April Fool's Day Shred: Houston, TX

Post by Iron Clad Ben »

:D HOWDY PARTNERS! :D

Here's the video from our April Fool's day shred this past Saturday in Houston, Texas. We had shredders from all over the greater Houston area, plus Jesse and I from Austin and Cameron from Cali.

Since we were kicking and it was a Jam the song "Kick Out the Jams" is cheesily appropriate. Mad thanks to Jesse for filming and editing this thing and everyone who came out and shredded with us! It was such a great day, we weren't really focused on getting huge runs on camera as we were just shredding, so this is by no means everyone's best stuff. Overall the event was a big success. Keep your eye out for more TEXAS events later on this year!

On a side note, the video is Quicktime format and some people (for instance my mom) may have trouble viewing it. If so, let us know and we'll see if we can help you out.

Yeah there wasn't much footage for a 6-hour session, but we managed to get some decent runs and combos on video. We were all so busy playing.. It was great to meet and kick with a lot of players from outside of Houston. I'm glad that we got everyone there into the video. It was a fantabulously badass shred. Everyone shredded hard, played well, and had a great time.

I always like id's in the videos [esp if no one knows them]. In case you guys were wondering:
I'm in the white shirt, blue shorts, shaved head.
Curtis Taylor [from Seabrook] is in the green shirt and dark shorts.
Paul Castro [Houston] is in the black shirt / black shorts.
Mike Sprung [Houston] is in white shirt / blue shorts / red visor
Ben Benulis [Austin] was in red shorts / no shirt
Cameron Kennedy [Oakland] was wearing green shorts and had the long hair and beard
Heather Thomas [Houston] .. well she was the only chick shredding
Jesse Lindley [Austin] was wearing all white and glasses
Ryan Thomas [Tyler] had the orange shirt, black shorts, shaved head
Matt [Cypress] was in long shorts and Converses.
Thomas Cleveland [Cypress] had the tye-dye-lookin shirt and the long blondish hair

Isn't the soundtrack by Mr. Plow? [a Houston band] That was Jesse at the end with the huge "Power Size" Jamba Juice. Thanks, Jesse, for the video.

It was gonna be Mr. Plow, but this song (by Monster Magnet, I think) fit the time better, so we went with it. And you're welcome!

I thought Thomas' style was a lot like old school Windsor (probably influenced by attire and build)! I also recognized Cameron's style from his first appearance with the whirls (I was going to say his style is so much like Cameron Kennedy's) -- but then he had the run with blurry and stepping whirl and I realized it actually was him, and then I saw his name in the thread. It was nice seeing some new players too! I don't know if I've seen much Houston footage ever.
