Am I doing something wrong, moving too much, setting too high, whatever? This is my first video, so go easy on me. ;) But don't hold back the constructive criticism!
Props on the pixie same clipper :)

Your clippers look OK dude, you're correct in thinking they're not quite right, but there doesn't seem anything glaringly bad in your form that normal practice won't iron out (like for instance not bending your support leg enough or having your clipper too far away from your body - which might take a bit longer to work on). With the first couple I think you're landing a little too early, you should land basically the same time the bag lands on your foot. They look like they will get smoother and more consistent with time so that's always good - and you're already making really good progress.

A new bag will do you wonders too, especially if you're still kicking with a metal BB bag (not to knock your bags, heh, but sandmans are really good).

Oh yeah, just as a note, clippers can't actually be 'the'. The term 'the' is just for dexes where the bag doesn't actually complete a proper dex (like if you pull through a stepping set or if on a datw if your leg is making the dexing motion above where the bag is without actually going around).

Time off to heal...

Post by millenniumtree »

Well, I'm taking off as much time as it takes to let my left achilles tendon heal. All the bouncing & hopping I've been doing must have really stressed it, and every time I play for 2-5 minutes, my tendon starts hurting again. I took a day and a half off, but after 10 minutes of footbagging today, it hurts a lot again...

Time to take as much time as it needs to heal... I'm thinking weeks, but it may take a month or more. :(

I don't wanna say this, but I probably won't be back shredding for a few weeks. :(

My wife has achilles tendonitis, and I know any pain in your tendons can eventually become tendonitis if you don't give it time to heal. I do NOT want this to develop any further, so I'm forced to take the time off. *sigh*

Ok, I couldn't last even a week. 4.5 days and I'm back playing again. :P I'll try to be gentle with it though. I'll lay off the clipper set butterflies for now because those seem to cause the most damage. I'll just have to work my way up to them again.

I've put some big thick insoles in my shoes, and they really cushion the heel impact... I'll try to perfect my soft landings too, as it not only looks nice when someone plays 'soft', but it really reduces the damage done to knees and ankles. I'll also try to play on softer surfaces. Blacktop before concrete, dirt before blacktop, and short carpet over anything else.

Additionally, I'm planning some tendon-strengthening exercises. I'm starting 10 years late in this game, so I can't waste time with injuries, better to prevent them before they occur.

Ok, I've since made a bunch of 6 panel bags, and given them to friends.

I'm up to 12 alternating op clippers!!
Plus, I've hit:
Illusion, Mirage, and Infinity!

Here's the bad news though... I'm having terrible chest pains, usually when I take a really deep breath, or move my right arm in a certain way. It feels like the pain is coming from between two ribs, and not deep enough to be my lung...

A friend of mine said it may be that a rib shifted, and is pinching a nerve. Whatever it is, it hurts like f*%k, and I'm going to the doctor hopefully on Monday. :( Thank god for health insurance (which we finally have, after years without)

Woah, haven't posted in a while.

The chest pain was costochondritis (inflammation of the tissue between a rib and the breastbone) I got some anti-inflammatories for it, and it's doing much better. I still don't know what caused it though.

anyway... I hit paradox mirage strongside, and I'm trying to do some ducking moves... I can't land them yet though.

I'm also practicing my clipper > same clipper moves because I want to start doing swirls and whirls.

I'm still not great at my other moves, so I'm constantly practicing all of them. Everything from ATWs, to leg overs, to mirages, and infinities.

The other day I surprised myself because I did 20 minutes or so of clipper > same clippers, with tons of hopping up and down on one leg, and my legs weren't tired afterward!!! Crazy!!

Bubba,
Pixie Butterfly Kick! I couldn't stall it, but I managed to kick it up at the end. It's my first double dex! Now if only I could get the stall! :P

I'm skooling pixies real hard. Last night, I stood for like 10 minutes just doing the flipside in>out ATW motion, trying to get a nice tight and round circle. Now my legs are sore this morning. :D

Today I hit Drifter strong side, not once, but twice!!!
I couldn't link it at the end, but it popped up nicely.

I also got a nice pixie butterfly. it wasn't a totally clean stall, but it was definitely not a kick!

In addition to the craziness above, I've started doing consecutive mirages without pausing on the stalls. It feels pretty good.

What doesn't feel good is that I'm feeling very anemic lately. After about 45 minutes of shredding, I had to stop. I think I didn't eat enough today, plus I'm low on iron and B12. :P I was breathing pretty hard, sweating like a mad fool, and just had to stop.

*best James Brown*
dum, dum, dum, I'M BACK!, dum, dum, dum, I'M BACK!

6 months to the day since my last blog post.

I'm back on, and stronger than ever.
I damn well took the whole damn winter off, dammit.

Yesterday I hit 2 pixie clipper kicks, and a pixie symposium clipper kick... I nearly sealed a drifter, and I hit osis > ss osis as well as osis > op osis, and I'm stringing the bastards! WOO!!

So....

