Ripwalk (Woohoo!!!)

Post by Matt K »

Hey i just hit ripwalk a few minutes ago, and it was the hardest move to get my body to do. i couldn't get the plant down for the stepping set (Ripwalk is my first stepping move actually) and kept doing dada curves and got about 15 in the times i was trying this.

But i finally got it. the stepping set was decent for just learning it but the butterfly was pretty terrible  oh well, at least i hit it. Plus, this is the one move i've wanted to learn since i started freestyle and now it feels awesome to be able to do it :D

PS. I finally started playing in my lavers (i was the kid who played in pants and DC's) because i modded them last week. They're simply awesome, and i'm now a believer of playing in lavers, short shorts and shirtless :D

sweet!!!!!!! ripwalk was the first stepping move I got too. Keep working it until you can get really good. If I can get a good vid of my ripwalk I'll post it. Also work on stepping > ss clipper, that will help you alot with stepping.

After you get good on one side, work your flipside. Work on everything flipside, unless your good both ways already.

no not really. i've just only started working on all of my flipside tricks, so i've got some catching up to do. And everytime i tried Stepping Clipper i would either hit the bag with my knee or end up kicking myself

it sounds like your either rushing it, or you not setting it high enough. I learned that you only need to set it a little lower than your waist.

also see if you can get stepping butterfly, that will also help get you do stepping clipper.

i think this is the problem. focus on getting that stepping leg out to the side faster than that set comes up. looks like you'll be hitting it clean and back to back in no time.

hey i finally got that sidewalk after trying it on and off for an hour at 10:00. i think my problem was with the set. i wasn't getting my dexing foot down fast enough to get back over it, but i just forced it to go as fast as possible and got it clean(and it improved my stepping set greatly)

funk passed on a secret that effectively taught me stepping in about 15 minutes:

your support knee needs to move out of the way to the side in a hippy motion almost like youre about to knee the guy standing next to you right in the nuts.... in other words, hold your hand about 8 inches out to your side, hip level, and practice kneeing it from a butterfly (with no bag). that hippy side knee kick motion thing is key to making the bag magically pop right up under your knee when u set.

im super happy for you because i was the EXACT same way. 4 months ago i was starting freestyle thinkin "ok when i can hit THAT move (ripwalk) i know it looks cool to random people" i hit it back to back 4x yesterday!!!!!!!

im just as stoaked as you are for your first!!!

sidewalk too, is an awesome trick. hit blur!!!

omg just reread your post, the part about the lavers, decided this one merits a new post, not an edit.

YES! lavers. YES! no DCs and pants.

wow you shred in DCs??? jesus h...

well damnit dont ever do that again! haha lets see those whiteass knees.
pretend its cool and suddenly *poof* omg it is!

ive begun sporting short shorts and lavers probly more often than i should (like every day to class etc.) i get funny looks constantly. im proud though :)

yeah my strings really suck right now, i was working on them today, but i get really off balance when i do multiple hard tricks back to back. i did try a ripwalk mid string (Pdx Mirage>Butterfly>Butterfly>Ripwalk) but it didn't work out. Flipside will probably be a while away, i can't get my dexing leg to do the hippy motion (it's doing more of a whirl dex motion) so even if i do clear the bag it's only about knee height.

I did however drill my regular stepping intensly and it has really improved(more consistent and higher) and i got a good sidewalk on video.

I also have a video where i was just messing around with some stuff, but i got a really good ripwalk in there, so i thought i'd share.

My school has a damn uniform, but I've been wearing the uniform shorts all winter. Even normall shorts get funny looks... I wish I could wear my shred shorts!!
