Backing on suade?

I went to the fabric shop yesterday and asked for some micro or ultra suede and what they showed me had a backing on it. One had cotton backing and the other had fine woven fabric on the back. Can you get micro suede without this? I stitched my first 12 panel and it seems like its kinda stiff because of the backing, but maybe its supposed to be like that until broken in? Can anyone give me the skinny on the different types of suede available?

I don't think what they gave you was ultrasuede then, just some generic microsuede. I remember when I used some microsuede from some bargain bin at Joanne's , the bags I made with it were always a bit stiff compared to facile - never fully broke in...'or it did...but it was just too damn stiff

Damn... thats annoying. Thought there was something off about it. I did manage to seperated the suade from the backing on the one with the fine fabric backing, but the other one with the cotton backing is going to be a problem... I guess I just will have to make something else clever out of it.

Buy a sweater, cut out the letters to spell "Footbag" or whatever you want, then sew the cotton-suede into the inside of the sweater! I did it with the crappy suede that I used to use for when I first started stitching. It's by FAR my favorite sweater
