Editing Music

Where do I start with learning to edit music. I've never done it nor do I have a single clue as to how to do it.

I have to create a 12 minute track for a Bartending competition I'm going to be in. I have 3 songs that I want to put together and edit out all the bad words.

Where do I begin?

My brothers use Goldwave; I've used it before for footbag videos, and I think there is a free demo somewhere -- it's pretty easy, and all of my brothers compose, so it must be pretty good?...

I would LOVE to learn that shit but i work in a bar for mostly over 40s and war vets...

If you mean editing just like, cutting a track to size or removing parts, then i use Cool Edit 2000. Very simple and effective for this purpose.

What other music making software is out there?
I saw 'eJay Techno' today, and was tempted to buy it ($50au.), and give that a go.
I used to play with a demo version of Fruity Loops, but I couldn't save anything I did, and it was very limited (being a demo).

Does anyone else use these sorts of programs?
What do you recomend?

I remember fruity loops. Awesome drum program. I just picked up Reason although I haven't had time to play with it much.

Reason fucking rocks. I've been working with it for like 2 years now, and am far from sick of it or feeling constrained in any way.

Reason is professional, but It's used for creating, not editing mostly.
Fruty Loops and E-Jay are also used for creating (E-Jay is great for beginners!).

But for editing, I would advise you use Cool Edit Pro. The latest version is under Adobe control (since they bought the little studio), so if you are familiar with Premier or Photoshop, you will soon get the hang of it.
