April Fools shred in Houston, Texas

Post by Stoke »

I already posted this in the footbag.org forum, but I figured I should make a new thread here too.

Cameron Kennedy [Tsiangkun] is coming to Houston on a business trip at the end of March. So we're planning to kick with him on Saturday, April 1st. I'm inviting all footbag players who are interested in kicking with us into Houston for that weekend to hang out and shred. [map to Hermann Park] If you need a place to crash, please let me know, because I have some space. If you know any players that would be interested, please let them know about it, because there hasn't been a Texas jam in over a year, and I don't know who the active players are anymore.. [outside of Houston] I haven't gotten a definite answer, but I think Ryan Thomas is coming too. There are a few more coming as well, but I don't wanna drop any more names.. Please post if you plan on coming.

Heads up: We're working on organizing a good jam in upcoming months.. And the Texas State Championships will be in Austin in the fall. More info as it becomes available. :footbag:

2 definite Austin stylers, plus one probable. Will ask again on Saturday's club shred session see if anyone else can make it.

20 Miles to Texas, 25 to Hell.

This is gonna rule. I love road trips, I love footbag, if only Mr. Plow were playing in Houston that weekend...

Hey guys,

I still have to figure out my plans for next weekend. I may rent a car, or come down with a friend. Still busy with end of school, tests, and future.

Hopefully I'll be down, I just got to kick with the old Rochester Crew last weekend, and another session would be nice.

I'll be in touch.

I was planning on being in Houston Saturday around noon, and taking off Saturday evening. I know its short but its the only way to keep costs under 50$ which would be nice.

Let me know if Saturday is the best day to come down, and I 'll get a rental.

Cant wait to kick, hope everything works out.

It's a start. The Texas footbag scene has been dormant for a while and we are beginning to awaken it from its slumber.

alrighty.

I need to give stokely a call and see what is up. I made it to houston, and so far it seems really large.

I am next door to minute maid park, in the hilton, room 11058. (713-739-8007)

I'll be doing business crap all day, but I'm reachable at my cell phone. 510-two nine zero-0273.

Tonight is the night! We will be leaving Austin around 6-ish I believe and on our way to a sweet shred! There had BETTER be a Jamba Juice nearby too, I've got cash reserved for exactly that purpose.

I can't wait!

At work avoiding doing any actual work. Waiting for the clock to strike 5 and hoping maybe my boss will let me out early.... damn.

MIKE, I will be bringing my camera, which can do short amounts of video, maybe we can film a sick 1 and sick 3 for you tonight?

Aw that was so much fun. Thank you all for coming out. I had a great time hangin out and shredding.. We were in the park for about 6 hours.. haha

There was a good vibe and it looked like everyone was on their best game. I was shredding hard all day, until my legs just wouldn't move anymore without cramping. I hit blurriest first time! :D

Lots of good shredders were out there- There were three circles at one point, and we were getting a lot of attention from the people in the park. A huge group of kids were watching us and applauding and asking questions. A few of them asked me for my autograph. I was flattered. :)
I ruined their shirts by signing my name on them, but I did give them my contact information and the footbag.org url. That whole episode was pretty funny.. But maybe I just started a new generation of Houston freestylers..

Jesse was filming on and off and he recorded some decent runs and combos. I can't wait to see the video..

Now I'm really looking forward to the next Texas event. I'm really excited for the future of Texas Footbag.

Just got home. We had a really great time, and it was totally worth it to go all the way there. I'll probably have time to edit the footage tomorrow and see what we've got, hopefully I got some of the good stuff. Overall this was a lot of fun, and I can't wait until the next Texas jam!!!

Also, much thanks for the crash space and everything, Mike. We had a lot of fun. Now I will sleep and wake up in pain.

This was awesome. I'm so glad we went. I'm in some pain today after 6.5 hours of shred yesterday, but it was well worth it.

I'll post details from my perspective in my blog later on. Jesse, I can't wait to see the video!

Saturday was a great session at the zoo! My friend drove me down from Tyler, pretty much 4 hours! He doesnt kick at all and sat on a bench the entire afternoon. Meeting everyone was great, its a young scene with tons of potential!

Ben, shorty, Thomas, Heather, and jesse were some of the shredders I met. All were kicking hard and eager to learn. And there were a bunch of old friends that I met up with down there, I had a great time and it was a good way to end my last semester in the crazy state of TX.

Thanks for all your work Mike, the website, directing, and organizing all went well.

Ahhh I got to go to an Astros game before I left!!! So much fun :D We snagged some free tickets on our way to the gate. I drank down some unbelievably overpriced draft and bought me a chili dog. We got to chill out in such a nice park and enjoy the evening. I made it back to tyler at 1 in the morning, we floored it up 75 North in record time!!! 8O

This jam was so much fun, thanks to everyone for making it happen.

The turnout was HUGE, and the location was prime for exposing the sport. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to get back to the conference so I could have an embarassing cramp during a meeting.
