Yo Sam.. Wait, you're in my blog.. You can't say "the word" in here! Dave, for the record, I said "the word" before Sam did so I have dibs. When it's a little warmer out, come shred with me.. That'd be keen.
Annnnyhowwwwwwwww.........
Turns out that my melo-drama was overstated.. either that or Brian was just really unclear.. It turns out he's just taking a couple weeks off to get his legs back under him and to do some cross training.. He was just feeling a little burnt out (it happens to us all). So that's good. I've only temporarily lost him!
Session notes:
Played solo tonight at the YMCA. Just drilled and tried to put into effect some things from the Trick Tips section >> I find at least one thing there that is useful every session. Pretty cool. Tonight it was a comment by Jorden about using your hips to generate energy for certain dexes. I still need to get full clarification on what he means, but something clicked in my mind and my stepping set has never been as good as it was tonight. I had some fun runs. My consistency is going way up. Tonight was the first time where I thought that my skill level might be getting close to where it was before.

Started my new job last Thursday and haven't had a laptop since then so I've been much less likely to post. Coming into my attic office just ain't the same as sitting downstairs after a long day.
Anyhow, the job is good so far. Nice people. I think I'll learn a lot and I think I'll be very good at the position. So that's cool. And my office is nice - well furnished (niiice solid wood desk) and good proximity to all needed things etc. They even gave me a parking space right by the front door. Tee hee.. I shouldn't be so happy about that, but I am, so there.
Session notes:
This is from Friday night.. I was solo because Brian is still taking time off. I played at the YMCA after work which was really tough because I was so mentally drained. But I put in a good 45 minutes or so and just practiced things. I was in no mood for frustration, so I just reinforced good habits.
Sat and Sunday I worked on the fence project HARD CORE. The blister on my left hand is so out of control. But I got so far on the project. My yard will be amazing. TV on the porch was finally connected too, so I watched Final 4 NCAA basketball with a cold one with a nice breeze flowing by on Sat night. cool shit.

I love stories of domesticated Bob. Haha. I'm glad the job seems like it will work out well. It would suck to work with new, lame people. Haha. Keep shredding Bro.
By the way, I will have May 4th-18th to do absolutely nothing. I may take a little less vacation than that if money is tight. Anyway, expect to roll out the cott sometime around then buddy. Whenever works for you. I'm coming to visit!!!! And I want that fence finished by the time I get there. I demand good scenery. Haha. I can't wait.

Brian is back! Some break?!?!?!
Anyways, I'm glad. He was in a better mood now that he finally modded his new lavers and was playing better. I was on FIRE tonight. No big tricks really, just lots of variety. Lately consistency is way up and I'm having a blast. I played solo for an hour and with Brian for another hour. Runs were opening like this (or similar): weak pixie legover > pixie btfly > spinning clipper > ducking clipper > drifter... Fun. Oh, and hit dragonflyer > diving clipper mid-run. It's been awhile since I did that. Brian said he thinks I'm playing better now than when he used to know me a couple years ago.

was so tired after work today.. for one thing, one of my employees emailed a nasty email to a big sales manager, so I had to run interference and fix it despite today being my 6th day with the company. it worked out, but it drained me. So anyhow, I played solo for 45 minutes tonight. Was pretty lame for the most part but not a negative practice at all. Just getting a work out really. Sometimes that's all it is. A more fun way to get a work out (can you imagine having to run on a treadmill???)

Well, I've been at my new job for less than 2 full weeks and I'm already rocking the boat. Our HR lady is suuuuuch a bitch. Sorry for the language, but there's no substitute word that will aptly replace this one. She has every single non-management employee in the company punching a time clock each day. There are people from the warehouse workers to people with their master's degrees punching a clock. To me, the best way to remove "clock watchers" from an organization is to remove the clock. In general, I can't stand time clocks and do not want my employees to have to use a time clock.
I asked her why this is - I said generally the "professionals" (non hourly degreed folk usually.. that's just a stereotype, but you know what I mean) do not punch clocks from what I've seen at several other organizations. In response, she gave me the Department of Labor paperwork - she thought this would shut me up.
Well, instead, I read the whole thing and highlighted all the pertinent sections. It turns out that I'm right - an employee can be classified as "exempt" (no time clock punching) as long as they work an non-manual office type of job, have some decision making capabilities, and earn at least $13K annually. Each of my team members meet these requirements.
Despite my clear points that I'm correct, she got in a huff and refused to give ground. It was pretty much a fight. I left saying "I'm too busy to spend more time on this now.. I will get my own research and present it to managers for their thoughts". Ha ha ha
session notes
After all that was sort of worn out. But I played solo after some situps and pushups. Same old stuff. Mostly concentrating on using my hips and on the concept of keeping my dexes tight (for example, drifter can be a small tight move instead of a big looping move.. I've always been big and looping.. now I'm trying to be more efficient). Got some Budweiser Select on the way home and am going to go watch TV on the porch with a cold one now.

job continues to be what it is.. stress city. but it will get better once I know what the hell I'm doing. just hanging with the namesake as needed after work. that seems to help. helps the shred too.
session notes:
Played Tuesday night with Brian. It was our first outdoor sesh of the year, and my first in two years or so. Was amazing. I shredded the best I've ever shredded. To the standards of all you crazy 6-add-hitting jerks out there it tweren't so great, but to me twas awesome. I can hit gyro stuff again!!! yay. My runs are nice and long by my standards (like 15 tricks of genuine or 25 or so if I allow bops in there). Hitting really fun links with double dexes and both sides in there. The best thing is that the folks at the YMCA seem to be digging it >> they stop and watch and ooh and ahh. Fun.

