Stitch gathering

Post by Isaac Noyes »

When stitching a footbag should I be gathering the fabric on each of my stiches? If so to what degree? I've been doing it a little bit but I noticed lots of the pics of footbags that they all look like the have had their stitches gathered much more than mine do. Whats the best method to make sure that they are all uniform?

you might try the gathering around the butt of a pencil method, preferably a larger, "thick" pencil. That ensures that gathering is even. Eventually, you just eye it.

Call me stupid but I haven't heard about this, and am awful curious. My gathering is kinda inconsistent.

i used to gather, and double stich on each side but it was to inconsistant. now im trying to not gather at all and at the end of the panel gather around a medium sized pen cap. by the way there is no right way to gather, abshires have a lot of gather, mosher hardly uses any. it all depends on how you want the bag to look and perform

I tried gathering around a big pen lid, but it didn't work for me at all... I find it easier to just eye it, but that's prolly not a big help to you. Just go with whatever feels right

How does the gather change the performance, cause I really like how the bags with a lot of gather look.

well when you have a brand new low gather bag it will be more ready to play when its new than a new high gather bag or thats what i think happens
eventually a high gather bag will straighten out its stichs and get a bit bigger so i guess the purpose of low gather bags could be to get a broken in feel on a smaller and newwer bag, i dont know
