Hey guys. I'm new to the footbag scene, just started along with Drew360 (that guy sucks though. He just kinda flails his limbs out there and kicks the bag halfway across the room )
Anyway, I've done some reading, and know that the Lavers are highly reccomended. My question is this.
right now I've been wearing my Reebock basketball shoes, which are absolutely HORRIBLE for footbagging. The toe is extremely rounded, so the bag likes to roll off. If I kept practicing in these, and got good with em, would it just make me even better when I finally got some quality shoes for this? Or should I just learn with some quality shoes.

AHAHAhahahah thats a good one...keep it down gimp boy... you don't have to hate lol
what is so funny about this is we are sitting next to each other on computers at work....
you COULD learn in any shoes, but to advance, you need real shoes. for footbag. like lavers, climas, or G-units. those are good for starters. lavers are the standard, but some people prefer the others.
I was going to wait to announce this, but I guess it's to late now. Those are the single BEST shoes to play freestyle Footbag with. I used to use Lavers, but then I found these, and . . . !!!!!
We were all once newbs like you who thought "will these shoes reeeeally make a difference". Then we got them. The answer is YES YES YES YES GET THEM GET THEM GET THEM!
Here's quotes from one satisfied customer:
jszymczyk wrote:I got my Rod Lavers delivered today, they were waiting when I got home from work. I immediately took a razor and the mod instructions, and cut the toe-stay stitches, then laced them to hold open the toe box area. They are some FUGLY shoes, even though I like the green trim and soles. My wife was laughing at me and putting on her shades because they are so BRIGHT WHITE it hurts. First time I have EVER bought white shoes. Even my son gave me grief.
Then I went out in the driveway and started landing toe stalls and inside stalls for the first time in combinations. no big for most of you guys but for me it is. Reckon it can only get better from here.
Those shoes need to get dirty so they don't hurt my eyes, but what a difference they make! Had to get used to the different contact angles and adjust accordingly, but that didn't take long. I was even able to repetetively land both-sides toe stalls with a sipa sipa. my sandmaster just laid on the shoes, as if saying "finally!"
I actually felt like I was beginning to know what I was doing I'm going to buy another set just to put away for when the first set wears out, if ever. It always seems that when I find shoes or other clothing that I really like, I buy one and use it until it wears out then the same model is no longer made...
When I first started footbagging I was using skate shoes. Depending on the ones I got I could hit toe stalls, clippers, butterfly's, flyers and atw's. When I got my lavers everything was so much easier than with my skate shoes.
If you don't want to get lavers or g-units or clima's: you could get nastases even though you have to do quite a bit of modding to them, they are the same as lavers but with stripes. I have a pair of these and they work just fine. Clima's are a good shoe to use also, if you can find them.
Laver's and Nastase's are, usually, easier to find then the others. Get them and you will improve.

Lavers are the most widely used footbag shoe but newbies to footbag should know they are not the only productive shoe.
The G-units are an upgraded version of the laver, they have better soles and they look a little nicer in my opinion. There is also the New Balance 520 (that's what I use) they are great for shock absorbtion and they have a much bigger toe. They are a little harder to mod though, but less mods are needed than the laver (IMO). The clipper surface is better on lavers than 520s but with a little shoe glue you can fill it in. There's also the addidas clima cools. I don't know alot about the specific models that are the best for footbag but im sure someone else will fill you in.
I personally didn't like lavers because I have a problem with shin splints when I play with them they don't have alot of shock absorbtion due to the fact that the shoe was developed over 30 years ago..
But nothing beats the laver surfaces and they are a great shoe for footbag.

Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

I know, I was in the same position thinking, "can lavers really make that big of a difference and do I really need them?" I thought that for a while, and they REALLY do make a difference. You just have to trust us
