Texas Footbag media exposure

Post by Stoke »

I posted a lot of information in the forum of our myspace Houston Footbag group page.. And I figured I might as well put it here too. It's good stuff.
I was messing around on the internet and I did a google search for "houston footbag." I was excited by several of the things I found..

The Houston Skyliners Footbag Club is featured in the Active Resource Guide in Houston's Health and Fitness Magazine. The ARG can be found here. They also did a little article on us. I haven't seen the magazine, but I found the article online. Here's the link. It's a decent article. Atleast they got my name and contact information right. :)

But I did more browsing through the google search results and found another article. It's from the University of Manitoba student-run newspaper. I read it and it's the best footbag article that I've ever read. It's in an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF document, and you have to scroll down to page 11 to see it. Not sure why it showed up in the search results though. Check it out.

As some of you may know, the Houston Chronicle did an article on us in March 2004. I transcribed the text of the article to my blog. It's near the bottom, has a scanned image from the paper, and is titled "Get a Kick Out of Life." A word about my blog: I haven't been keeping up with it for a long time. There is soooo much more I wanted to write in there, and of course there's new stuff I'd like to write in there all the time.
Anyway, for a while, you could go to the Houston Chronicle's website [chron.com] and easily find the video that was made to compliment the online article. But after a couple months, it became unavailable. I read that you have to be a paying subscriber to the newspaper and enter some kind of code to be able to view all those old videos. Apparently that's not true. I found the link to that video and here it is. By the way, the video features me, Garry, Tim, Windsen, and Joe Abbott. Joe hit some sick stuff..

I also found an article on Tina Lewis that I hadn't seen before.. For those of you who don't know her, she is the current Womens' Singles [and Doubles] Footbag Net World Champion, and she also got third place in Mixed Doubles. She's in Austin, she holds several offices on the International Footbag Committee, and she was inducted into the Footbag Hall of Fame last year. Props, Tina! :D Here's the article. I like the first picture, so I put it in with the other pics related to our group.

That's a pretty cool find :D I haven't time right now but I'll read that pdf article later... that's bizzare that they wrote articles on you without even contacting you.

Oh I wasn't very clear on that I guess..
I knew they were gonna write a little article. In fact, I was interviewed and they quoted me. But I never got around to picking up the magazine and I wasn't sure if the article would be online.

I stuttered in the video..
But they didn't ask us any questions- just pointed the camera at us and told us to talk about footbag.. And we didn't plan out what we were gonna say.. Jeez- I could talk about footbag for hours, but I'm afraid I make it sound boring, going "Uhh... I uh.. " Not to mention my run sucked. But it's still a cool video because it demo's footbag and our club. I wish I could save it to my hard drive or put it right on our club listing page on footbag.org. I tried.
