If you speak german&footbag please read this! Others too

Post by SlickProtege »

Hello

My name is Eric Bishop (protege). I am making this post to learn about how and if footbagging has any effect on german culture. This semester at URI (University of Rhode Island) I am taking a German 102 class. My professor the other day asked us to do a culture project on any german speaking countries. He said we could do any topic we wanted, so right away I said why not footbag. I know that someone had posted a topic like this one a while ago on the culture of footbag and it gave me a lot of ideas of what to write about, however, I wanted to know from germans themselves. How footbag made its way over to your country?, What have you brought to the game?, Is it growing over there?, Who are the big shredders?, Do you see it effecting people in your country? just general stuff like that. So if anyone has anything to say about this topic, german or not, please let me know. Also any footage of Deutsch shredders is appreciated. anything you can dish out would be awesome... thank you for reading and for any information i might recieve from you.

peace.
Bishop

well my background is pretty simple and classical, i guess:

a friend brought up a hackysack. i smoked lots of herb at that time and i thought, that hacking and smoking is in a special relation...

well, i´ve kicked then over a year, learned some tricks without even knowing, like clipper kick oder dragonfly kick. but it was all just some circle kicking.
then someone asked me, if i play "footbag" via ICQ. i was like o_O well i play hackysack, but footbag... hmm dunno. this guy (i found out later) was fabian kollakowski, a former european intermediate champ. i had some chats with him and he introduced me with footbag.org and random videos (like the black&white routine :D ). he came along and shredded hard, i couldn´t even follow his legs. i was blown away by that abilities and that fired me and some friends of mine on.
well, right now, after 4 years of footbag freestyle, some things changed.
we have an organized club. it´s probably the 3rd biggest in germany with other people, that didn´t built up the core and came new to the game. we do several shows and events. it starts from workshops over small shows to big ones with over 3000 spectators. everything just became more, than i expected 4 years ago, when i kicked the hackysack.
footbag is more than a sport for me. i met lots of new people, got some great connections and just had a very good time with being a "footbagger". footbag is just a community, where you can live in, when you like to. you "can" use it to get in touch with other people, but you don´t have to.

well, if there is any effect, that footbag brings up is hard to say. i just can tell you, that more and more people get to know the sport, even it is unknown and underground.
it is growing here. in a small way, but there is definately no stagnation. clubs are building, some people are posting the german .org forum, i don´t know.

i am curios about the coming soccer world championships. this event could increase the publicity of footbag enourmous. i can tell you, i will do lots of street shows while there are plays here and in other cities.

i hope to helped you out a bit. if there are any more special questions, just ask or pm
