new break in technique--Frozen footbag!

I tried this technique on my abshire, it came out 100% unscathed, I FROZE my abshire!

and it came out a bit softer.

I did this by first washing my abshire with soap really thoroughly, and then rinsing it out, towel dried it, and hand massaged it to make it only slightly moist, then! Freezer time for like 15 minutes until the panels felt like they were really starchy, and I popped my bag out of the freezer and started hand massaging again, my abshire seems more broken in than the usual hand massaging so my verdict is that this actually worked!

though I recomend using it on thicker colors just to be safe

kinda off topic, but you can freeze skateboard wheels, and its said by a few pros that it makes em last longer...

i wonder if its really okay for the footbag, or if it would damage it.... im no scientist, so ill freeze a bag on the next wash. trial and error! maybe ill do it on a bag i make....

I don't think it should have a damaging effect on it. Coldness doesn't tend to damage facile like inense heat would. i've never heard of this method before. Maybe ill try it next time i was my bags

i just did it again the second time around, this time with more water, and to be careful not to break the thread i soaked it in warm water and now my abshire is nearly fully broken in after only a week with my new technique, (and non damaged) BOOYAH! fo shizzle my dizzle.....

I'm no scientist but if this does work, I guess it would be because when you freeze water it expands? So the water in the facile will expand and streach the stitching out perhaps similar to what finger rolling would do?

Anyway, let us know if you get any detremental effects from this, like if stitches start breaking in a few weeks or you get holes after only a few months

I've frozen the bag in the picture over 5 times and it has broken the bag in a quite a bit.

I don't think this is a substitute for finger rolling or kicking, but you could probably break in a bag all the way without getting it dirty if you froze it and finger rolled it lots.

I would think that method damages the facile and thread a lot? You should see how long does it last now.

toby i think you overdid it way too much!

i dont know about you but i once froze a bag abit, so it was just getting stiff, then took it out, finger rolled and it was broken in. also, take your bags into your swimmpants when you go too a pool. i do it alot(mostly because i´m too stupid too take the bags out oif my pocket) and then swimm around for like 1 hour. then wash the bag, so the chlorine is out and let it dry, fabric softener and bam, new shred bag!

haha, toby, that's my new desktop picture.

I froze my footbag, #22. I didn't submerge it like toby, I soaked it, put it in a plastic bag, and put it in the freezer. I took it out in a few hours, thawed it, and put it back in, then took it out the next morning. It feels quite a bit more broken in. Now I'm going to see if the bag develops holes quickly. I think freezing helped break in the footbag.

Mr. Sandbags don't really need all that much breaking in, do they?

I've played with a brand new one and it worked basically as well as a previously shredded one.

How wierd !

1998 just called, they want their idea back. I tried the N2(l) and ethanol break in before and it didn't seem to really do that much.

hey, i've had another idea, what if i rubbed the bag with lotion (lots of it) and then froze that, the lotion would penetrate the bag and moisturize it, removing unsightly lines!

I just finished making my first 32 and kicked it around for a bit, then washed it with warm water and shampoo, then used a paper towel to absorb some of the moisture, then wrapped it in a dryer sheet (Bounce) and made sure to massage the softener in good. then i removed the dryer sheet wrapping and hand massaged it to get the gunk (waxy feeling) off the facile.

it still is very moist, so i tossed it in the freezer thanks to this thread!! i will update with results.

you may want to wash it in cool water because its better for the bag. The heat is bag for the facile and stitching.

I tried this technique on a couple of my bags tonight. they are both still slightly moist and i've been massaging them since they got out of the freezer. They definitley feel a little more broken in then before hand.