My boss is gone this week so I'm having a chance to learn my way instead of his way. His way is to throw me into the fire and just kill me with information. My way is to kinda go in the fire, ask tons of questions on the way in, then back away and digest/figure it out for a little bit. I learned more in the past two days than the previous two weeks. And I'm less stressed. Which was good for kicking...
session notes:
yo nasty.. is that your pic I saw as a modified banner? you're mmmaaaaddddd skinnny! I mean you were always nasty, but damn. I guess I haven't seen you in awhile! props
Well, last week was cool, but I didn't play Friday like I wanted to (f-ing Brian is killing me with his not-playing ways). Oh well. It is what it is. I worked my ass off all weekend on my yard and my barn. My barn is going to be so cool. But that's another story. The point is that my body should be tired.
But, instead, I shredded sooo good and had soooo much fun. Last week was 15 contacts genuine, 25 with bops. This week it was more like 20 and 30. On just about every turn! And the shorter runs were slick by my standards.. Like paradon > blur > paradon > ducking legover > pixie legover > smear > pixie butfly > spinning blah blah blah.. Still cool right? I thought so. I seem to have figured out that "let's start a second run even though I'm already in a run or even though I just barely saved it" thing. Like in the past the run would end.. But instead I start another run and just keep going.

Well, the fence project ended this week. I fenced the yard, ripped out a cement walkway, installed a stone walkway, built steps up an embankment, built and installed gates, planted grass, trucked in topsoil to backfill one area, installed lattice under porch, installed TV on porch.
So yeah, the "fence" project is over! my body can finally heal!
Keegan is 7 months and a week old now. He's the absolute man. He's crawling like this: up into pushup position > knees bent/crawling position > lunge forward onto face > laugh > repeat
session notes:
continued to love footbag today. long strings. I think I may have figured out whirling motion after all these years by watching charlie last week. We'll see about that. We've thought that before. I *did* figure out atomic. Still need to perfect, but the feeling is there and it's repeatable. It's about the hips. You think you're using your hips, and then one day you're like "ooooooooooh... so THAT'S what they mean about using your hips".. That was today for me.

The Madness
Sorry haven't written for awhile.. Been busy. Yard is looking good. Had my first fire in the fire pit that I built. Also de-mucked the spring and it has dried out the yard a lot. Job is getting a little better >> starting to understand things much more now so that helps.
Session notes:
Played last Tuesday, Friday, and again Tuesday.. Plan to play Friday as well this week. Brian is out of his funk and is playing well. He's starting to realize that since he never misses certain tricks, he might as well string them in mid run. It's a good leap for him and will make his game a lot better. Me? Can do atomic mid run now. Not perfectly every time, but it's improving rapidly. My nuts and bolts (pixing, spinning, ducking) are raelly going well though some pixie drills (since I've only been shredding, not practicing) would be beneficial. Nothing major right now. Oh, footed pixie drifter. Gyro DLO off my foot a bunch.

edit: oh yeah, and don't forget it's mother's day this weekend. This is Megan's first mother's day as a mom so that's really cool. I got her the best card from Keegan - it's honestly like they studied our life and made a card about it. Then, I got her a card from me too and wrote a really nice message in it. Sunday morning I'll pick up fresh flowers and make her a nice breakfast and get up with Keegan so she can sleep in for a change. And finally, I got her a gift certificate that will either pay for her to have her nose pierced or to get our son's initials as a tattoo (we've talked about both, so I'll just let her pick which she wants now vs. later).
session notes:
Charlie played with us tonight. A, he's in the best shape of just about anyone I've ever seen. B, it's just nuts how sick he is even though he only plays like 10 times per year. Blurry paradon, blurry whirl, a bunch of atomic stuff, stepping stuff, ripped warrior, ducking and diving. Not bad at all. Brian played OK. Me too. It's tough for us older guys to shred Friday night after a long week. Ha ha.. Old guys. I need to take a practice day instead of a shred day.. some of my consistency was off the last two sessions. Mostly concentration and energy issues. Might be better to only play once per week for awhile again. At least until all my projects are done (in 2020!!)

Well, Keegan can crawl now. It's amazing to watch him go. He'll be 8 months old by the end of the weekend. And that's just crazy. 8 months already. When they say "It goes by so fast" they are NOT kidding. Hate to sound like an old fuddy, but it's the truth. All you parents out there can shout a big Amen to that I'll bet. Anyhow, he's cool. Tries to stand up too, but that usually ends in a fall. Ha ha.
I've got 3 cords of wood arriving tomorrow. I spent the week building racks to store it in. I guess I know what I'll be doing for exercise this weekend (stacking wood).
In any case, I haven't played footbag this week. Needed a week off. I've been pushing so hard on so many projects and my body was killing me. But I told Brian I'd play tonight if it stayed sunny (for once! it's been raining like Seattle over here!). And it's sunny. So we'll see.
Side note, how bad does it suck to modify Lavers? I hate it. I just got a new pair because I was down to sock on my other pair. I had blue ones (shoes that is) and now I have white ones (shoes that is). I did such a good job modifying them for a change.. No major misses. Until the end. Then I damn near cut the toe box to tongue connection clean off. Ooops. That'll be annoying, but as with all Lavers, it will be OK in the end and they'll be just fine.
