A good invention?

Post by Rad »

I was making my first bag last night and I thought of something that might be pretty useful and cut down on making higher panel bags.

My idea:

Make something that's a cross between a cookie cutter and a hole punch. What it will do is cut the fabric into the pattern you want. Like if you wanted a pentagon with certain length sides all you'd have to do is buy the cutter with the specifications. Basically what it would do is cut out a pentagon or whatever shaped shape you want and it would be a hell of a lot easier and more consistent.

That's not an invention, it's called a punch.

The reason most stitchers don't use technology like this is because firstly it's VERY expensive to have custom punches made and secondly because most stitchers occasionally/often change thier template dimensions, and doing that would make ones expensive punches useless when they are no longer the shape you want.

Good thinking though, innovation is ALWAYS an advantage in footbag/life.

if you have access to a metal shop try to make one.. just make the shapes out of some sheet metal then sharpen one edge of it.

Punch was the word I was looking for, thanks mosher. Now that I think about it it would be expensive to keep making punches.

Plus, it's fun to experiment with dimensions. :)