These past couple of weeks, we moved into a new apartment, with our own 1 stall garage (shred room). I now have 6 different places I could shred. (7 if you count the basketball court down the street)

I made a new 6 panel bag a couple days ago, and it works very well. Still a little roly, but It'll break in, I'm sure.

I'll tell you, I have missed this. My legs are like iron, and I love it.

Welcome back!!

I wondered where you had gone.

Would you be able to re-host your 4-panel templates? They were the best ones online.

In fact, they got me started stitching shreddable bags and now Ive gotten to the point where I am making and selling 32's! whee!

Good to hear you are still stitching, what pattern are you using for your 6 panels?

New car, not much footbag. :P

Post by millenniumtree »

I haven't played very much lately... The other day I did a lot, mainly trying to hit butterflies out of osis, and osis to op osis... I got one strongside osis > butterfly, but not the other side yet. Also I got an osis > op osis but couldn't link it.

Besides that, I just bought a brand new car! My first ever! It's totally scary. With the car and my student loans, I'm 52 grand in debt. :O

But it also feels f*ckin' awesome. I love the new car. It's SO nice.

Anyway. I plan on getting my linkings down. I'm going to go for some uber runs now, like 5 and 10 contact uniques. :D Throw some osis in with butterflies, infinities, etc... I can hit everything I need for an 8 contact pretty easily, but have never been good at linking any of them. I should be drilling these in the next couple of weeks.

I'll see everybody around, and if I get lazy, poke me with a stick or something. I don't want to give this shit up!! I love footbag, but sometimes I'm just not motivated enough to get out the bag and shred my ass off.

Back from the shred.

Post by millenniumtree »

Woo!

I couldn't find my footbag for a few weeks, but I was missing it so bad and wanted to get back into shredding so badly today, that I whipped up a new one. I had a few old footbag shells laying around in my sewing box so I dropped some pellets and BBs into one of 'em, stitched the bastard up, and off I went.

I need some outside motivation, so everybody, keep on bugging me!! I'm 'cppislife' on AIM. I need all the motivation I can get.

I guess I shredded for about 45 minutes today... Better than nothing, but it left me pretty beat. I had to take a break too. I haven't played at all in months so I started out all uncoordinated. I soon got a rhythm going though and the 2nd mini-session, I managed to link some butterflies, lots of toes and clippers, and an infinity!

I know, I know. I suck.

I could probably hit other stuff, but I'm so weak right now I don't even want to try. I've always been rather poor at linking, so linking anything (even toes and butterflies) is a step forward for me.

After today's session though, the arches in my feet are quite painful. I think the few whirls and shit I tried today really messed my feet up. That just shows you how slack I've gotten. I don't want to try anything too stompy for a while, so I'll stick to the basics like mirages, toes, clippers... at least until I'm back in shape.

Haha. In my last post, we had just bought a car... Well this post is a little bigger... We bought a HOUSE. Now I'm about $200,000 in debt. YAY!!

Feet not hurting much anymore, but my legs are quite sore.

I'm going canoeing today to get some upper-body work, but the legs will be on vacation until at least Sunday.

I'm glad you're getting back into it!!

Sometimes a good long break can be a really good thing, but I know it can hard to get back into it after a break.

Props, and keep on shredding!

OW!!!!

I slaughtered my legs a couple days ago shredding, today I did in the top half.

I went canoeing. *talking to self* Now Steve, how can a sport that generally consists of a leisurely float down a calm river leave you practically incapacitated?

How about trying to control a 15.5 foot canoe, by yourself, for 5 hours (6.5 miles total) with spotty rain and a stiff headwind?

My stomach is sore, my arms are sunburnt and completely useless. I'm even having trouble typing because my finger muscles are shot.

Next time, I'm building a sail for the bastard. It would have made the trip home MUCH easier.

Yesterday, I hit my first ever DOUBLE DEX! Pixie Butterfly. I was pretty tired after a good 45 minutes of shredding, so I didn't get a second one in.

I've been in denver for the past couple days, and hopefully I'm meeting up with Stephen Barnes one of these days. I'll have to give him a call today to see where he is.

I finally feel like I'm progressing again in this sport, after a long stagnation.

Anyway, back to job training, gotta run.

Yesterday, I hit not one, but 4 (3 strong, 1 flip) Pixie Legovers!! My 2nd double-dex!

I've also been drilling ducks, and hope to hit a clip > duck > butterfly soon.

I realized today that my Pixie Butterfly is a Dimwalk! It's my first walk! WOO!! I didn't plant though, so it wasn't ideal.

This week, I've had nothing to do at night besides watch TV and footbag. It's hurting me pretty bad. I played for over an hour straight a couple days ago, then tried to play (15 minutes?) yesterday and I'm now in so much pain I need some pain killers. The arches of my feet (muscles) and my adductors (fore-thighs) are pretty sore, and I walked to work this morning with a limp. :P

Gonna get some durgzzzz tonight (ibuprofen most likely) so maybe I can play with Steve Barnes tonight and not feel too bad.
