Shred towns

Has anybody noticed how fast footbag as a sport is growing? I started playing a year ago when i saw the Monhollon brothers for the first time at a mall. I started practicing diligently and i am now a shredder. It caught on fast at my school. Everybody in town (almost) knows who i am (even if it's just as the hackey sack kid). I've noticed footbag to be like a wild fire. There are about six or seven kids i know of that have bought lavers and many many more have just started playing

, and i think to myself "there has to be other shred towns out there" Does anybody live in one of these "shred towns" where footbag is growing as rapidly, or already has grown and there are many shredders? I live in Sand Springs Ok, its just outside of Tulsa where the monhollons live.

fads bro - people see something obscure and latch on and it becomes a fad for a short amount of time. just wait until someone introduces something new.

my town was like that for disc golf. i played disc golf for about 2 years before it exploded, like footbag did for you, and now my town's disc golf course is going to be shut down because it attracts so much crap. hopefully you have better luck with footbag than i did with disc golf.

That's really cool Blurryben!I hope my town will become a shred town.Like where i live nobody know's about freestyle im playing for 2 months but got 3 people to freestyle already

i hope in the future it will atract a lot of people

Although I agree, you are looking at it all wrong. Footbag is very hard which is why there are so few players, also there are very little people who know about freestyle footbag. Yes alot of kids play, but realistically only a small number of them will ever persue freestyle footbag, which is all that really matters. I think The "Fad" or as i like to call the epidemic "footbag fever" will and i repeat will spread through every town in the world conjuring up few but some players from many of the towns leaving more and more freestylers thus producing more freestyle footbaggers than footbag has ever known and we will take over the world! Hey Ben, which mall did you see them at? Promenade(is that how you spell it?) or woodland hills?

You live in sanddprings, sweet, do you know anyone else in Tulsa besides Luis and Nelson?, there are some other guys named Ben and Louis who they sometimes shred with,wait, is this Ben Rinowski (spelling?)

Yes Matt Coffman I am that guy! I played w/them at the promenade but we got kicked out (several times before actually leaving). I actually would love to come down to Texas and shred it up w/ you guy(s). Where at in Texas? If it isnt too far i could make a road trip with my brother louis and possibly Matt (freestyler4life) and possibly some of the monhollons. We can make towns shred towns! It is time to start spreading the freestyle gospel!

We are really just starting the club back up in Austin which is central Texas. It's probably going to be about six hours due south from OK City on IH-35. We are planning to have a big of statewide Texas Jam this summer in Austin and of course everyone is invited. Since OK is pretty close you guys definitely need to come!

In my city I'm pretty much the only one who freestlyes besides my friend who can do a couple tricks but I highly doubt he is serious to learn freestyle : (

Off topic, but...they are some of the most inspirational and stylistic players I have ever met. You are very lucky to live so close to them. you will learn tons by kicking with them.

more or less thats how Kyle Hewiit got me into freestyle, i thought it was lame until i actually saw what people could do, then i was like "holy CRAP!" from then on ive shredded ALOT, i thank ye kyle for getting me into footbag! We as a group have gotten one other person into freestyle but i dont think he is serious into it

You should motivate the other guy and he will get serious.I've got myself into footbag from not knowing of it and couldnt even kick the bag 3 times and im very serious now and have big plan's

nashville is a dead town. no one here but me. dammit. i just found a guy who just started tho, but hes a little distanced still.

from clarksville tn, my hometown, theres a myspace shred group.... but from the looks, they just hack. stupid asses. if they only knew!

ive even tried just getting people i dont know to stop and play footbag.
i got 1 person to stop today.

When new shredders are in their infant stages it is important that us more experienced players take them under our wing. We need to teach them proper techniques and assure them that they can be just as good as anyone else with alot of practice. It is important to remember that because footbag is so hard not many people will actually stick with it. We need to help the beginners as much as possible for the sake of footbag.

I agree. Today my friend said to me I think im going to get a hacky sack and get good at it. I'm going to give him one of my sand bags for beginning and show him how to do stuff.

Off topic, but could anyone tell me how to teach someone to just kick a footbag if they arent very good?

Yes, I can tell you how. Start by just kicking with them, keep it in the air as long as you can with them. Tell them to make sure they get both sides down with all basic kicks. Then teach them all the basic stalls. This will take them a while to school. Once they do that its on to dexes which is when they become shredders.
