Swedes, Skyclad for them British, and Elvenking for whatever they are. Meh. Add Metsatoll for them Estonians >_>.

My dislikes in metal are what the OP mentioned.

Thrash metal is just stupid IMO. Lot's of hissing and hard to hear melodies. So is Black Metal. The only black metal band I like is Nile. And they are strange. That's after listening to mostly it for around 4 months. Death metal is fine. I can listen to many death metal bands without a problem. Doesn't mean I like them though. If you're feeling dark and gloomy and stuff, pick up some atmospheric Doom metal. Clear melodies. Lots of repetition. Depressing lyircs. Isn't that the point of Death Metal?

Anyway, apart from that stuff, I have a pretty diverse liking of metal. I find Suomi(Ask the Finnish people on the forum what that means...) metal tolerable. I find stuff like Time Requiem(Mostly keyboards) fine too. Hell, Darkseed is cool too. Just not random hissing/grunting and double bass whatevers.

Anyway, Erik Chan should post here soon. He's been to what seems to be quite a few concerts and the damned recent Opeth concert too!

Damn it! Why do they all go to the SMALLER towns? Why do they so rarely stop at NYC and such LARGE cities?

Nile is more death metal

Power metal is alright. I like Dragonforce's Valley of the Damned and other bands: Sonata Arctica, Kamelot. As for symphonic- I like Therion.

Death metal is usually more goreish,destruction,death lyrics. I'm not much for atmospheric doom, but I like some death/doomish bands like Autopsy, old Katatonia, Cathedral.

I like a lot of different kinds of metal though the line seems blurred most of the time so I don't bother with deciphering genres.

I'm a big fan of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Symphony X, Pagan's Mind, Psychotic Waltz, Megadeth, older Queensryche and In Flames, The Scorpions, Sinergy, Dark Tranquility, Iced Earth, etc. Catchy riffs, choruses and good solos usually grab my attention.

I don't know. I don't know many actually band names. I recognize a lot of the bands mentioned, but haven't really listened to them much, except Nightwish; they're my favourite. I really dig symphonic metal.

Does anyone listen to Bal Sagoth? They're bloody epic.

STATIC-X!

A little mainstream, as far as "metal" goes. I put metal in quotes becuase so many people have different definitions of metal, the band describe themseveles as "evil disco", so a mix between disco, metal, and electro? IDK, but I listen to them a lot. Also, Pantera, Chimera (sp? I don't have the cd with me right now), the new 5 Bolt Main CD is pretty sweet, although the old band Flaw is just as good, and lastly I love me some Spine Shank.... good times, good times

i dont consider static X metal at all, i consider them more like hard-ish rock, a real metal band is like killswitch engaged, trivium, lamb of god, metallica, all that remains, and it dies today

I used to listen to a lot of metal when I played in a death metalish type band, pantera and maiden have always been my two favourite but I can listening to anything from death stuff like Vader and Nile, to more melodic or hardcore stuff like opeth/dark tranquility or The bled or some atreyu.

I like In Flames, Dry Kill Logic, older Soil, Ill Nino, Atreyu, Stone Sour, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Rammstein and Megaherz.. rather than try to distinguish between the metal-types and get corrected by the metalheads, I'll just lump it all into a genre called "Metal that sounds good to me."

but i listed to lots of dif. music. like anything from Smashing Pumpkins, RATM, Pantera, SOAD, Primus, fear factory, basically any rock.

and older stuff like megadeth, metallica

heh i set up for judas priest and anthrax, i got to meet some of em. good show.
Anyway this thread needs to be revived.

I listen to Pantera, Nile, Children of Bodom, Black Label Society, Lamb of God, Between the Buried and Me, Deeds of Flesh, Arch Enemy, Black Dahlia Murder, Nevermore, Gorerotted, Therion, anything that doesn't suck like obscure badly recorded black metal, or lame MTV bands.
