Kellogg's Frosted Flakes promotion

I haven't got any details to offer on this, but I noticed last night that Kellogg's Frosted Flakes cereal is offering free footbags in "specially marked boxes of cereal." The bags look indescribably bad, and are not referred to as footbags or even hacky sacks. They seem to have come up with some alternative name for their little kicky-sack thing. On the plus side, however, the television commercial (of which I've seen just one so far) did show young kids kicking the things back and forth and even (sort of) doing freestyle tricks. No, they weren't doing guiltless combos. None-the-less, the naive and hopeless optimist in me says "hey, those kids might get interested in playing better and playing with better equipment. Maybe their parents will say 'hey, I used to do something like that, we called it Hacky Sack,' a critical bit of info that might lead, via an internet search, to better info than what they'll got from Tony the Tiger."

The television ad did explicitly state that the game could improve one's soccer skills.

Anyway, if you want to see the commercial, my guess is that it will air again next weekend during the same programming that I was watching this weekend, the "Month of Miyazaki" on the Cartoon Network at, I think, 7:30 pm on Saturday night. Hey, if nothing else, its a good excuse to check out the greatest animated adventure film of all time. After three previous weekends of very good animated features from Japan ("Spirited Away", "Princess Mononoke", and "Laputa, Castle in the Sky"), they've definitely saved the best for last with "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind". Though I ordinarily prefer to watch these in the original Japanese with English subtitles, I haven't seen Nausicaa in English yet, and it seems at though they've done a decent job with the dubbing. I'm excited.

kelloggs has been advertising in europe with its "footbags" for a while now - they are incredibly horrible, not even round! more the shape of an oreo cookie. looks a bit like one also.
they promoted them as apart of their bigger soccer campaigning. here they always had a flag of a big soccer country on one side...

at one point they actually contacted us because they needed somebody for an ad. but they wanted the kicker to look like maximum age of 11 or so... they called it the KELLOGG'S TIGER KICKER TOUR ....
and they wanted to pay no more than 250 bucks or something like that. for a tv ad!!! so we didn't even go to the casting... since it wouldn'T have been any positive exposure for footbag at all.

unfortunately at this point they were not interested in "footbag" at all. i still hope we'll be able to get a deal with them in the future...

Actually, I just finished filming a web commercial for kelloggs. It'll be on frostedflakes.com soon. If kelloggs likes it they may use it on tv.

It was a fun time, they treated me well and pimped me out in Chicago.

They were interested in footbag as a sport while dealing with me.

$250 ???? That's a joke. I got paid real money to do this job, as anyone doing any kind of ad work for web or tv for a company like Kelloggs should get. Never sell yourself short or accept anything but good money to do ads.

Selling ourselves short is one of the general footbag populations main falling points. If I, as an intermediate level player, can get hired to do paid footbag events, why aren't many of the most skilled players (like Peter here) being abled to get paid for their skill?

Is it strange to think that the best way to promote footbag might be to work toward a job on the promotions team of a major athletics or energy food company? If you can get yourself a position at a company like Kellog's for example, could you not create and support footbag initiatives within that company? Footbag has massive potential, and I'm sure some people in the footbag community are considering a career in this feild anyway. I know I am.

in september roman (a guy from linz) and i went to one of their competitions, did a demo and kicked with the kids.
this was the same day when austrian championships took place, so they announced them. also, they were suppossed to put up the planetfootbag-banner at every place they went to...

but, yeah, those *things* are extremely bad to kick with. i once got 20 kicks though.

sorry kamil, it was a quick trip. got there on a sunday nite, filmed monday morning/afternoon, and flew back monday evening. my schedule is tight, that's all i could afford. even so, while i was there i was treated very well and spared no expense.

LOL, I own one of these sacks.

I had it long before I got into footbag.. Then when I found out about footbag I used it until i got a real bag.

They are Aweful, they are not round and have sponge and beans inside.

would you say that this Kellogs bag you found before you found Footbag ultimately had anything to do with you becoming engrossed in the world of footbag?

If so, I love Kellogs bags!! Recruiting one new Footbagger makes thier whole campaign
