My public routine for 200 students.

Post by BalinorNZ »

Hey modified,

I performed a 1:33 min footbag routine for 200 University students at a Student night church i'm involved with. I think it went as well as could be expected for 2 nights preparation, they sprung it on me pretty late but it turned out ok.

The routine was performed as a lead in to the service as something new fun and exiting.

Here is the link: (26mb)

Let me know your thoughts, i'm interested to investigate further the art of public footbag performace and how we can improve it.

Thanks.

really awesome job man, its sooooo not easy to get up there and not drop for that long.

when i did my 5 minute speech on "anything" i actually recieved points off for my visual aide... im assuming because i only hit a few contacts as a display. i got an A- but i felt like i let footbag down. you definately did not, i love the energy and crown participation :)

for those of you who go to youth group type dealies, its so funny how familiar they all look and sound. that could have easily been my youth group...but mine isnt really cool.

haha "who are you?!"

now that i have actually seen most of it, nice basic level of play for demo, with spinning and ducking, good. and good build-up for the DATW...looked very cool. and i liked how you really picked up the level of shred towards the end. i would say really solid job!

Nice Nic. You have fast style. The crowd seems to like the the stepping and DLO and stuff. Maybe 1 big one at the end and a bow?

Nick, that was Phat!!! I like how you kept control and comfortable style the whole time. It looked like you were going to go for a big trick at the end but decided to end clean with a hand catch, I think that was a good idea. Good music, good energy. Some might have chosen to engage the crowd a little more with some facial expressions or some bigger pauses, or a laugh and a bow at the drops, but all in all, I think you did a good job. Way to turn it up at the end for some higher energy!

thanks for taping.

Thanks guys, these commets are very helpfull :) I was hoping to make it guiltless at the end, but that didn't happen and I think it's better that I went tiltless and didn't drop.
It was a little annoying because the bag kept rolling off the front of my good clipper just before I performed and the 2 drops were because of this problem, both were easy moves (clipper and spinning clip) so that was a pity.

I was thinking about a big trick at the end but the song has a bit of an anticlimactic ending as it fades out, I should have done something big and then clip > handcatch to finish I think.
I was also considering bowing, but they were ment to fade the lights out on my origionally with me standing there, so no bow would be needed, but that didn't happen.

Next time I think I will put more dlo stuff, some better spinning moves, a lot more stepping (blurry whirl is easy enough for routine) and DEFINATLY some atomic! I was disapointed I didn't get my atomic move in at the end.
I also think some symp moves would be really good for public performace.

I think public performace is definatly something that needs to be thought about for footbag because that is the way to getting noticed, big performaces :).

Hi, i think you did really great. It's never easy when we have to footbag in a precise moment. I think also that you went for titless instead of guiltless is wise choice, because it's more impressive for a crowd who doesn't know about the sport, so making a longer run is more effective (only a pick-up, or else, can impress a lot for a non-footbaggistic public, and public doesn't understand well more complicated mooves). I think we have to choose different ways of doing runs in front footbaggers and non-footbaggers.

My only worry, is your right knee, cause when it become the support leg, it tends in a inside position and can hurt you ligaments. That's my opinion.

Anyway, big props, it's always nice to see that footbag is well represented. Keep up.

Good job!!
I liked the beginning how you had a definite beginning pose, and held it until your cue in the song. That gave the performance more of a 'performance' effect.

Really well done. The build up of energy towards the end worked well and you did well under the pressure, props :D

Just watched the vid :D

Good stuff Nic, 2 drops is a very good effort!

As for doing routines for non footbaggers spins, ducks and dives look very impressive.

that is great
i guess you really enjoyed this moment. The routine is really good, even with these few drops. According to me you would add another dimension with a bit more spinning tricks and fly tricks.
but the routine fits really well to the music. the introduction of the routine with the first bits is really huge too. What music is that?
How do you feel when you get on stage with a pair of shorts? i did a few demos in night clubs or during concerts it is so strange to come on stage in a place where people are dressed like you usually dress yourself to go to a night club for instance. Many times, the public was like "but who's that guy coming on the stage with such a way to dress himself?". It is often the first reaction and then people usually ejoy the show and is surprised in the mean time. What do you think about this? maybe people don't think like this where you live.
anyway, congratulation!

Fly tricks, other kicking tricks, juggling, unique stalls (sole stalls, flappers etc) would make the routine more entertaining and would allow me to catch my breath, I am definatly looking into learning those kinds of tricks for routine purposes :).

The music is Kirk Franklin - Our God is an Awesome God I think.

It did feel pretty wierd getting on stage in those shorts, but I know most of the students there and they all hooted and whistled so that made it more embaressing :p.
The people that have seen me play know already why I wear the shorts, and those that don't forget pretty quickly about my white legs as they get blown away by the shred :D

I have seen a video of Ryan mulrony doing a routine with some break dancers and stuff and he is in big board shorts, and sure he looked like he fitted in more, but he coulden't show anywhere near his real shred level. Maybe once you are as good as him you can still perform well and look cool, but I don't think anyone can really worry about what you're wearing when they see you shred, it also makes the sport look more professional instead of just like some hacky player who knows some hardout hack tricks :).
