Good Filler?

I'm going to start stitching my own bags. I was wondering what's some of the best filler you can use. I'm getting tired of these silly "hackey sacks" from Pacific Sun and wherever else they sell crappy bags. I'm going to get some facile and other materials later tonight but I don't know what I'm going to use as filler. Sand, Airsoft BB's(plastic), Dirt, Gravel, Rocks, Plastic pellets used in the stupid Pacific Sun sacks? What would give good stall-ability, consistency and just be a general good filler? I've been researching the topic for a couple days and thought I'd make a thread.

Filler is a matter of personal preference. I would just experment with different stuff until you find some you like.

For me, I like metal BB's, small plastic beads, and sometimes some smooth aquarium rock or tiny beans.

Just try new stuff and see what you like.

If there's any rule of thumb for filler I'd say don't pick out anything that's too big, like some behemoth marbles that you'd use in a game of chinese checkers or something..

airsoft BB's and similarly sized lead or steel shot would make good filler

Dirt, Gravel and nearly all rock make bad footbag filler.

I just got back from crappy Hobby Lobby and it turns out they carry cotton and crap over facile/suede. I did get some good needles there though.

New questions:

What makes a decent alternative material that I'd have laying around the house that I could practice stitching with?

Would nylon be a decent thread or should I use dental floss?

Waxed dentotape (dental floss) absolutely rocks, also in the way of filler lead shot, fishing weights, seed beads, and anything else that would not rip the inside apart is good, experiment....like i'm currently doing now..

I use dental floss, I've never thought of using anything else hehe, pretty damn durable for the cost. I cut my old t-shirts up when I first started practicing, then I started to use cheap microsuede.

One good thing might have come out of Hobby Lobby though. I think in this little all purpose needle package I bought it actually included a glovers needle. Not sure though. I'm going to print some paterns and have at it. I heard T-shirts were hard to work with in small pieces. Maybe a napkin would work

I use polypellets (plastic pellets) and seed bead, mostly. I sometimes use shot though.
Ive never used dental floss, which is weird caust most of the best use it. I use embroidery floss split in half so its 3 strands, and Ive never had any problem with it. Plus it comes in all colors so it makes inconsistent stiching less noticable (although i dont have to worry about that anymore.)

Start stitching 4-6 paneled bags before you upgrade to 32s, that is unless you have a pretty solid running stitch (which by all means go ahead with the 32s).

I made a bag out of the bottom of an old sock last night. It's the worst bag I've ever used. But it was practice so whatever. I used dental floss and airsoft BB's (heavy ones) as filler. I might buy the panel kit from kingston and try my luck at a 32 panel. I'd like to practice stitching 4 panels but the template on http://www.valinet.com/~dbotkin/sew.html . The picture that shows the dimensions of the panel doesn't print off

I made two bags last night. They were 6 panel square shaped bags but they got rounder. I'm going to try a new shaped bag when I get home tonight. Then it's off to buy some actuall fabric from the store. I need to get a good filler though, in my bag stitching I've come to the conclusion that filler and shape are key(at least in my bags).

put the 4 panel pic into MS word and resize to the rulers on the program print

or make a mr sand bag style
